Absolutely awesome demo.
Maybe the last demo I really opened my ears to.
As in, got it, popped it in my tape deck and went, “Woah.”
Mental’s 2nd demo grabbed me in a lot of ways. First, because it was really good. Some tall dude (good dude) gave me a cassette with no cover out of his backpack at the Berwick in Boston and told me to check it out. Usually that ends in “ew” but it ended up in “woah” (as previously mentioned.) Second because it was “long” – as in it had more than 4-5 songs. It was 8 songs of fast, unabashed straight up hardcore with a stiff NYHC influence that was decidedly not attached to being overly hard, posturing, or serious. But let me clarify on serious – it wasn’t a joke. The lyrics didn’t have to be poetry or apocalyptic to have some meaning.
HUGE thanks and praise to Six Feet Under for melding this to slab, definitely too good to just exist as floating emps or on washaway cassettes. Test press out of eight? Don’t mind if you do. Get it.
