I love the Bad Brains. Chances are if you are reading this, you do too. I try not to think about people who don’t like the Bad Brains, let alone talk to them. (Exceptions to this rule exist, Dave.)
But for the most part, everyone loves the Roir Sessions. Rock For Light. Most can hang with the older material that surfaced later (Black Dots, Omega Sessions, various other recordings…) and a lot of people LOVE I Against I. I love all of it. Love the evolution of the sound. I think the live recordings are the only necessary live hardcore/punk recordings this side of Who’s Got the 10 and 1/2 and Live At CBGB’s that have been given a proper release.
But I don’t love Quickness. I like it now. It took some time and age, but I’m into it. But then there’s this one. Maybe it should have a promo sticker that says “WARNING: NO H.R.”…
RISE. Actually, a pretty crisp looking copy of the LP above. Do you need to own that? Well, maybe you do. I don’t. I really, really don’t. I wish it didn’t exist. But if you need that, compliment it with this…
A 36 x 42 poster celebrating an album that almost brought me to tears when I first heard it. Not really tears. Now that I think about it, it was anger. I couldn’t believe it was real. Now I can see the visual appeal of the poster (I GUESS)… but does anyone want to go for the trifecta?
I think this should be sent somewhere as visual evidence against the rest of the Bad Brains for crimes against auditory senses, as well as an absolute manslaughter against expectations.
Maybe I can help set people right. Here’s an image of what the actual greatest hardcore band should look like. Not what’s pictured above. And it’s a fancy, limited collectible by some Shepard Fairey guy.

I have that Shep Fairy print hanging in my livingroom!!
rise does suck but I bet build a nation would have been a decent record if Israel sang on it. musically it’s not that bad but they could barely get HR to record anything.
I got into the BB later than I should have because of RIse. It was the firs BB record I heard. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why people revered this band so much. Ha. This was back when I had a pt time job and buying a cd was kind of a major investment. I couldn’t take the chance
in closing – fuck rise!
when i was in in wftf sean would try and tell me that Rise was a good record. as much as quickness has grown on me, i will never be into Rise.
in a live setting though, i would love to see them with israel these days. watching HR stand there kills the vibe for me. look how fun this 2008 show in chile looks: http://youtu.be/kLZGMjeEuiY
as opposed to this one from the same year with HR: http://youtu.be/eSVqC9cH6fM
