Faster Pussycat Kill Kill!

I can admit that I have a couple of hair metal records in my vinyl collection, probably the worst of which is a green vinyl 12″ of Poison doing their cover of ‘Your Mama Dont Dance’ which is awful! There are a few other records of this genre that I wouldnt mind adding to my collection, like the first Winger album, Guns & Roses ‘Appetite For Destruction’ with the original cover art, Guns & Roses ‘Live like a Suicide’ and this gem from farzin.

I was never super into hairmetal, but I figure if you’re gonna listen to one of those bands it may as well be as over the top as it can be and I think Faster Pussycat does that pretty well! I actually saw them open for Motley Crue on the Doctor Feelgood tour and they were decent and pretty glammed up, but then I saw them again on one of the 80′s metal package tours and they had some crazy goth/nazi ss them going on.

So here is a copy of the first Faster Pussycat record signed by the whole band and the opening bid actually isnt to bad. I’ll admit that I most likely wont, but I am considering bidding on it!

Necessary NJHC Demos

Nothing makes more sense than the grimy, dirty, crude, tongue in cheek vibe that the mid to late 80′s New Jersey punk / hardcore / thrash metal scene gave off.

The armpit of the country. The wastelands. Though it is officially known as “the Garden State”, I don’t think any apathetic punkers from the state would tell you about how nice it is once you get off the turnpike. They reveled in it. Amongst a strange mix of compact discs, locanda2 has two absolute gem cassettes that embody that spirit.

Lethal Aggression’s “From the Cunt of The Fucking Whore” demo is legendary. A great mix of metal thrashing, garbage production, and speed (speaking both of the music and illegal substance, most likely…) there is no better release from this scene. Whoever booked them to tour Europe with Youth of Today had quite a sense of humor. I’ve heard legends from both sides of them being “excused” from finishing the tour due to some conflict with their tourmates. Like prodigal sons, Lethal Aggression returned to the jersey shore and will still occasionally pop up to mixed reviews. I did get to see them play a backyard in Toms River, NJ once – they did an acapella cover of “Sock Woman” by Mental Abuse and I was amazed to see the majority of people in attendance (imagine a very normal backyard bbq) singing along to every word.

Negative Youth “Life is like a Drunken Orgy in Hell!” Demo. A far less “successful” band than Lethal, Negative Youth was considerably less thrashy, but no less tongue in cheek. Consider this – the band eventually evolved into a band named… Sadistic Sex. Consider your demo collection incomplete if you don’t have both of these.

Stone Cold Classic

Before 1985, California punk and hardcore was massive.

But after… California makes a sharp decline.

Not a diss at all, but let’s be real. Look at the bands and music California was churning out before 1985. So, to say it slowed down considerably is fair. But if they only had one record to contribute to hardcore punk… California would’ve done it right by choosing this one.

Almost nothing looks cooler than Wishingwell Records on color vinyl. From the looks of it, the seller is a so cal lifer with some other big time stuff for sale, so definitely check the other items. It feels right buying a U.C. LP on color and having it mailed to you from Orange County, CA… even in 2010.

D.R.I., Youth of Today, Lemonheads…

One of these things is not like the others…

Let’s get things straight. Youth of Today is awesome. For some reason it’s out of vogue to be into YoT, but it seems like that “goes around” and then “comes back around.” For my money, there’s nothing like the feelings I had throwing We’re Not In This Alone on when I was 17. As I get older I don’t necessarily need a short dude (no diss, I’m no Randy Newman!) telling me how to live my life. I know what I’m shooting for, yada yada yada.

But you know what never gets old? D.R.I.

One time I saw D.R.I. in New York on a Tuesday night… they went on sometime after 1 and finished up sometime after 2:15. It was great. Thankfully my boss was also a fan.

This is one of the best issues of Suburban Voice in my opinion, and one of the handful I proudly own. Until I sell my zines, which have all been sealed up for some time now, but I think this issue will survive the purge. Scoop this up and learn a thing or two. Some things aren’t online yet…
