I remember when this came out, every Straight Edge kid I knew was psyched on it. A book about Straight Edge? Interviewing almost every Straight Edge notable under the sun, including MIKE JUDGE~!? It had no choice to be awesome. And while it didn’t quite live up to what it was built up as, and the amount of excuses for stopping being Straight Edge gets old fast (can’t anyone just say they just didn’t believe in it anymore without adding 3 paragraphs worth of bullshit about how they needed to experience new things and expand their mind?), but you still can’t go wrong with the collection of interviews and images contained within. That said, did anyone ever really care what the soda girl from the Anthrax thought about Straight Edge? Yeah, the book needed some female perspective, but having an “I wasn’t Straight Edge because it was a boys club” interview always read like lip service to the pc 90s to me. And boy did I hate the Drew Beat and Arthur interviews…

“(I’m) doing three of my favorite things: conversing, drinking coffee, and smoking cigarettes- three of my favorite, favorite things, things that make my life blessed.”

Gag.

Now, nothing against Arthur personally; I’m sure he’s a swell dude, but really? You really kicked off your your interview for a book about Straight Edge by talking about how smoking cigarettes helps make your life awesome? That always struck me as a dick move, but then again, he didn’t talk about Straight Edge at all in his interview anyways… but I digress.

Long story short: good book, decent read (tho at this point, a lot of the interviews might be redundant due to the number of easily found interviews some of the participants have done since; in 1997 a book with a Mike Judge interview was a big deal, now you can just go to Double Cross or lurk him on Facebook), you should grab it; if not from this BIN but from Rev themselves.
