There’s a black hole in the shadow

Hey did you guys hear about the American Nightmare reunion shows? I think they are coming up soon. There will be one on the east coast and one on the west coast. Not sure about the rest of the details. Stay posted.

Oh what has Wes been up to? Just this other band Cold Cave. Here is a rare first pressing of their, limited to 500, 12″ called “The Trees Grew Emotions and Died” (via thewindisntdepressed)

American Nightmare Reunion LPs

905driving-force is from Ontario. Do you think he drove home after the reunion gig and IMMEDIATELY posted up these two auctions? Or do you think he’s staying at a friends house locally, and posted the records from their house? Ridic.

American Nightmare Background Music. Red vinyl. Buy it here.

Give Up The Ghost Down Till We’re Underground. Purple vinyl. Buy it here.

Literary Noize: Deathbeds.

A little late Saturday Literary Noize for you from my pals kidcrash123 and sugarhiccups. First off is a copy of Wes Eisold’s book Deathbeds, so if you didn’t blow all your money on travel arrangements for the AN reunions, you could maybe take a swing at this. Maybe an Xmas present for that AN fan who couldn’t get a ticket?

The copy of issue 3 of the 1980 paper Boston Rock meanwhile is surely less of a big ticket item, but I think it’s well worth a look for the GG Allin quarter page ad alone…

Its sometimes like it will never end…

It was recently announced that some dodgy record label is soon to be reissuing both the American Nightmare LPs. So now could be the right time to grab the originals before the reissues cause the prices to shoot through the roof. Or possibly drop through the floor. You can never predict which way it will go when the reissues hit the streets. in_vinyl_we_trust is giving you a chance to bag a purple vinyl copy of this album, which is one of the rarer colors this record came on.

Here’s a weird fact – I think I was the first person in the whole world to order this when it came out. I called up Equal Vision because I knew this was coming out, and the dude on the phone told me they weren’t taking any orders for another week. But somehow I managed to talk him into taking my order there and then. Dunno what I said exactly, but I managed to get in an order for three copies and I got sent one on red, one on purple, and one on pink. I was happy enough at the time, although the way the world was back then it didn’t feel like a major feat. But a couple of years later some dude I met was talking to me about this LP and telling me that apparently there was some kind of uproar when it came out in certain circles. Apparently loads of people who ordered it were not happy that they received the more common clear vinyl version, more so because it seemed that nobody got the funky candy colors. I never knew anything about this. Did it really happen, or was it just a total exaggeration? Anyone?

Did you hear about the American Nightmare shows?

Well, did you hear about the American Nightmare / GUTG reunions shows? I am sure you did. It’s been all over the news. Along with that, we announced that we were reissuing both AN LPs, or Give Up The Ghost LPs, Background Music, and We’re Down Til We’re Underground on sweet sweet vinyl. So that’s awesome! But probably not so awesome if you’re trying to unload your original copies of these LPs. A lot of your target audience figures that they can just get the new version, and not pay collector prices.

So meganmackers has the original American Nightmare “Background Music” on black with the purple cross. The BIN is a little high, but she’s taking offers. So go for it. Sometimes with reissues, it brings more attention to the originals… so you never know.

And recordgraveyard has the 2nd press, out of only 500 on black vinyl.

Too Hectic

Yeah I know, you hate ska. Nobody likes ska anymore. But this is different, this is Operation Ivy. Death Threat and American Nightmare both covered them so that gives you a pass. This record should be in the starter kit for every kid getting into punk/hardcore. I literally wore my copy out when was 14. Luckily it wasntt a sweet first pressing like new_math is selling. Its been pressed to death but the first press is easily distinguishable by its Laytonville address and the numbering on the back cover. All the early Lookout! releases were numbered on the back (Isocracy and Crimpshrine for example). Im not sure how many were pressed but I can tell you I own two copies, one numbered under 100 and one numbered in the 1900s so i think 2000 if a safe bet. Hedgecore!

American Nightmare Purple X LP

For many years I thought that the American Nightmare friends press LP was supposed to be a purple X across the black vinyl as some kind of straight edge symbol. What a dipshit. But what always surprised me more about this LP is that it seems commonly referred to as the ‘blood splatter’. I have seriously wondered why for a long time. I mean, did anyone ever see blood that was purple, or blood that randomly splattered into a nice neat X? No, of course not. This should just be referred to as the purple X edition if you ask me. Anyway, regardless of what you’re calling it, this is rare as hell and twice as popular. UK seller boroxrob is selling his to help push his business forward, and in the process helping you push your American Nightmare collection forward.

And if that’s not enough, dude also has the dark red color of the same LP up as well. This one is the one that really should be called ‘blood splatter’ as it is deep red and actually does look like blood. Sometimes I wonder whether this color IS the blood splatter and at some point years ago someone, somewhere got confused and referred to the purple X one as ‘blood splatter’ and the name just stuck. Seems kinda plausible to me. Anyone got any idea?

Lots of Lots.

Seller live_hard has taken the time saving tactic of putting many of his records into lots. This is also probably going to turn out to be a pretty good money maker for him as well, since plenty of these are records that do well on their own…

Apologies for my extended absence btw. I had a show to play and a wedding to attend this weekend, and I drafted a whole lot of posts in hopes of being ahead of the game. But alas, the seller (who will remain nameless) was actually IN said wedding, and didn’t have time to set up the auctions I had drafted on his advance notice. I’m sure they’ll be hitting soon enough. See you tomorrow for Test Press Tuesday.

Test Press Tre Is A Bad Friend.

There’s good and bad to be said for almost everybody in this world. Look at our beloved Tre. On the one hand, he can always be counted on to deliver the test press good when Test Press Tuesday and Thursday rolls around. Case in point: this week, he’s brought us an American Nightmare s/t test press:

The flip side of that coin however, is that Tre is also one of those bad friends who turns around and sells off his Friend Pressings with a weak “I hate to get rid of this” excuse. The AN s/t Friend’s Press even has his name on it… but you can just “cross that out”.

Test Press Tre = great dude. Friend Press Tre… not so much.

(In the interests of full disclosure, I may be just a little bit miffed at him right now for rejecting my advances towards the Last Rights Hitler sleeve from this morning. I CAN’T HELP BEING POOR, BUT YOU CAN HELP BEING A GREEDY FRIEND TRE!)

Background Music – Friends Only

Another one I never picked up .. this American Nightmare LP was for FRIENDS ONLY. It was limited to 100 and came with a great wax variation. Check that X. Fucking sharp. Kids were clobbering each other to get this one a few years back. I smell a resurgence in AN love so get ready to pay through the nose for this one. It comes all the way from our new and recent good friend, xclosedcasketx. If you are lucky, maybe he’ll pack in a few canoes and sticky buns from Xs To Os Bakery too!

If this one is too pricey, grab the lp on red instead.

More Demo-lition Monday!

Our day of Demo Noize destruction rolls on unimpeded, as seller evil74 brings us a colossal wrecking ball of demos. So many in fact that only do we have to split them amongst two posts, but that even then we still leave a bunch untouched in his other auctions!

American Nightmare S/T EP

Tre is back with more gems. This time around, he’s got almost the complete first press of the American Nightmare S/T EP for you. The only one missing is the friends press on clear (and the mosh camp sleeves, of course). Haven’t seen one of those on ebay in a bit though. You’ll probably have to keep waiting. Tre’s a good friend, I doubt he’d sell his. He also sums up this EP well, Classic. Period. Well said, well said.

(Where’s my crown!?!?!)

And how about a second press beauty? BTSJ. Moshing.

I smell a showdown with modbasher187. How dare he list the record Tre was listing? Seriously.

Get Well Soon.

As promised, here are some of our pal Tre’s auctions, and you can expect a lot more where these came from this week. It might even end up being almost exclusively Tre auctions this week, because this time he is selling his records for a noble cause, as opposed to his usual greed. His dog Alabama tore her ACL, and it’s going to cost 4grand to pay for it. Much as I like joking that Tre is rich, he ain’t that rich that this doesn’t require some fund raising on his part, and we’re happy to help out by spreading the word about his auctions. Plus I like Alabama better than I do Tre. We’ll start with this trio of AN rarities…

a few solid slabs of vinyl…

overduecollection has a bunch of lots posted up, but also has a few single LPs for sale. I picked out 3 that I think are cool. I know a lot of people hate on the ISHC record, but I enjoy it for what it is.

I personally really like the name Give Up The Ghost, but I know most people are much more partial to American Nightmare. We’re Down ‘Til We’re Underground LP, Equal Vision Records 2003 and limited to 1000 copies.

black vinyl on Epitaph. I was going to call this a ‘recent’ ALL record, but its already 13 years old! Man time flys!!

ISHC – blue/red mix. this color was a preorder only and was limited to 400 copies.

Good Night Vinyl Noize!

Ending the day the way I began it, with a big ol batch of auctions from str8t8:

Once again, you can’t go wrong with any of these. Though really, if you don’t own a copy of AOQ already… shame on you. Just shame.
