Slip a few more color reissues in

About 4 years ago or so I started collecting color vinyl Black Flag records. Part of the initial fun was trying to figure out which records existed on what colors. One by one I started picking them off. It reached a point where I thought I only had about three more to get. And then all of a sudden, a couple of weeks back, SST seemed to start cranking out some more color pressings. So far I have seen three colors of ‘In My Head’ and two colors of ‘Loose Nut’. And then a few minutes ago I was on eBay and stumbled across wearearecordstore selling another one. Fuck. Where is this going to end?

Black Flag Color Reissues

We all know that the Black Flag color vinyl LPs are reissues. Most of them were made in the early 90s, and as such most respectable (i.e. old) Black Flag fans & collectors aren’t interested. Dudes want first pressings. I can understand that. But at the same time, I myself collect the color records. I just think they’re more interesting. It’s also kinda fun given that there is no official record of what records were made on what colors. Here’s a couple of examples…

First up, sunra2000818 is offering ‘My War’ on blue with a $120 BIN. Seems kinda high, but it HAS sold for more in the past believe it or not. I got one of these from a friend a couple of years ago. Interestingly, he got it from Interpunk in the early 00s. This leads me to believe that this particular color was made in the early 00s. I mean, Interpunk didn’t exist in the early 90s so it can’t be left over from then. Also, this one has a barcode on the sleeve, whereas the red vinyl version does not, meaning that red is an earlier pressing. However, despite this one being more recent, it seems harder to find than the red, and I would not be surprised at all if someone picked this up for the required BIN price.

Next up, wearearecordstore brings us a copy of ‘In My Head’ on brown. This one comes with a BIN of $24.95. Seems like good value… until you realise that this has just been pressed a few weeks ago and SST are still selling them in their store for only $9.

By the way, I have a couple of spare color Flag records for sale or trade if anyone’s interested… ‘My War’ on red and ‘Who’s got the 10.5?’ on purple. And I need ‘In My Head’ on pink if anyone can help?

SOA – No Policy E.P. – 1st Press/Green Vinyl/No Black Flag Bars

Me and Cooch were chatting it up the other day via AIM and we were talking about the recent comment debacle over the value of a 2nd press SOA – No Policy EP. Through a slew of comments, one of our readers offered the seller at a record fair 150 for the copy of the SOA record. That same exact copy of the record went on ebay and fetched about 350. Since then a clean test press of the No Policy EP popped up that fetched around 675 bucks (I thought it was going to go for more). I’m going to say that the price of this 1st press No Policy EP brought to you by 33eyez will be hitting closer to the price of the test press than the 2nd press, but maybe not as far off from the ending price of the test press as you would think.

Let’s get real, real gone

I’m not much of an autograph hound, but this copy of Nervous Breakdown from vintagevinyl kinda cracks me up with Ginn’s “GETTIN REAL REAL GONE” inscription.

The jury’s out on whether or not these red cover copies are the second press as typically documented, or if they’re actually a 3rd or 4th version of the record. Read more here.

BLACK FLAG – Nervous Breakdown weirdo cover

straightray just keeps coming up with them. This time theres a little bonus involved. Obviously the record is awesome, but the little add on is the prize in this auction. A test print cover with Nervous Breakdown on one side and the Minutemen on the other. You Black Flag collectors out there will probably freak out over this one. I know if it was a Misfits cover like this i would be all over it. Tough to tell what something like this is worth but thats what ebay is for i suppose.

That band Rollins was in before Black Flag

This one from trout2323 has about a day and a half left and is still at a respectable 1997 price. Not a bad deal for Dischord #2.
Its a bummer they never did an LP because I think this record is better than anything he did in his next band. For the record i also think Black Flags output pre-Rollins is better than the SOA 7″.

Black Flag Pink Flag

Hey now, I don’t think I’ve seen this before. I know SST re-presses their stuff on color vinyl once in a while, but I think the more common ‘Damaged’ was white? Anyway, here’s a sweet, sweet looking pink copy of Damaged that looks like a strawberry lollipop. Mmmm. Into it.

shockme321 says this is limited to 150, it’s even written on the shrinkwarp…

As a bonus here’s a sweet video of Hank vs. some weak hipster witches:

Black Flag – Louie Louie (Poshboy)

Until very recently I discounted this Flag single as one of the duds, a gimmick, the one to skip. But after I started appreciating later BF material more and more, I gave this another listen and I now think that this is actually a pretty cool record. Now I know “Damaged I” was re-recorded with Henry later on “Damaged”, and I have had “The First Four Years” LP with this single on it since forever, but there is something else about appreciating and collecting this on it’s own, the way it first appeared.

Even though it’s from 1981 with Dez singing, I think it foreshadows the later, post 1983 Flag. The slow to midpaced, trainwreck sound. Which I think I began appreciating more as I grew to like bands like Deadguy and Kiss It Goodbye as well as reading and listening to Henry’s books and spoken word. Yeah, I am a Hank supporter. Naysayers will get brushed off. Anyway, I have the original Posh Boy version of this and a recent press on color vinyl as well. If someone has the 10″ version on color for sale, holler @ me.

peggedlegsrecords has this Poshboy og here that he says is mint (which means that it’s probably a decent VG or VG+) for a BIN of $15, which is what I paid for mine too. Besides the labels, in case you are wondering the back covers are also different on the Poshboy and SST versions.
