Darkthrone – Transilvanian Hunger TEST PRESS

As Metal Monday transitions into Test Press Tuesday, what better record to focus on than Darkthrone’s groundbreaking black metal masterpiece, Transilvanian Hunger.

This test press offered up by dosjamons claims to be for a 2002 Peaceville pressing. Since the album was first released in 1994, I think we can safely say this is a test from one of the dozen or so represses.

Still, it is at a pretty reasonable Buy It Now price and is considered the best “worst sounding on purpose” records ever made. Varg might argue that point with the first Burzum lp, but from what I saw on “Until The Light Takes Us”, Fenriz and Varg don’t look like they want to kill each other for scene points, so let’s just hope they agree to disagree.

Grow old, walk into the forest, and die

One of the first stories I ever heard about Burzum was that their singer, Varg Vikernes, killed the singer of a rival band. One of the next stories I heard was his theory on old people. He thought old people should just walk out into the forest and die. That way they wouldn’t be a burden on the system or on younger people. Don’t you want to collect their records now?

What better record to start with than a black and blue etched double LP? This is an incredibly rare first press of the 1996 release on MISANTHROPY RECORDS.

You may never see this record for sale again.

Xasthur for a black metal test press Thursday

I am here to shake things up. I will post Screamo records, I will post Power Pop, and I will post Black Metal. You can take your Bold and Insted records and shove them up… Ok. I really don’t want you to shove your records anywhere. I dunno about teonanacatl_83 though, he might want to shove those Youth Crew records somewhere, his auctions are a little on the darker side. Specifically here, he has a test pressing of the Xasthur 12″ EP “Suicide In Dark Serenity” which there were only 8 made. This record wasn’t pressed too heavily by Beastial Onslaught Productions from the get go, so it’s rare all around.

do you say Celtic or Keltic?

I present to you a first pressing and a second pressing of the Celtic Frost ‘Morbid Tales’ ep. I prefer the cover art to the ‘Emperors Return’ recod, but Morbid Tales is awesome! Since paulopereira has both the 1st press & 2nd press for sale with a ‘best offer’ option this could be a chance to scoop both for 1 low price. Also check out his other auctions for some more awesome metal vinyl!

The free introduction to Deafheaven…

…is long gone in its free state, but now you can get it on ebay. Seller hirt916 was one of the lucky 1000 people to get a copy of this record that we sent out in his/her Deathwish estore order. What better way to introduce a band to the world than with a no strings attached free record. Damn, we are so nice!

Burzum box set #6 of 15!

I got a copy of the book Lords of Chaos for Christmas and even though I dont generally enjoy reading that much I’m about 50 pages in and I’m hooked. I like reading about the bands I already know about like Venom, Slayer & Celtic Frost, but learning the more behind the scenes stuff and the history of the bands like Immortal, Mayhem and Burzum is pretty awesome! I cant wait to get to the real good murder, suicide & church burning stuff!

I’m not 100% sure what we have here, but according to the description there are only 15 of them! Its a Burzum box set called Ragnarok. It comes with a first press blue vinyl copy of the LP, a poster, a sticker & a really cool Thors hammer shirt all in a cool wooden box. The description says that this is #6 out of only 15 in existence.

I will point out that soloferagosolution has very low feedback so if you’re interested in this boxset bid with caution!

HERE LIES VENOM!

ok… lets start this weekend of Evil, Horror & Halloween themed posts with a bang!

I read a great article about Venoms ‘Welcome to Hell’ LP in this months Decibal magazine. Its got interviews with all 3 guys and recaps the really early history of the band very well! They mention how in 2010 its common place to see someone wearing a Baphomet t-shirt, but when they put one on the ‘Welcome to Hell’ LP cover (or previously on the ‘In League with Satan’ single) it was really evil!

xevilion is selling the “Here Lies Venom” box set that includes the albums ‘Welcome to Hell’, ‘Black Metal’, At War with Satan’, & ‘American Assault (picture disc version)’ all with bonus tracks.

classic metal records, cool artwork and limited to 5000 copies.

666 NUNSLAUGHTER 666

Believe it or not Nunslaughter has been at it since 1987! I saw them a few years ago at a mill in Onleyvill, RI and they rocked! Not only were they metal as fuck, but they dumped multiple bags of bones all over the place. They are truely underground metal and they have more releases than all 4 of the ‘Big 4′ combined! It seems like these guys will do a split with anyone at any time just to get their message & music out there. They also do their records big! I have a split they did that comes in a package made with real maggots.

This one is a 4 7″ box set that was done as a colaboration effort of 4 different labels. There were 999 copies total with 666 on black vinyl and 333 on purple vinyl (like this one). Usually when these are eBay they are really pricey and this one is well under its original $30 retail price with only 2 days left!

Black metal from Ohio… who would have thought!?

DFJ KICK IT!

Seller m-rulez has got one (well, six) that I know DFJ would love…

Seriously, dude loves his Norwegian Black Metal. And he’d probably love this Burzum 6 picture disc set. So if you love DFJ and have some money to burn, my man could use a present. Never got too deep into Norwegian black metal myself outside of reading Lords of Chaos, but gotta admit… that picture of Varg with the mace? Hard.

MAYHEM – Deathcrush LP orig

OK, I’ll be the first to admit I really can’t stand black metal. The whole genre seems a little too clowney for me, with dudes hiding out in the woods with their faces pained and carrying swords. I remember my brother got this LP a couple years after it came out (he was doing a black/death metal zine at the time), but at that point I was probably 14 years old and more concerned with listening to Black Flag and scrutinizing the collage on the back of the SOD lp.

That being said, this LP is one of the classics of genre and keeps getting more and more expensive each year. I think my bro sold this for $300 or so about 10 years ago, which was pretty mind blowing at the time. And metal, in general, to me, is a genre where older fans/collectors tend to hang on to their records, so this stuff just gets harder and harder to find every year.

The description is pretty outrageous and worth reading, the seller seems pretty nuts.

BATHORY – “yellow goat” LP

Welp, here it is… one of the best and most desirable metal records of all time. Bathory’s legendary debut LP was originally issued on Black Mark Records with this “yellow goat” sleeve, with most sources saying only 1,000 copies were pressed. Allegedly, Quorthon was not happy with the yellow goat, so later pressings were changed to plain black and white art, thus making the first pressing one of the top metal collectibles around.

Rant department: I really hate how overused the word “private” has become with ebay listings, it’s worse than “northern soul” or “kbd” at this point.

picture of Dead when he was dead, vocals by Dead when he was alive

Norwegian black metal heroes Mayhem live February 28, 1990 in Sarpsborg, Norway with original vocalist ‘Dead’ on vocals. The real novelty of this record is the cover.

Its a picture of the singer (whos name was) Dead that was taken after he commited suicide. The picture was taken by Euronymous, the guitarist of Mayhem when he first discovered the body. Theres also a rumer that he picked up some bits of Deads skull and later made jewlery for himself and some friends from the pieces.

The LP itself is a bootleg that is not considered a ‘semi-official’ release. The seller says that its limited to 300, but its been repressed a bunch of times. I know that some pressings added another 4 songs that were recorded after Deads suicide with Messiah on vocals.

As much as I would like to have this record I’ll never pay what true black metal fans think its worth. Today (3.3.10) is my birthday though so feel free to buy it and have it shipped directly to me as a present!
