Stay Gold

Stay Gold was a smooth hardcore band from Northwest US, mostly Seattle. They began when hardcore was in a full revival swing, 98 or 99. These were the years of Floorpunch, Reach The Sky, In My Eyes, Kid Dynamite, Saves The Day … Hardcore was back and was really taking names.

They released a few albums on smaller labels (like Aram’s Anchor Records, pre React Records!). And ended up signing to Indecision Records to sell a few EPs and LPs. They did some big tours, but at least on the east coast, they never got the fanfare they deserved. Oh sure, the Tanguays moshed like crazy bastards (or at least Kyle did), but for the most part, it felt like they slipped unnoticed through the east coast. I’m sure it was an all together different story in Seattle and Portland.

Also, lets not forget that one of the dudes in the band is named Eagle Barber. Great name. And a pretty chill dude too. He hooked me up with a big box of tees a while back for a VERY reasonable price. Big fan.

First up, their first release on Anchor Records. Later Anchor Records would release EPs from What Feeds The Fire and almost Verse. Then Aram got super busy touring the world 600 times over with Champion and had to put record labels on the back burner for a bit. But this Stay Gold EP is a fave. This is the regular release.

This is the same EP but with the limited edition record release cover. Limited to 75. Aram is obviously good with packaging, always has been. This one comes with an acetate sleeve AND a vellum sleeve. Clear vinyl too!

Up next is the Caught Up In The Moment EP from Indecision Records. This one dropped in 2001 and was really when Stay Gold seemed to shine. This was the record that kids really wanted. Sadly, most of those kids wanted the record in 2006, instead of when it originally dropped in 2001. Like Van Gogh, they seemed to have got more popular post break up.

If you never got down with Stay Gold, I suggest picking these up. They are worth the listen. Continue reading »

ALERT!

If you haven’t heard Alert yet, you must be living in a yurt in the middle of Big Sur.

I can’t think of any other reason you would have missed out on this crew.

Seriously.

This band is all about fun. They bring it back like the late 80s. No one takes themselves to seriously, but pride in their actions is apparent. Lots of Straight Edge pride up on this one.

This lot is for the demo pressed on wax. I’m 90% positive it only came on clear and black, and both colors had an equal amount pressed. What’s odd is that the record label is some joint from Florida that I just can’t recall. I honestly would have expected a Western Mass label, but no.

Also, the cover is drawn up by Jay Jacoby. You’ve seen his work before, trust me. Great dude with a good eye (and a steady hand) for what bands want and deserve.

I suggest snapping this up. In about 6 months, you’ll be kicking yourself if you don’t. Trust me on that one.

63 Inches Of Boston Hardcore

The contents of this auction may be a little overwhelming to some, underwhelming to others.

For those of you expecting DYS or In My Eyes, you are out of luck on that.

BUT you can scoop this lot and discover some of the Boston area gems you may have overlooked in the last 20 years.

Lets take Daltonic, for example. Great central mass (not really boston, but you get the point) hardcore band that rocked through the mid 90s. At one point, I think Dalbec from Bane played with this crew. I can recall a great show at the Old Store in Palmer Mass with Daltonic. Excellent gig. Skott is still out there doing his thing. Still down for the core too.

Chilmark. Wow. Named after a little town on the coast of Martha’s Vineyard. Fun fact: Martha’s Vineyard is one of only FIVE locations in the US with a possessive apostrophe in the name. Now how’s that for hardcore trivia?

Opposition (on clear vinyl), Ipecac, Cast Iron Hike (wowza), …

Kingpin. Oh man. There are always rumors of a Kingpin discography, but it hasn’t hit yet.

And a great comp from 1991 that features Said And Done, Wrecking Crew (pre Righteous Jams, duh) and Sam Black Church. That’s right, Sam Black Church. You’re moshing.

Honestly, the only thing this lot is missing is Dive. If there was a Dive EP in here, you’d basically have Earlky/Mid 90s Mass in one go.

A Couple of BIN$$$$$$

I stumbled across these EPs last night.

And I was astounded at how awesome they are, and the great condition that they appear to be in.

Then I nearly keeled over when I saw the Buy It Now prices.

1. Together Comp EP on Orange vinyl with the Batman Stamp. Holy shit, that’s cool. Everyone has drooled over the Rev List before. I know I have. I’m sure I’m not the only one. This particular record is one of 400 AND one of “a number of the orange vinyl copies.” Not very specific. Could be 4, could be 14, could be 140. I’m guessing closer to 14 than 140, of course.

But WOW at the $1k Buy It Now price. Seems a little steep to me.

2. Antidote – Thou Shalt Not Kill EP. Fuck, this is a GREAT one. Think of all the bands that have used this EP as their blueprint. A quintessential piece of NYHC. But for $1k? Yikes. “Too rich for my blood.”

Mindset

I’m a big fan of React Records. Aram is a great dude, and he’s pulled together some awesome bands for his label.

He also pulls together some excellent packages for his releases. Always that personal touch.

Mindset is one of those bands on React Records. Mindset is also awesome. The music is fucking excellent. There is no doubt about that. They’re holding down that Central US Straight Edge scene. Much like The First Step, they have it on lock.

Go ahead and grab this ep set, and you’ll be one step closer to having a collection like Jay Jacoby. This lot comes with everything Aram would have sent you had pre-ordered like you know you should have.

Don’t forget, The React Records showcase is one week from today in Berkley, Cali. If anyone wants to fly me out for the gig, I’ll gift them some sweet slabs of wax. Get at me, folks.

It’s All Our Blood

I came across this GREAT lot just now.

Actually, a little birdie told me about it …

Now, my math may not be the greatest (if you saw my tax return, you’d likely agree), but $67 for these 3 LPs seems like a a second best bargain to having actually done the pre-order the first time around. Color vinyl is sold out so you can’t get that anymore. Of course, you should still order the black vinyl from the labels. Support React Records and Youngblood Records.

Do it. Do it.

Great record.

Guns Up Rejected Test Press

I know we’ve seen test presses for this album on ebay before.

BUT

Never before have we seen the REJECTED test presses. In fact, I wasn’t even aware there were rejected test presses. Seller has lots of great info (of course, he’s a head). And this one seems to be coming straight from Riley’s collection. To yours?

Dan Doyle would support. Do your job, pick this one up. Guns Up. Mosh.

Together Comp

AS ONE

We must be united, AS ONE.

If this video doesn’t make you want to mosh, you are doing something wrong.

I picked up my copy of the Together Comp when I purchased a whole collection. I was like a kid on Christmas morning. This collection was untouched, unsoiled, full of goodies. Here are a couple of bangers I picked up that day:

Together Comp on black AND orange
Straight Ahead 1st Press LP
Judge LP on green
GB LP on purple

What a glorious day.

I’d wager this particular copy is 2nd press based on the “yellow” insert. Not sure if it’s just yellowed paper. But my guess, 2nd press.

Or if you prefer a first press (from the bassist of Aware!).
