Shall be tickled pink

Seller pwktn has a record for us that does no wrong. For the past few years of Hallowe’en I’ve wanted to make paper maché masks as featured on the back of the sleeve.

Who the heck wouldn’t be tickled pink to receive this record. Does Morgodo have this record yet? The colours in this picture are poppin’. I first heard this record in my early 20′s at a record store in Montreal purely because it was on REV. This wasn’t the first time I heard the band though. I had picked up a used copy of the cleanse cd in hikeschool. Kinda funny being exposed to this band through that release. The cover of this ep is so weird. It almost looks like a photo was taken of a 5th generation vhs live set while being played on someone’s tv. I often wonder who the BURN heads are. You gotta understand I come from the Canadian Shield so we don’t really cross paths too often. I’ve always thought that BURN has gotta be for the well versed hc types. Those a bit more schooled, and developed palates of aiche see. The photo insert and design therein, is pretty tight. A very brooding urban setting.

** For those really into HC minutiae I read in a zine a while back that REV 21 & 22 were released on the very same day…imagine that.

Shall Be Judged

I keep a list of every show I’ve ever attended. Yes, that’s how I roll. Detail oriented. But for a while in 2000 and 2001, I fell off. I stopped updating it. And there is this one Bane gig in Philly that will forever elude me. I just can’t remember where or when it was, and I can’t find anyone who knows what I’m talking about. So I asked a few older Philly dudes, and they listed off some likely venues. Killtime, 4040, Rotunda … But one of the dudes also pointed out some youtube clips that might jog my memory better. One of the videos he pointed out was for the Burn reunion in 2001 at the Rotunda. Watch it.

Am I crazy, or is this crowd populated by mannequins and wallflowers? Holy fucking shit. When Godhead is played, you mosh. That should be the first rule of hardcore. I’m judging this crowd, and I think they could do better. I see that Tim, Traci and Brett know the rule. Plus a few others. Then compare it to this Marquee show in 91. These guys know the rules.

Or hell, what about this Twisters show in 98?

Grab this from handsomephantom.

Ps. Is Brett Beach in ALL of those videos? Crazy

Forever – A Hardcore Compilation

This is a great little comp. I was first introduced to this comp when I was a guest DJ on our college radio’s punk show and the regular DJ brought some records form his collection to play and he pulled this EP out. I like how it mixes up the more caustic ABC-No Rio bands with BURN and Turning Point. It’s all NYHC, forever! (OK Turning Point was from NJ). Pretty sure the Burn song is exclusive to this comp. This record later got tacked onto the 12″ re-release of the “Rebuilding” comp, which was another cool 7″ comp from around the same time that also featured Turning Point and Burn.

Help handsomephantom pay his debt so he can get un-frozen from carbonite.

Far East Rev collection

Seller ohisamanoheya-san from Japan has a couple Rev color vinyl versions your collection might be missing, and surprisingly they aren’t bid on yet with less than 24 hours to go. I suppose if all else fails you can grab the 2-pack of black vinyl.

Side note: I hate thin plastic inner sleeves but I love those Japanese ones with the rounded bottom, I wish all records came in these things.

I’ll Take Nine Copies Of The Burn EP On Yellow Please.

To the shock of absolutely no one, eBay has already been flooded with flippings of yesterday’s Record Store Day purchases. I mean, we’re talking listings in the double digits on some of this stuff. Now, me personally? All I was interested in picking up was the Burn ep on yellow. Which I easily acquired courtesy of a 3pm visit to the Natick Newbury Comics, where I was told that no one had touched any of the Rev releases all day. So I made some calls, shot out some texts, and ended up buying basically all of what they had to distribute amongst my friends who couldn’t make it to a store. It was only fair; I had people looking out for me in case I missed out. Could I have simply bought them all anyways for flipping? Sure, but it would have bit me in the ass. Because as of this writing, I count NINE of the RSD Burn ep currently up for auction and/or BIN… mostly BIN.

That last one from huntermass is the only one with any sort of viable excuse behind it, as he says his wife also purchased one, so he posted the extra for cost, and the one right above it from bishamma was started at a mere 99 cents, so that one might be worth taking a shot at. The rest of these… hey, it’s your money. We just post things that are interesting or that we want to talk about.

RSD: Good Morning, Flippers

First off, happy Record Store Day! It’s a good one, for sure. Lots of great Rev releases, Rival Schools, Sonic Youth, … some gems. And of course, happy Flipping Day! It’s already begun. The east coast is barely 4 hours into RSD, but it’s already begun. You can thank xbestoneyetx and zork1212 for the first ups today (first EST ups, there’s already a few up in the UK).

Pale yellow or dark yellow? I’m guessing dark yellow. The pale is pretty pale. Update: Someone hit that $30 BIN, grab this one instead.

Weird. I haven’t found the Elliot EP yet. Hmmm.

CLEANSE.

Seller zero.street has tons of auctions up for us to pick from, and honestly there are so many that it’s hard to decide what to showcase. But as a bonefide BURN nut, I had to go with this copy of Cleanse on red. I know a lot of people were down on this recording, but I like it fine. Yeah, Chaka is kind of using his Orange 9mm voice, and the recording is somehow less intense than the crappy live tapes we had to put up with before this and Last Great Sea came out, but Gavin’s riffing is still some of the illest you’ll ever hear. I even kind of like the cover, but that’s because I like to think it’s a call back to the old Uzi/Television tee…

The Early Bird Gets The Burn.

Seller skullsterac is making a pretty ballsy run for some money by selling all 4 of the Revelation Records’ Record Store Day pressings a week early…

A 75 buck start that someone has already jumped on? Somebody must be seriously busy next week. I’m not busy though, and by hook or by crook I’ll be getting at least a copy of the Burn ep on yellow that day. Hopefully without paying 75 bucks…

Burns And BINS.

The Burn ep on pink wax is a record I covet. So while I’m psyched to see one with a BIN that matches what it regularly sells for come up from goodgoodbuddy, a part of me can’t help wanting to wait it out and try to get my pal Tre’s, just on the chance that I can snag it for a couple bucks less… ordinarily I wouldn’t care and just swoop on the BIN, but I’ve already blown more than a few dollars on fairly priced Burn items the past couple months, so I feel like I should try to be one of the lucky people who snag this one for 30 rather than 50.

Where IS Everybody?

Seriously? TWO posts since Tuesday? I’m ashamed to have taken the day off yesterday. If we aren’t careful, this site will be like Absurd Noize before we know it (don’t worry Murphy, I’m doing a bunch of posts for that next). So let me make it up for you. To start, here’s a batch of colorful classics from in_vinyl_we_trust:

(ANOTHER Burn on pink? That’s what I like to see! Keep flooding that market so I can get one for cheap, people!)

Arguably, clear isn’t a color, but the point is to make you all feel good about life with some nice lookin’ vinyl, so stop spoiling it!

5th Degree Burn.

Is it me or have we seen a lot of pink wax Burn 7 inches like this one being sold by iheartprunes lately?

I went and checked our archives, and this is the 5th one since December. Not that I’m complaining, mind you, as the more of the 1000 pressed that turn up, the better the odds of me getting one for far cheaper than the $75 BIN on this one.

Rev Collection – Burn

Maybe my favorite Rev release depending on the day. Def my #1 or #2 live bands ive seen(i was LUCKY enough to catch them 8 times). This record is great and the price always exceeds the “last great sea” ep which confuses me a bit. This is out of 1000 on pink while the “last great sea” is out of 300ish and both records are arguably tied in greatness but in terms of selling price wise no one seems to give a shit about “last great sea”. More for me I guess :)

1000 on pink wax

Check out chrismin‘s other auctions for shit you know you want. Spend that Xmas money

A Pair of Pink.

These two auctions from xscottbeuryx have pretty much nothing in common. There are only two things I can think of are that they both have one word band names, and both have 7 inches that were pressed on some nice lookin’ pink vinyl.

Obviously Panic doesn’t come close to touching Burn with a ten foot pole, but then again, who does?

Rev 3-pack

Kind of a no-brainer lot here from ferryk177, ending in less than a day.

The other day I went to fix the Street Fighter machine at my friend’s work, and when I got there I found a couple of other miscreants in the back using the computer to watch youtube videos. They were checking out Inside Out videos since one of them had never heard them before, and I realized I had not listened to this band in a LONG time. Definitely nowhere near as good now as they were to my 17 year old ears, but still pretty solid.

The other two records in this lot on the other hand — stone cold classics. Someone asked me the other day if Burn was better than Absolution, and my answer was yes on record, but no in general. If I didn’t have one on pink already, I’d snatch this lot up in a second.
