Who doesn’t love the 90s? I know ChipxSem does. What jerktopia has for us here are the 2 nice releases by the band that was in the this transition period where everyone went from the 80s generic youth crew to the 90s REV/NEW AGE/VICTORY sound. If I’m not mistaken the singer and drummer from Forced Down were at one point, amongst few other well known bands of the time like Amenity and Pitchfork, in Inside Out. This alone should be enough for you to want this.
What I love about these two releases though (except for cool music) is the attention to detail that was put into the packaging. Not only cool covers with nice choice of colour vinyl but lots of little things that make your day brighter, big inserts, medium inserts, smaller inserts, multicolour stamps… you know what I’m talking about. Record releasing perfection.

Early 90s, you know.. baggy pants, striped XXXL T-shirts and all..
Soul Search Test Press – Intolerable Weight
Great friend barfight is selling his Soul Search – Intolerable Weight test press. This release was pre-Triple B 7″ and on Thick Skin Records. I don’t know anything about Thick Skin Records, but in barfight‘s description he states that there are only 500 of the regular version of this 7 inch. Soul Search is a new addition to the Back To Back family so show them some love and check out the auction.
Caught this set at the Cobalt Cafe in LA, real wild.
TPT: Lights Out
Who remembers Lights Out? They burst out of San Francisco with a vengeance. So good live, great on record too.
Go ahead and grab these test presses from quit_everything. Both from Youngblood Records. Both limited to 24. I expect bidding to get nutty. Good luck.
On a personal note, quit_everything was in a car accident yesterday which totaled his car and busted up his fingers. He could really, REALLY use the money from these auctions to pay hospital bills and the like. So bid and bid generously.
Sink With Kalifornia
I don’t like to get into the whole ‘which was better’ debate, I think both bands are great for different reasons, and I began listening to both right around the same time in high school so I love both. The only thing is that unlike the DC one, this Youth Brigade dragged their legacy through the mud in the 1990′s (we all love the 90′s now and remember just the good times, but there were many downsides to that baggy decade) with their later albums, and the DC Youth Brigade did the classic hardcore thing of putting out one great record and breaking up forever. Had this YB stayed broken up, (they broke up then got back together after a while) a lot less people would be eager to jump over themselves to say the DC band was better.
Anyway, this is the first Youth Brigade LP and it is a great album and this is the album Youth Brigade from CA is know for and remembered by. It’s an album I’ve loved since high school, and I was listening to it along with Minor Threat and Dead Kennedys, and will continue to love it. This is the European pressing with a different cover, I’ve only seen this in person once and I was going to buy it but it was in pretty rough shape. Since I already have two other versions of this I think I can wait a while longer, but at $14 this is a great deal on a classic LP for anyone that doesn’t have it.
Welcome To California!
I’m in California. Are you in California? It’s the place to be this weekend. Hang out at the TTD/VNZ/Noize table if you have a minute. Otherwise, have a gander at this EP from friedchickenhead. This is the In My Eyes Demo EP with the Welcome To California sleeve. Here’s the weird part. I have one of these. Mine is number 50/50. Odd part. Mine is clear vinyl with a red slip cover and the regular sleeve. This one is clearly blue vinyl with a yellow sleeve, and no sign of the regular sleeve. What’s up with that? Can we get AP to weigh in on this one?
WTF? Knife Fight
Am I missing something about this auction from thrashard665? The Knife Fight Crisis LP. A great band, no doubt. Good dudes too, of course. But is that a Jon Westbrook John Hancock? Wild times. Who is buying the lp for Jon’s signature? I do not know.
MORE PROOF – People in California are Greedy
What the hell? Eighty one dollar bills for this shit on black? Of course, you could use four twenties (wakka wakka), depending on what numerical symbol adorns the paper rectangles that live in your pockets. Maybe it is just this band as our last entry on this topic was this very same album? I don’t know about you dudes but there is something fishy going on over there. Ever notice how anyone you know that lives in CA doesn’t work a full work week? Or how there are more shiny new BMW’s than 1986 Cutlass Sierra’s parked like dominos alongside every road? It’s as if the whole place is an illusion, like there is a concentration of fake people trying to project wealth and status they don’t actually have.
I’ll get to the bottom of this one day.
*BONUS*
I once went surfing in Laguna Beach and was hit by a wave so hard I didn’t notice my swimsuit had been sucked right off. However, a bunch of sunbathing girls did notice. It was the inspiration for much laughter adulatory cheering as they gazed upon my shriveled and cold as fuck giant member
Stone Cold Classic
Before 1985, California punk and hardcore was massive.
But after… California makes a sharp decline.
Not a diss at all, but let’s be real. Look at the bands and music California was churning out before 1985. So, to say it slowed down considerably is fair. But if they only had one record to contribute to hardcore punk… California would’ve done it right by choosing this one.
Almost nothing looks cooler than Wishingwell Records on color vinyl. From the looks of it, the seller is a so cal lifer with some other big time stuff for sale, so definitely check the other items. It feels right buying a U.C. LP on color and having it mailed to you from Orange County, CA… even in 2010.
Rev Collection – Chain of Strength
Another installtion of the Rev Collection
Both of these sellers are high as a kite with those BINs. For Reals.
For the young bloods out there. There was a time when collecting records wasnt that cool or trendy. And it wasnt that long ago, like mid/late 90s. I remember a friend, Geoff ordred the green COS 12″ and when he got it in the mail he thought it was warped. So he called up Rev, sent it back and then like a week later he got another. Now a days records on limited colored vinyl are selling out in a day or hours. Or pre-ordered. It was around this time, actually summer of 1997 I was able to and ordered 5 copies of Judge “the Storm” on gold for $3 each. They still had tons of them. It seemed once the internet got into full steam and with ebay added shit got crazy. Still is.

Nerve Agents colors
I will be doing these posts occasonally. Helping to remind you of those Rev releases you still need to fill the holes in your Kev Finn-esq collection. Plus Im interested to see how much some of these go for
I still remember the first time I heard the Nerve Agents. It was during the 1998 Rev summer tour with IME,battery, speak, and Better than a G. I forgot whose house we were chilling at but I remember talking to the host about how much I loved Redemption 87. He said he had a tape of a new band that was gonn be on Rev and he made me a dub on the spot. I was psyched. I ended up actually seeing them play a few days later in Cali. Good time. Im into both these records

Descendents – Everything Sucks
Man what a good gag! Please check out the buyers BIN price! crazy right?!? Especially when you can still order it directl from Epitaph.
I myself already ordered and had it delivered the other day. I am actually currently working on my Descendents colored collection so this was a good addition for me. A lot of people hate on this record. I wasnt too into it when it first came out and then one day it just clicked and I love it along with the ret of thier catalogue.

You’re welcome.
Carry On Stabbed In The Face Test Press EP
This EP doesn’t get enough fanfare.
The Roll With The Punches EP gets a ton of attention (In fact, I was going to originally post the 420 EP, but the seller already yanked it from ebay. Must be VERY in demand). And the LP gets even more attention (sort of understandable as it is phenomenal). But this EP is great.
Clean cut, fresh faces out of Southern California. Hardcore the way it was meant to be played. Just going out there and having fun with it. Nothing too serious but packs a positive message. I can dig this.
Test press #4/8. Pick this one up. Feel free to cruise the seller’s other auctions for other rad Carry On gear too.
Uniform Choice Double EP
I never understood the purpose of this particular release. Headhunter / Cargo Records split release.
Basically, it’s the demo converted to vinyl. July 19, 1984. A long time ago, that’s for certain. 25 years is no joke.
However, there is one thing I absolutely LOVE about this EP set. And that is the drawings on the labels. I love those little thing.
Yes, I realize they were originally (or most of them) released as sleeve prints for the 4 sided Wishingwell UC tees. Like the flying skin.
Or the UC Boyz skin, which I can’t seem to find a pic of. (Casali, help me out, brother).
You’ll notice the images aren’t EXACTLY the same though, like someone redrew them because of how awesome they are. The stomping skin is perhaps my favorite. Lead Edge.
One other note. A few years ago, my brother bought me the test press of this double ep set. I think he paid less than $15. How crazy is that??
