Step Aside Demo 2011

I kept wracking my brains trying to figure out why I should know who Step Aside. Not that I’m out of the loop, but it’s not often I hear about bands from Arizona. Something was ticking my memory. Maybe it was their location, or that they were a straight edge band. But upon seeing the artwork on the bandcamp page, I remembered where. The artwork is by our friend Michiel Walrave. I must have seen it floating around a while back. The demo is good stuff. I’m feeling it. So was itsxdead, but now he’s selling two versions. Both are numbered out of 50.

Both are still available from the label, Hard Press Records which may or may not be the seller, Marlon’s label. I know he has a label, just can’t remember the name of it. Get into this band. You’ll thank me.

ps. After thinking about it for a few more minutes, it occurred to me that Step Aside was a mid 90s hardcore band. You’d often see their EP in the dollar bin. THAT’S IT!!

Cassette Noize: harDCore and more.

Unless someone gives me a free car with a deck, I don’t think I need to ever own another cassette in my life, but for those who still dig, this is a cool little lot from sabasketball (basketball?). I knew it existed but I’ve never actually seen an “Out Of Step” cassette. Not bad. Free shipping too!

PANZER BENNETT

infinite_justice is selling a Panzer Bastard cassette that I’ve never seen. The description says ” BASTARDS DIE HARD – Original 2011 French Edition cassette on Maltkross Prds”

Keith Bennetts Deathwish Movers TV show may have been (sadly) canceled, but you can pick up this cassette add it to your collection of Wrecking Crew & Bitter stuff! My favorite Keith Bennett quote…. (while talking about himself) “They will think this guy Looks like Hetfield, plays like Cliff & talks like Lars”

I GOT THE BONG!

The first hardcore show I ever saw was Murphy’s Law headlining at the ‘old’ Living Room in Providence. It was a Sunday afternoon in the summer of 1989 and I took the bus from Woonsocket to Providence with 2 other friends who had been to a couple of punk shows already. I had grown up a ‘Head Banger’ and had recently discovered ‘punk’ so I was terrified and had no idea what to expect.

Local band The Wurst was first and I remeber it being the first of many times that I saw Rob Phelps with his huge head of liberty spikes. The 2nd band was Low Meato and all I remember about them was that they had a song that used the riff from Paraniod by Sabbath.

My the time Murphy’s Law started I had ended up right front and center at the stage. At some point I was pushed on to the stage but was content with sitting there, until one of the boucners decided I needed to move and with assistance from him and Jimmy G I made my first (un-intentional) stage dive! If I remember right I fell like a rock through the crowd to the floor, but the minute I landed and people helped me up I realized it wasnt that bad… Hell, I even liked it a little!

I still have the ‘Back with a Bong’ shirt that I bought at that show and a pair of official ‘Dougie Beans signature drum sticks’ that I picked up off the floor. Its been a long road, but I’m still grateful to my friends for taking me to that show and many more that followed!

Choose your format & relive my childhood memories!

Many Great Reasons To Buy A Tape Deck

Nothing beats driving around on a gorgeous summer day blasting tape demos. Of course, no cars come with tape decks anymore. How shitty is that? Maybe we should show these auctions from overpowerovercome to some well known car manufacturers. These would certainly change their minds, right? Mental, Ten Yard Fight, Right Brigade, No Warning .. Fuck, some gems up in these auctions. Guessing the seller is David I. Close?

Dig the new breed

Kind of a weird one here from gernblandsten — og book, og cover, og labels, with newly dubbed tape. The bin price seems high, but hey… “Never Ending Game” is worth pretty much any price you can pay.

For Your Tape Deck

One of the best things I did this winter was fully setting up my stereo. It’s been years since I had a solid working tape deck. After I traded in my last car, my daily demo session was out the window. My previous home set up didn’t allow much room for the side by side tape deck. But now I’m back. And I’ve been going big. If I was smart, I’d add these two tapes from jake4sox to that collection. Can’t go wrong with Title Fight or Stick Together. Anyone got emps of that Title Fight tape? Might be nice for the ipod when I’m driving around town. Speaking of ipods, jake4sox is selling a quite a few of them. And for that matter, quite a few verizon blackberries too. Weird.

Cassette Noize – Metallica Edition

talbe1019 has a bunch of cassettes that look like they could have come out of my collection circa 1991 and its making me feel a little nostalgic!

I remember when I got my cassette versions of the Whiplash single, the Jump in the Fire single and the Creeping Death single. The Whiplash one was always my favorite because it was the ‘rarest’, but Creeping Death is definitly one of the (if the thee) best Metallica album covers out there! The B-sides on this one are the well known covers of Diamond Heads ‘Am I Evil’ and the song ‘Blitzkrieg’ by the band Blitzkrieg. Both of these songs ended up on the first reissue of the Kill Em All LP.

I also remember being so into cassingles back in the day. If it was a band I was super into, Like Metallica, I would break off the 2 prongs in a cassette case and put the cassingle sleeve in the plastic case to ‘protect it’. The Eye of the Beholder single is great because the Metallica cover of Breadfan is awesome! It wasnt until years later that I tracked down the original by Budgie and I’m pretty sure I wouldnt have liked it back then, but today I’m proud to say I am a Budgie fan!

One is a song that at this point I think is really overrated. I didnt even like it that much back in the day. I was one of the dooshbags that thougt Metallica was ‘selling out’ by being on Mtv and that the song was to slow. Little did I know what was to come with the Black Album! Anyway, the B-side to this one is their cover of ‘The Prince’ originally by Diamond Head. Not as good as Breadfan, but not bad!

was Leatherface an alt-rocker or a metalhead?

Whats your flavor of choice… we got a cassette copy of the soundtrack to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre part II. It was ubber campy and had a bunch of one-liners courtesy of Choptop (Bill Moseley), but it had a pretty rockin alternative soundtrack fueled by the likes of Concrete Blonde, The Cramps & Stewart Copland.

If that doesnt get your (chainsaw) engine runnin than maybe this cassette copy of the TCM III soundtrack will. Texas Chainsaw III, actually titled Leatherface, was still not as real and gritty as the original, but it took out a lot of the comedy that they stuck into part II. Its also the film that brought us the tag line “The Saw Is Family” which I proudly have tattooed in a saw blade around my right ankle. The soundtrack to part III was a bonanza of late 80′s metal with Laaz rockit & Death Angel leading the charge!

Get Loaded and Fuck

Two of my favorite Poison Idea collectibles… the band released these themselves around ’89, and I believe there are only 200 or 250 made of each.

The Plastic Bomb/We Got The Beat cassingle has the insanely raging alternate version of Plastic Bomb that didn’t make it to the Feel The Darkness LP, I always wondered why they chose to include the lesser version on the LP. The cassette was then bootlegged on a 7″ by some unscrupulous Euros and then the band retaliated with the Official Bootleg double 7″ (which included the tape and two extra tracks).

Get Loaded and Fuck is a band-released version of the Ian Mackaye 12″, which includes 3/4 of the Filthkick 7″ plus the two songs from the Getting The Fear 12″ and one unreleased song (Burned For The Last Time). Contrary to the auction write-up, I’m pretty sure this tape came out after Filthkick (but before Ian Mackaye). Essential listening and an essential piece for a complete PI collection.

Columbus Day Songs that Tickle Your Funny Bone

I’ve been trying to make themed posts when a holiday comes up, but man for Columnus Day it was slim pickings!

I know its not all that interesting of a holiday, but I get the day off from work and I will be at Autumnfest in Woonsocket, RI eating shitty food and watching lots of white trash so I was happy to find this item from cherylok so I could post it in honor of the day!

It looks like this is an educational book & cassette. It came from a library that cleared out all their cassettes and now you have a chance to buy it. Its a 16 song tape from 1983 along with a book of the music so that a music teacher could play along I guess. Maybe they used it to teach the recorder back in the day. Man I hated playing that thing. I broke my finger in grammer school and the best part was that I couldnt play the recorder anymore!

Demonstrate My Demo!

I have been collecting music for over 30 years now. I still have the first record that I ever got (Kiss Alive II) along with about 800 other pieces of vinyl, close to 1400 CDs and a box full of cassettes that I’ve been holding on to. All that being said I haven’t had a stereo set up since I moved into my current residence over 5 years ago. I’ve bought stuff and listened to CDs in my car and stuff on my computer & iPod, but thats about it.

Well the dark ages ended last weekend when I finally got a stereo all hooked up again! I have my old Technics 1200, an old JVC duel tape deck, a Sony 5 disc CD changer and a used Yamaha receiver (courtesty of Analog Underground on Broadway in Providence!). I listened to a bunch of stuff over the last few days but finally having a full set up again I started browsing demo tapes and I present you with my findings. Some are legit old demos, at least one (the Nausea tape) is not OG, but they all got some good tunes on em!

More cool comps

Morgado’s arch ebay nemesis natalia112345 is back again, and the prices are a little more down to earth this time.

Here are a few cool comps with some notable tunes on them, all nice and cheap…

1. A Generation of Hope 7″
Great comp of late 80′s harder edge bands. Best Confront song, everyone’s favorite Chain song, and the only studio track released on vinyl by the almighty Pushed Aside. If you haven’t heard Pushed Aside’s demo, do yourself a favor and grab the 7″ reissue from a few years back on Indecision.

2. In-Effect Sampler cassette
This was released as a promo for current and upcoming records on In-Effect. This comp is cool because it has the only ever officially released songs from Sick Of It All’s demo tape, and has a couple of songs from the legendary Raw Deal demo. A steal at only 99¢!

3. Chop Chop 7″
Decent Bad Trip song on side A, but this comp is really worth getting for the A-Bomb-A-Nation tracks at the end, which although they are live, are (sort of) the only vinyl output from this seriously underrated NYHC band. There’s another comp ep with them playing live on WFMU radio (which is AWESOME), but 450+ of the 500 copies made have been sitting in a basement in NJ for the past 15+ years.

Cassette Noize

If you hit up the www.heavymetalmuseum.com you can grab the first 2 Murphy’s Law records on cassette! Perfect for a long road trip in an old car with no CD player and sure to cause lots of car moshing! These are so much cheaper than tracking down every color or the vinyls that I might just start collecting tapes!
