Pennyroyal Tea

I really dont know why this Nirvana EP is so rare, but I remember there being HUGE hype about it back when it came out. I was working at the Newbury Comics Warehouse and there was a huge buzz about this Nirvana CD that was coming in and was SUPER rare. I was able to scoop one up and held on to it for quite awhile then eBayed it for about $300. I later heard that the one that I had was a bootleg, but I dont know how someone would know that or if it was true.

The seller is giving quite a bit if info so if you know the details then you can tell if this is the real deal or not and maybe fill me in on what it all means. The acoustic version of Pennyroyal Tea is actually one of my favorite Nirvana songs.

I GOT THE BONG!

The first hardcore show I ever saw was Murphy’s Law headlining at the ‘old’ Living Room in Providence. It was a Sunday afternoon in the summer of 1989 and I took the bus from Woonsocket to Providence with 2 other friends who had been to a couple of punk shows already. I had grown up a ‘Head Banger’ and had recently discovered ‘punk’ so I was terrified and had no idea what to expect.

Local band The Wurst was first and I remeber it being the first of many times that I saw Rob Phelps with his huge head of liberty spikes. The 2nd band was Low Meato and all I remember about them was that they had a song that used the riff from Paraniod by Sabbath.

My the time Murphy’s Law started I had ended up right front and center at the stage. At some point I was pushed on to the stage but was content with sitting there, until one of the boucners decided I needed to move and with assistance from him and Jimmy G I made my first (un-intentional) stage dive! If I remember right I fell like a rock through the crowd to the floor, but the minute I landed and people helped me up I realized it wasnt that bad… Hell, I even liked it a little!

I still have the ‘Back with a Bong’ shirt that I bought at that show and a pair of official ‘Dougie Beans signature drum sticks’ that I picked up off the floor. Its been a long road, but I’m still grateful to my friends for taking me to that show and many more that followed!

Choose your format & relive my childhood memories!

its Eddies head!

I got to see a lot of cool stuff when I worked at Newbury Comics, some of it I bought but a lot of it was just out of reach at the time. One of those out of reach items was the Iron Maiden ‘Eddies Head’ box set!

The set includes 13 albums (16 CDs) from the first ‘self titled’ Iron Maiden LP to the 1997 ‘X-Factor’ album and all the CDs are ‘enhanced’ with the exception of the ‘X-Factor’ disc. The set also includes a 24 page book, but all of that is completly overshadowed by the ‘box’ that it comes in!

The ‘box’ portion of this box set is actually sculpted to look like Eddies head! The top hinges so you lift the face to view the CDs, but when its closed you can just have Eddies head sitting on your bookshelf, complete with glowing red eyes! As an added bonus the spines of the CDs go together to recreate the first Eddie from the self titled album.

I remember these being VERY fragile and VERY expensive when they came out so seeing this one in almost perfect shape and with working eyes is pretty impressive and even though its still out of my price range, I dont think that its all that much more than the original retail price! Kudos to musicassettes for putting this one up in such great shape!

No Longer At CDease

OK so this isn’t CD NOIZE, but I always thought this thing was kind of cool/peculiar. Combined Effort must have had a manufacturing hookup, as this record came on LP, CD and cassette which is pretty much unheard of for a small label like that in 1989. I’m guessing the CD and cassette versions weren’t made in too large of quantity, as they don’t seem to turn up nearly as much as the vinyl. Then again I’m not checking the used CD/tape sections at stores too much.

Unrelated… I heard there was going to be a vinyl reissue of the Beyond demo on a European label a couple years ago. Did that ever happen? Want want want.

“This is Springfield, Not Shelbyville”

I remember getting this CD with a copy of Change Fanzine #11 when I worked at Newbury Comics. I dont recall what was in the zine, but I mainly bought it for the CD anyway. How can you not love a comp called “This is Springfield, Not Shelbyville”!

The CD is 47 tracks including a bunch of Simpsons themed songs and covers by a bunch of bands I’ve barely heard of and a bunch of audio clips of Simpsons quotes.

The highlight of the comp is a rendition of Millhouse singing a song called “Firestorm Springfield” thats a nod to Earth Crisis and a rant about how the Simpsons sucked after season 10.

The seller, changezine is actually the guy that put out the zine about 11 years ago. He says that they pressed 2000 CDs and they all sold out but he had a bunch of booklets left so he is selling CDR copies with original booklets for ONE DOLLAR! Seriously…. $1 and FREE shipping… GO BUY THIS NOW!!

Some bands on the comp include…
Hallraker, Hooray For Everything, The Brickbrats, Arson Family, Black Army Jacket, Gun It, They Live, Asspatula, The Adhesives, Tied Down, Standing 8 and a bunch more.

thanks for sumpthin’

Paul Bearer and the newley formed Sheer Terror just got back from a triumphant tour of Japan. Paulie said that it was awesome, the opening band ‘Aggressive Dogs’ were awesome, he ate sushi and it was awesome and not to be surprised if he moves to Japan sometime in the future.

I’m not sure if its sold out or not, but Sheer Terror is playing at Webster Hall in NYC on November 28th. Paul dubbed the 2nd to last show ‘the wake’ and the last show ‘the funeral’. The show at This Is Hardcore in Philly was titled ‘the resurection’ and the show November 28th is ‘the homecoming dance’. ST is tigher then they ever have been (no disrespect to past members!) and they are worth seeing!!

Wether you can make it to NYC for the show or not bellyfeller has a collection of 4 CDs that are all must own!

You get…
“Just Can’t Hate Enough”
“Ugly & Proud”
“Thanks Fer Nuthin’”
“Love Songs For The Unloved”

all for one bargain basement price so dont miss out on them!

truely a band to be tributed…

I’m a sucker for cover songs. Some are great, some are good, most are bad, but I’m always curious to hear them. Its a super bonus when its a band I love covering a band I love, but as long as I like either the original song or the band covering it, I will check it out.

This tribute record qualifys as original songs I love, but are mostly covered by bands that I’m not a huge fan of. That being said a lot of them are interesting and worth a listen. Moby doing Sailin’ On, Ignite doing Pay To Cum, Supertouch/Shitfit by Downset and the 9 minute version of I Luv I Jah by Cave In.

I havent checked it out yet, but I want to get a copy of the Carnivore tribute record from awhile back. Anyone know if there are any good tracks on there?

what’s a girl like you doing in a place like this?

A few years ago Slapshot played a show in New York (I think it was Syracuse) and Black SS was one of the openers. At that time I wasn’t familiar with them. I was actually distracted for almost the whole show becuse I was hitting on a girl with a Slapshot tattoo on her elbow. It ended up not working out at all, I missed all of the opening bands and the hi-light of the day was the BBQ at Chris Laurias house before we left for the show. I havent seen Black SS since that day… wicked bummer!

If the opening bid doesn’t get you then the warheads will …

I know this cd is considered “rare,” but is it REALLY that rare? And is it really THAT collectible? I just don’t see it. gibbonst87 seems to think it is. Check that opening bid. I can think of things I’d rather buy for that amount. I will give props on this line though, “Yup, it’s expensive! If John Joseph can go around dressed like a lunatic Santa in a Mall in Staten Island and ring a bell for change, I can ask a rediculous price for this CD. HA!” I don’t know what he’s referencing but would love to know. Anyone got a youtube video on this?

Also, pretty sure I just gave one of these to Naidoo. He better appreciate it! ;)

Headcheese?

jabba59 sells a lot of unlicensed bootleg horror movie soundtracks. In most cases I would think that was really lame, but I’m a huge fan of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre

This is a collection of musical score, songs and naration from the ORIGINAL Texas Chainsaw Massacre parts 1 and 2. The BIN price may be high for what it is, but its not really something you’re going to find anywhere else. I’m probably going to pick this up and add it to my TCM collection which includes a table built by propmaster Bob Burns, a spindle from the staircase in the original house and a bunch of action figures/dolls.

If you’re a Chainsaw junky (good band name?) then its worth picking up.

Happy Birthday Glenn!

Today is Glenn Danzigs 55th birthday!! This is a copy of the new Danzig CD that came out on Monday of this week. I guess technicall its Danzig IX: Deathred Sabaoth. I got it and listened to about 1/2 of it so far and its not bad. The recording is muddy but I think thats what Danzig is going for at this point. Either that or he try to keep it as cheap as possible since he puts out the stuff on his own lable. My only real compalint is all the guitar noises and harmonics and squeels. Tommy Victor (from Prong) is just to much on the guitar. I think that these songs played with the classic line up of Chuck Biscuits, Erie Von & John Christ would be great.

So here it is… you get…

1) Danzig – 7″ Single on Vinyl – On A Wicked Night on Side A. Side B is The Revengeful. Rumor has it only 2000 copies were pressed and are now sold out.
2) Danzig – Deth Red Sabaoth Cd. This is unreleased at this moment and I got this copy at the concert, which came with the following extra items
3) Danzig – On A Wicked Night Cd Single. Which has 2 songs. The radio version & the album version.
4) Danzig – Deth Red Sabaoth Sticker.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GLENN… HAVE SOME CAKE!

Not an April Fools Joke

Doesn’t this auction make you think of buying speakers out of the back of a van?

Or a VCR in a back alley?

It just seems weird to me.

Someone find out if EVR or Bane is missing a box of cds …

Ps. I LOVE this cd. The last song features Aaron’s friend from Worcester doing his noise thing. I once saw him live “in concert” at the Space in Worcester. During their set, the Tuba player was almost set on fire by the sheet metal grinder. Good times.

A Choke CD Collection for those With Deep Pockets

I like Slapshot. Saw them a few months back at Anchors Up in Haverhill. Really enjoyed myself. Same great live show.

I like Stars And Stripes. Saw them play a Back To School Jam many years ago in Framingham Mass. A fun night for sure. A great gig in general, but Stars And Stripes really notched it up.

I like Negative FX. Sadly, never saw them.

But $75 for 4 CDs is fucking brutal. $75 for 4 USED CDs is even worse. Add one without a cover and throw in $8 for fucking Parcel Post (outrageous really. Sellers like this hurt my soul), and you have a $83 auction that no one will EVER bid on.

Yo Moshua, correct me if I’m wrong, but this dude is cracked out, right?

Bane 10 Year Anniversary EP .. Or just CD

This is a funny description, at least to me.

Does not include 7″. Comes with Picture Disc CD of tracks and code to redeem vinyl. We can’t guarantee this code will work. Item is being sold AS IS.

But, the record is listed as “used.” I would HOPE or assume that whoever sold this EP … CD back to Newbury Comics kept the EP. But then again, why would they keep the EP and return the sleeve? That’s just wack.

I spent many hours stuffing all those EPs. Good times. That’s probably actually my handwriting.

The Bjork cover is ill. Get into it.
