CDs Please.

I know they’re not vinyl or anything, but distortnewyork has some cd auctions worth checking out.

Even in an age of emps, The Misfits box set I think is still a must have. Great packaging and booklet. This one still having the Fiend Club pin is a huge bonus; I put mine on my flight jacket as a teen and it quickly broke.

Haven’t some of these Another Planet cd’s gone for ridiculous amounts in the past few years? I still have my copy of this one and the Cro-mags one; the pics and essay in both are great.

Probably would be cooler if this was Blohole, just because it’s a lot harder to find that particular Gwar side project, and I always dug their song on the Slam Chops comp I had in high school.

Bootleg cd, but a lot of rare stuff on there. Already doing well for a used cd in 2011.

You can find all this stuff separately online I’m sure, but I remember when this was a real pain to hunt down, and thus treasure mine.

the long awaited MELVINS box set…

There have been rumblings about a Melvins box set for a few years now and I think most people hoped it was a vinyl box, but unfortunantly it wasnt. Actually as much as I love the Melvins, when the box set finally came out its kind of disapointing.

Its a 13 CD set that includes the albums… The Bride Screamed Murder, Nude with Boots, Senile Animal, Maggot, Bootlicker, Hostile Ambient Takeover, Pigs of the Roman Empire, Colossus of Destiny, 26 Songs, Gluey Porch Treatments, Houdini Live, Electro Retard & Mangled Demos.

The process that went into printing each CD sleeve was really labor intensive and it looks nice, but the fact that it was letterpress printed on a treadle powered hand fed antique press from the 1890s doesnt justify the price for me. In typical Melvins fashoin its super limited! Originally they were suposed to make 300 of them, but it looks like they didnt even make it that far because this one is #129 out of 222.

Not sure if holdendiane picked this up at one of the shows or if there were some left over and sold online, but I would assume that he is trying to at least double his money.

CDs that look like records.

I know that most of the people on here collect vinyl, but we all buy CDs from time to time too so seeing a CD that looks like a record is kind of cool!

bumpylogs has a copy what seems to be the often forgotten 2nd S.O.D. record ‘Bigger than the Devil’. I think that I might like this record better than the first one. The production is a little better, the songs are heavy and there is still a certain amount of comedy to them. Awesome CD and a really low price.

The CD that mainstjukebox has for sale is the 2002 ep from Some Kind of Hate. Bridge 9 did something that I thought was really cool with this CD. To try and make it more collector friendly they made the CD kind of mimick a colored vinyl 7″. The center of the CD is silver like any normal one, but they put a ring of colored plastic around the outter edge and did them in at least 2 colors (blue & purple). It must have cost to much to do again or people didnt like it because I dont think they did it on any other releases, but it made a cool effect.

*note the SKOH cd in the auction is SEALED so I dont know what color the plastic ring is. I got that picture from the B9 discography page to show the ‘colored vinyl CD’.

1 TERABYTE- Of digital metal

Some tool is selling a 1TB western digital external hard drive full of win (don’t you know that 500 GB HD’s are the most stable noob). If you have two minutes to spare hit the link and read the entire listing, it’s pretty funny. Oh, he only has 5 left so get them quick.

Lars will be knocking this dude’s door down any minute now.

*BONUS*
This reminds me of an add I used to see in the back of gun magazines advertizing a component that could make your AR-15 fully automatic (5 years in the slammer) that used the address for the BATF in Arlington. I bet they nabbed tons of folks with that one. At least they were funny enough to use their real address.

Shy Town vs The Big Apple

a couple of BINs for some rare hardcore CDs.

first up is a pair of One Life Crew CDs. You get the ‘controversial’ 1996 Victory Records debut ‘Crime Ridden Society’ and the often hated follow up from 1998 ‘American Justice’ on Too Damn Hype Records. I know its not the popular opinion, but I like the 2nd record better. Its just hysterical… in fact, I think I’m gonna listen to it right now!

Second is the 1994 Another Planet re-issue of ‘Murphys Law’ and ‘Back with a Bong’ on one CD in a cool Digipack. This was part of a series of reissues Another Planet did taking two classic hardcore records from one band and putting them on one disc with new packaging and liner notes. They did Cro-Mags, The Mob, Murphy’s Law, Warzone & Leeway… not sure if there were any others. This is actually the only Murphy’s Law CD I dont have… maybe someday!
