Ever wanted to get into Oi but you didnt know where to start? You tried looking at the B9 Oi thread but everyone just told you to listen to some dumb white power bands who aren’t even Oi. Well heres a good way to check out the classics and weed out the undesirables. All the early Oi comps in one lot by johnniec68. Oi The Album and Strength Thru Oi are the two best here, but you cant go wrong with the others either. The shipping is a little high but it is 6 LPs.
Funny sidenote about the cover of Strength Thru Oi – Thats Nicky Crane on the cover, he was head of “Skrewdriver Security”. He was also secretly gay the whole time and later came out of the closet and died of AIDS. I say its a funny sidenote because I dont give a fuck if a Nazi dies.

Oi! – The Starter Kit
Cock Sparrer – We Love You dutch p/s
They were already a band for 5 years at this point, but this is only Cock Sparrer’s second single from 1977 (their first also being from 1977). A Rolling Stones cover for a single and a B side thats a far better song, kind of a weird look. Theres 4 different picture sleeves for this single. The Dutch one offered here from renew1379 seems to be the 2nd most common. Thats not saying its easy to find because ive only seen 4 come up for sale in the past 5 years. The Italian sleeve is way rarer and the French sleeve seems to be the hardest thing on earth to find. I only HEARD a rumor of one once in 15 years ive been looking for it. If you have one let me know and you will be handsomely rewarded.
Cock Sparrer first LP
You know they had a record before Shock Troops right? It was reissued in the 80s as True Grit, but the OG was on Decca and only issued in Spain. The band had no clue it came out either and weren’t all that happy about it. There are two versions, one with white labels that was a promo edition and this blue label one which was available for sale. Ive NEVER seen a copy in the condition this is in. You have to be wary of bootlegs but this one is legit from the looks of it. 7777mike7777 says he got it when it came out. Pretty cool.
What’s It Like To Be Old?
Cock Sparrers triumphant comeback record, Shock Troops is pretty universally regarded as one of the best Oi/Punk records ever. It didn’t do so hot when it came out though which is probably why it’s pretty hard to find one of these in good shape. People have since wised up and its been pressed on vinyl by 5 different record labels in the 29 years since it first came out the latest on Pirates Press Records being my favorite of the reissues). This grey camo cover on Razor Records that catmelons69 is selling is the first press. The shipping is a little high but these hardly ever turn up in the US.
If you want to stay on the cheap and go for the quality reissue, durtymickstore has you covered.
Test Press Tuesday: True To Yourself/Guilty As Charged.
A pair of Cock Sparrer test presses for the second post on what is shaping up to be a jam packed Test Press Tuesday. The first is a test of their 2008 ep on tko_records, and the second is an original Bitzcore test press of Guilty As Charged, once again courtesy of Cooch’s buddy misfou. Cock Sparrer is still on my list of bands I really, really need to see, so hopefully they actually play the East Coast some time soon; seems like they’re always over on the West Coast…
German Cock Sparrer Test Presses.
Cooch’s friendly German seller misfou is another one who must have worked for a record label; in this case, Bitzcore. Almost every thing he has up is a Bitzcore repress, including these three Cock Sparrer test presses:
My friend Lynn is seeing Cock Sparrer in Vegas at the end of the month. I am ridiculously jealous.
Runnin’ Riot BIN
I think I’ve said this before on here, but I’ll say it again… this is imo the all time best punk rock picture sleeve, it’s just so f’n cool looking. For reasons that I don’t exactly remember, this and a couple other early Cock Sparrer records were released as promos in Spain and Portugal, and as you can imagine they are nearly impossible to track down compared to their respective UK versions (not that the UK version is all that easy to get either).
COCK SPARRER – Shock Troops LP orig
First off, I just want to say that punk took a big blow this week with the passing of Bruce Rhoers. I only ever met him briefly a couple of times, but he was one of the nicest guys you’d ever meet and he went out of his way to be friendly to pretty much anyone. More here http://maximumrocknroll.com/2010/03/17/bruce-roehrs-1950-2010/
So here’s an original Razor Records pressing of Cock Sparrer’s legendary second LP. This is about as anthemic a record as you can get and there’s not a bad track to be had (yes, I do like “Out On An Island”) on the entire record. I had the honor of playing a show with these guys in Texas last year, and it was pretty fucking awesome to hear 1,000+ people singing along from the first note of “Riot Squad” right up to the last note of the set. At some points it seemed like the crowd was louder than the band, it was just that energetic of a show. Not much else to say other than if you don’t like this record, your ears must be broken.
COCK SPARRER – Runnin’ Riot 7″ promo sleeve
Cock Sparrer’s legendary first single. Most of the time this record turns up without a sleeve, but if you’re lucky enough to stumble into one of these rare promo copies (issued in the UK, Spain and Portugal) you get this great picture sleeve of footie fans triumphantly invading the pitch.
This copy is still going pretty cheap so this could be a nice score for you to impress all the skinbirds with at the next scooter rally.
