Through Being Cool

When was the last time you checked in on Kyle’s blog, Seeking The Simple? If you haven’t lately, you are fucking it up. He just upped an intense set of Saves The Day records (plus a few others, keep watching through out the day). He’s been unloading his vinyl for months now, getting out of the game, if you will. To tie it in with the post title, there is a sort of “cool” factor associated with owning some records. Is it really or perceived? I would say perceived everyday. Perhaps Kyle has got there too. Make sure you check out his Saves The Day post as he gets into stories. Feelin it.

REACH THE SKY!

I always wonder why someone is selling a collection when they are selling a ton of records from one band. It must mean that the band is or was their favorite so what changed? Are they having huge money problems and need cash quick? Do they hate the band now? What is it that made them sell?

A friend of mine had a HUGE Misfits collection including tests, acetates, all the original 7″s, an Evil Live 3 pack numbered by Glenn. He had almost everything there was to have and he just decided to sell it all.

If anyone knows broken_dreams or of they post here maybe we can find out why he’s selling his Reach The Sky collection.

How do you store your records??

Right now my records are in Ikea Expedit Series Bookshelves. They are about $90 each and basicly 8 13″x13″ cubes all stuck together so there are 8 sections that all fit records. I know someone that has a monster one with 25 $199) sections thats filled, but you gotta screw that one to the wall to avoid potential issues!

Anyway, not sure how I found this on eBay, but I thought it was pretty cool until I saw the price…. $260 (+$53.29 shipping) is pretty insane. I asked the seller a few questions and sent the auction to a friend.

The seller said “The LPBIN is made using all 3/4″ industrial strength MDF. The finish is a synthetic laminate (not real wood) that is very durable. it is 44″ high, 22″ deep & 28.5″ wide. The bin will hold 560 LPs.”

My friend said, “We can build two of those for less than $100 worth of wood and I’ll do most of the work.”

I said “Thank you”

I’m thinking about having him make one of them a little wider and putting in a seperator so that it has 1 row for 12″ records and then 2 rows for 7″ records. Once I get these built I’m sure I can find another use for my Ikea shelves.
