THIS IS PHOENIX NOT THE CIRCLE JERKS

Since its almost Halloween time I figured I would post an auction from hauntedtownrecords! Of course the record has nothing to do with Halloween and its to early to start posting only Misfits vinyl!

I’m actually posting this becuase its an old comp that I’ve never seen and it has a cool name. Doing a parody or tribute of an old record is an everyday thing now, but it seems like most bands did their own thing back in the day, but this comp is clearly a nod to ‘This is Boston, Not LA’.

I dont know the back story, but maybe Placebo Records had an issue with the Circle Jerks? Does anyone know? Anwyay, cool name aside you get tracks from JFA, Mighty Sphincter, Solent Greene (not Soilent Green) and a few others.

Cleanse The Bacteria

Another nice one from robase, a long time want list topper…

This comp is basically the who’s who of international 80s hardcore — Poison Idea, Mob 47, Siege, The Execute, 7 Seconds and so many more. Almost too many though, as this record runs like 60 minutes total and sounds a little thin as a result. But who cares, when it has the only properly released Siege tracks, a trio of absolute paint peelers. The bonus 12″ adds some extra songs by some of the bands, including my all time favorite COC song, “Prayer”.

Supposedly there are 1000 copies on orange with the bonus 12″ (which is exclusive to the orange press). That number seems a little high, as they don’t turn up much, but who knows. It’s too bad this will never be reissued.

More cool comps

Morgado’s arch ebay nemesis natalia112345 is back again, and the prices are a little more down to earth this time.

Here are a few cool comps with some notable tunes on them, all nice and cheap…

1. A Generation of Hope 7″
Great comp of late 80′s harder edge bands. Best Confront song, everyone’s favorite Chain song, and the only studio track released on vinyl by the almighty Pushed Aside. If you haven’t heard Pushed Aside’s demo, do yourself a favor and grab the 7″ reissue from a few years back on Indecision.

2. In-Effect Sampler cassette
This was released as a promo for current and upcoming records on In-Effect. This comp is cool because it has the only ever officially released songs from Sick Of It All’s demo tape, and has a couple of songs from the legendary Raw Deal demo. A steal at only 99¢!

3. Chop Chop 7″
Decent Bad Trip song on side A, but this comp is really worth getting for the A-Bomb-A-Nation tracks at the end, which although they are live, are (sort of) the only vinyl output from this seriously underrated NYHC band. There’s another comp ep with them playing live on WFMU radio (which is AWESOME), but 450+ of the 500 copies made have been sitting in a basement in NJ for the past 15+ years.

Why Are We Here? (BIN)

Since there’s been some recent hype around Corrosion Of Conformity getting back together with the Animosity era lineup, this post is about 2% more relevant than my usual obscuro-core ramblings.

Here’s COC’s first vinyl appearance, a 4-way split of North Carolina bands. The other bands—No Labels, Stillborn Christians and Bloodmobile—are pretty ripping too, and for the most part this comp is their only proper release.

LOCKJAW Dead Friends 7″++

A while back I posted the first Lockjaw ep, and here’s the second. Musically this sounds pretty much exactly like the first ep, and imo this one’s harder to find, so jump on this if you’re a fan. Skinhead hardcore at its finest!

Also from the same seller is the Drinking Is Great 7″ comp, with tracks by Poison Idea, Lockjaw, E-13 and Final Warning. Aside from Poison Idea, this comp is the only other material released on vinyl by these bands. I’ve posted records by all of those bands before, so if you’re unfamiliar, click the Fatal Erection tag below.

These and a bunch of other good records are being sold by my man Mitch SXE, Japanese tour promoter extraordinaire and the first guy I ever traded records with in Japan.

Not so discount shopping…

I think that thevonroyale might not necessarily want to sell his records.

Well he does. But the way that anyone would sell almost anything. What’s that old adage? “Everyone has their price.”

Maybe you think that this record is worth $40. Me? I’d rather see this in the used record bin of the local record store for $10 (MAYBE) from some thrashcore retiree’s recently abandoned record collection.

For people who haven’t given up on fast, angry music yet, the HISTERIA compilation has some hits. Deathreat never fails. The Life’s Halt tracks were good, but not their best. As memory serves the rest of the comp didn’t live up to the (at the time) hype, but it’s a worthy  purchase for any diehard. However, $40 is a bit steep. Even for the harder to find red vinyl. Generally speaking, most of the limited vinyl from Lengua Armada was only available through direct mailorder and was claimed before word necessarily hit the general public, but I remember tracking this down without too much difficulty.

Trying to find this record in 2010? Although I would rather try to get this from someone who’s new music collection is all Grizzly Bear and Pitchfork reviews for pennies on the dollar, that may not be an option for you.
