It’s In Your Head…Hole Punch!

Sometimes you just have to settle.
Life is like that. We all can’t afford the best of everything or buy things we want immediately just because we want them. You compromise. You weigh shit out and make the best decision for where you are at that time.

discdog has a fourth press of the Minor Threat “Filler” 7″ up for grabs that is far from collector quality which should keep the price down and not break the bank if you want to make a move on it.

This sucker has its problems. For starters, there is a decent sized hole in the cover that looks as big as a hole punch. Next, the lyric sheet is missing. Finally, (and not that big a deal) the glue holding the cover together has come loose. Some might see that as a positive because now they can see the “Flex Your Head” quote in the fold. To each his own.

These reasons alone will keep the heavy hitters away so that you should be able to score it for not much more than it is sitting at now. Not a bad deal if having one is good enough and let’s face it, we all want one.

State Of Alert – No Policy ep

Just a few hours to go on this piece of DC hardcore history. Dischord #2, S.O.A – No Policy EP.

It’s not often you will find a No Policy 7″ in its last day for under $100. It’s also not often you see a cover in such good shape. Damn, I’m jealous. Mine is beat to shit. The thin paper stock they used is one step up from newsprint. You have to handle the cover like it is part of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

selectroburner has a good looking third press with the drawn in Black Flag bars on Rollins’ arm and the State Of Alert name on the label.

Definitely nothing to sneeze at. Just don’t sneeze at the cover, it might tear.

Double O TPThurs.

Ex-Extorts guitarist “housatonic” has been leaking some pretty cool stuff out of his collection lately. I can’t say this is one of my favorites in the harDCore canon — imo this record occupies a spot somewhere in the murky depths of “good but not great” DC stuff like the Iron Cross 7″ers or the Artificial Peace/Exiled split — but as we all know, rarity often trumps quality in the realm of test press collecting. That being said, Double O has a couple of really great demo tapes, which would make for a nice archival release on Dichord (nudge nudge, wink wink).

SOA for TPT

Here’s a nice slice of wax from housatonic, aka ex-Meatmen guitarist Lyle Preslar.

Normally I think test press collecting is pretty boring, though I do think it’s cool when they come with proper sleeves and inserts — it makes them slightly more desirable in my book. What’s not cool though (for me anyways) is when my friend scored one of these for $25 off a craigslist ad in Boston a couple years ago. I did nab a Black Market Baby 7″ test press off the same ad though for $10, so all was not lost (read more about that later).

Note: the black vinyl copy I posted a week or two ago ended at $350. Naysayerz be damned (this means you “chris”).

Minor Threat Monday

Do you own the Minor Threat 7″ already? You probably should have at least one copy if you call yourself a record collector. straightray can hook you up with second coolest pressing of this straight edge classic. He describes some oily stains on the cover of the record which i feel like I’ve seen on a few copies before. Maybe the band was eating some Pizza Mart when putting together the records.

If you want to play it a littler safer with your wallet you can go after this blue cover copy that notorious German lostandfound_de has.

Subject to My America

Kind of a weird little 2-fer here courtesy of brodies… I’m not quite sure why he wouldn’t just sell them separately given the nature of the rest of his auctions (not to mention these records have absolutely nothing in common other than they are both hardcore bands), but maybe someone can sneak in the back door and get a deal on these. Lots are good for that kind of thing.

Late night lot for emo Monday

Though I wouldn’t really call this an “emo” lot, it’s got some in there, along with some screamo, and that just… I dunno… whatever you want to call that stuff Dischord was doing in the 90′s. Just call it music. Whatever. Also, some regular 90′s hardcore too… just check the pic! Another interesting listing from malaika279 with not too too much time left.  Get in on it, maybe you can scoop for just a buck a record?

Fugazi, Groundwork, Gyga, 90 Day Shake Ray Turbine, Born Against, Julia, Zeni Geva (Comic Book Book & Record set), The Metroschifter, Keleton DMD, Not for the Lack of trying, The Trans Megetti, Merel, Lync, WIG, Monster X, Aloha, Cyclops, Neanderthal, Sleepy Time Trio, Chino Horde, Armstrongs Secret Mine, Golden, ….and more!

Hardcore essentials

A couple of top shelf rippers courtesy of robase

I saw these in person at the WFMU fair last month and I have to say that while these records are second pressings, I would throw down on them without question (if I didn’t have them already), as both are CLEAN AS FUCK — especially the SOA.

Also it’s cool that NA always cited SOA as a major influence, so you can grab one of the best HC 7″s ever and the record behind the record in one fell swoop.
