SUPERBOWL SUNDAY: Thicker than water

The first time I saw H2O they were opening for CIV at the Tune Inn in the mid90s. sunra2000818 is selling a pink vinyl LP that came out in 1997. I remember this being a big deal because H2O was the first east coast band on Epitaph.

The Boy’s a TIME BOMB

‘Time Bomb’ was the first song I’ve ever heard by Rancid. I was in 9th grade and it and Sublime’s, (whatever song it was about being ‘buttraped by a large cell-mate’), ruled ‘alternative’ radio in the mid 1990′s for “Ska”. When I first heard it I didn’t really know what to think of it, I kind of liked it I guess, but I really had no reference point for it. Anyway, I didn’t become a Rancid fan until  later when I was in 10th grade, and I still like their first 3 albums, but I’m far from a superfan. This auction is for those.

This is the ‘Time Bomb’ single I have for sale, and I think someone else will appreciate much more than I. Don’t know the pressing info, but I think its fairly rare, I’ve only seen it once (although I’m not exactly hunting for Rancid vinyl) and that was when I bought it. Check it out. This is the US pressing on Epitaph (there was another pressing licensed to a British label). This EP also features the song “Blast ‘Em” which was unreleased when this came out.

The Offspring — For Emil

Emil came down on me the other day for posting up some Blink-182 LPs. That’s ok. That’s his right. He can say whatever he wants. I appreciate his comments, actually. Sadly, we don’t do this blog just for him. We do it for LOTS of people. People with very different taste. Take Cooch and myself. The intersection of music tastes is probably not that big in the scope of things. Do you think Cooch is listening to Tigers Jaw right now? Very unlikely. But you know what? If we were doing this blog just for Emil, I’d be posting up items from The Offspring all the time. Lets do that now. Thankfully, xxxevilxxx666 from Japan has a slew of the LPs up now. How fortuitous.

Personally, I only really got into Smash. I listen to it maybe once a month, and think it has still stood up. But of course, it was a time and place album for me. I would listen to this with my brother on the way to shows back in the day so you can see the sentimental value of it. I can’t recall the last time I attended a gig with my brother … Possibly over 10 years ago. Yeeks.

So this one is for Emil. Have at it dude.

For God And Country

Amusing story time.

One time I flew to New Orleans with my friend Mike. We had made plans to chill with a NBD all week in his college town. Definitely a good time was had by all.

When he came to pick the two of us up, it dawned on us that he drove a BMW Z3. For those not in the know, this is a soft top, 2 door sports car. Sadly, it only has TWO seats. So that’s 3 people, two seats. We chucked our stuff in the trunk and drove back to his house.

At the VERY FIRST light we stopped at, a car full of jocks pulled up next to us and started calling us out. I suppose they had that right. 3 dudes in a 2 seater is awfully awkward looking. I think Mike was going to fight them, but Rod calmed him down.

Later that night, while driving around listening to Good Riddance (which I mistook for Bad Religion because I had never heard Good Riddance before), Mike suddenly had the incredible urge to drop a deuce. Granted, we are in the middle of New Orleans, nowhere near our friend’s house. So Rod is driving around, really egging Mike on. Lots of sudden stops and accelerations. Of course, I’m sitting with Mike who is about to explode. He’s getting livid. Finally, Rod finds a beat to shit gas station. Mike runs in to find it’s a quaint bathroom that clearly abuts the main service area. He’s in there doing his thing and the whole time, the gas station crew is making fun of him, “Oh man, one time I really had to shit …” “I hate it when I have to shit so bad …” Good times.

Epitaph color vinyl seems hard to come by. I never really see it up on ebay or available anywhere. I believe this one is a first pressing and limited to under 700. Shout outs to @CountMeOut.

Merry Christmas, H20

It’s not Christmas, but this is a Christmas story.

Every year, my wife asks me what I want for Christmas. Every year, I say the same 4 items.

1. Crucial Records
2. Crucial gear
3. Nike air maxes
4. Sweatpants & Polo gear

Over the years, the order has changed a bit. The list above is probably the original listing. Lately, nikes and crucial gear are pushed up higher. Usually, she rolls her eyes and shrugs. And usually picks out very nice shirts and things I love.

A bunch of years ago (more than 10, I think), she braved ebay for me. It was super unexpected and I loved that she would do that for me. The effort put forth to get me “crucial records” was better than any crucial records she may have purchased.

But what she did get me was the H20 S/T Lp on clear. Great LP. It’d be even better with about 6 less skits. It still gets a shit ton of spins from me. Up the #PMA.
