Boston had a pretty good run of hardcore zines in the early 80s, between Forced Exposure, xXx and Suburban Voice. Early issues of FE might be the most legendary, since after 5 issues of full-on hardcore coverage, they switched over to mostly underground/experimental/noisy type stuff, leaving these early issues in short supply and high demand. Not to mention the content is killer, so they command a pretty good price.
So here’s #5, from 1982. Due to the Misfits content, this one usually gets plenty of fiendish bidding. The ‘Fits interview is pretty classic in its own right though — lots of shit talk on the Dead Kennedys and Maximumrocknroll, funny fight stories, and Glenn talking about making videos: “We want heads to explode and blood. How are they (MTV) going to show that?” (note: the “smudging” referred to in the auction is a print defect on all copies, so don’t let that discourage you)
Also short interviews with Youth Brigade, the Effigies, DOA, Kilslug and DYS. The DYS interview is hilarious and has some classic lines like “Dave likes the Exploited, he’s a loser” and “We must have it known that DYS is not a fag band” (and pics of Dave Smalley with liberty spikes). Also a good shit talking editorial on NYHC, lots of LOL’s.
