One afternoon in my teens I was jammin “Blood, Sweat, And No Tears” by SOIA on a spring afternoon before band practice and my neighbors son knocked on my door. He had seen me wearing a Smorgasboard shirt one day while I was skating and he put it together that I was really into hardcore when he heard my alleyway dj skills waking up the neighborhood. My neighbors son was involved in CBGB’s sunday matinees when he was my age in the 1980′s and he felt that I would enjoy the tapes much more since he had moved on to fancying Interpol and the art life (which is cool, I dig that life as well). The bag was bursting out the seems with hardcore. It had a bunch of mixtapes made by his friends from the L.E.S, and then the jackpot at the very bottom which included a SOIA demo, Outburst demo, Bustin Out Demo, Our Gang demo, and Uppercut demo.

How cool is that? Solid neighbor. My neighbor is a grumpy old ex-marine. Pretty sure he’s never been into the core. Sad.
