With a little less than 2 days left on these auctions, I’m surprised these auctions haven’t been posted yet. Seller housatonic has up for auction two early Dischord releases; Number 4 and Number 6 in release order. Number 4 being the Government Issue’s Legless Bull E.P. and number 6 being the DC Youth Brigade’s – Possible E.P. I won’t butcher a description of the first of the two E.P’s , so I will leave it to Norbie Ugly of the December 1981 Ripper Fanzine to praise the record and the Dischord label at the time

“Just after I stopped beating off about how great the S.O.A. and Minor Threat EPs were, I got hold of this mandatory piece of plastic. Words fail me when I try to sing praises of this label- they’ve put out not one, not two, but four and a half absolutely fucking excellent megasong singles this year, with another Minor Threat EP and a few more gems to cum in the near future. Anyway, this record does nothing to destroy the harDCore tradition with anthems like “Religious Ripoff,” “Fashionite,” “Rock’n'Roll Bullshit,” “Anarchy is Dead” (face facts), “Bored to Death” and “No Rights” thrashing within its grooves. These guys can cram so much song into thirty seconds it’s ridiculous. How much more can I say?”

I favor the Government Issue – Legless Bull E.P. over the Youth Brigade release, but that is not too shed any less light on Number 6 of the early Dischord discography. Youth Brigade DC is definitely a slower feel to the earlier Dischord releases. Who can deny the reverbed bass intro and the slow hard beating of the drums in the beginning of “Barbed Wire”. So many classics on both of these releases.

These two records are similar in its pressing because they had an original and only pressing of 1000 records. The other early pressings of the Dischord first six had at least 2000 pressed with different variations between pressings. Check out these listings, they will definitely be shooting up in price in the last few hours of the auction.

Sure, the auctions are only for 5 days, but the gig starts, officially, on Thursday night. Friday night if your from really far out of town. His auctions, as of now, have just under 3.5 days to go. That means, these items won’t end until some point Friday night. Probably around dinner time in Philly. Not sure how these funds will help him them. Once you have a gander at some of these awesome boston hardcore items he has, you’ll know what I mean. We’ll start off with his his early Converge EP gems. You are getting some good shit with these.

S/T EP. You’ve got to go way back to get this one. Foundation America Records. Not a lot of these floating around.

Unloved And Weeded Out EP. #177. Hot. Seller mentions something about a “color backing.” I’ve never heard this one. Can someone confirm? Tre?

Petitioning The Empty Sky EP. Ferret #3. This one goes back some ways. I can dig it.

Y2K EP on clear vinyl. There were 1000 of these made, and I feel like there was a time where you couldn’t give these away. There are 1000 of these records. That’s a LOT. I recall dudes thinking of cashing in and buying a few to flip. Granted this was 1999 / 2000. The ebay flipping market isn’t what it is today … They usually sold for what they bought them for. BUT NOW, but now, it seems to be a hit. Get into it. 3 cover songs. Vio-lence, Black Sabbath and The Cure. Not bad.

Soundtrack To The Revolution EP on gold vinyl. Now we are talking. Converge, Bound, Knockdown and … Chokehold?? Canada is not Massachusetts, but we’ll let this slide. This gets you a little bit of everything, Massachusetts-wise. Shout outs to Knockdown. If anyone has the Behind The Eightball demo, get at me. I NEED this one. Who wrote that dust sleeve message?

I was told that if I didn’t post up this EP, my Worcester Hardcore Crew card was going to be pulled. I didn’t want that. I mean, I’m not a Kanteralis brother or Jeff Hunter or Felicia, but I cut my teeth in Worcester. I lived there for 6 years during what some would consider the high life in Worcester. That’s got to count for something.

When I moved into Worcester, some of the first kids I hung out with were in a band called Barrit. They all lived at 34 John St. At the time, it was just two floors, the 2nd and 3rd floor. But after a few months, all the Barrit kids moved out of the Acapulco building (now Tortilla Sams) and into the first floor of John St. Those were wild dudes having wild times. But you know what, no one in Barrit even lived there, as I recall. Pete and Zach lived away. Lou lived with his girl down the street, Steve lived across town (which at the time, felt like it was a million miles away). I have no idea where Nate lived … Andy hadn’t joined the band yet, but he didn’t live nearby either. Thing is, everyone was always there. And I mean everyone. The first floor was mayhem. People were in and out of that place at all hours. Most stories aren’t appropriate for the internet –you’ll have to use your imagination. I’ll tell you this, when those dudes moved out, you could see hammer impressions in every wall. And I’m not talking hammer heads, or claw heads. I’m talking about profile shots of hammers. Full impression of claw, head and handle. Intense. Plus, when I was dirt poor, those dudes always had tons of peanut butter. Like jars and jars. Over 5 open ones, for sure. I would go down and steal some. It kept me from starving. I liked that. I ended up seeing Barrit 4 times in my life, but sadly, none of them were the typical ridiculous shows. I didn’t catch the WPI show, which was probably the craziest show. It involved lots of time setting shit up, fucking around and then later, lots of broken stuff. Barrit was famous for that.

Maybe deathwishinc can chime in with a story or two. He lived on the 2nd floor for a few months during this crazy time period (of course, you know it was 1998. Best year ever?). I bet he was at the Worcester gig too. And despite hawks eating panther meat, Tre is a good dude. He probably traded all his Wormtown pride for Witchtown pride, though … Wait, does anyone have Wormtown pride?

A couple of months ago a friend and I went to the This is Hardcore fest in Philly mainly to see Sheer Terror, eat some cheesesteaks and meet up with some people. We were hanging out a little before the show started and checking out the merch tables when we came upon a table that had a line literally 5-6 people deep! Neither of us were tall enough to see over any of the people so we kinda got in line to see what the hell all these people wanted to buy and when I finally got close enough to see, I immediatly recognized the bright red shirt with the Tazmanian Devil artwork as being…. The Rival Mob!

As far as I could see they were not selling anything as good as these auctions, but it didnt really matter because I had alread spent my money on a Sheer Terror shirt anyway.

Up first is the Bitter Rivals 2007 demo 7″ on Tripple B Records. In this lot you get 1st press clear green vinyl limited to only 100 copies and the 1st press black vinyl limited to 400. Also included is a 2nd press on clear orange limited to 200.

Heres 3 versions of the Six Feet Under Records ‘Hardcore for Hardcore’ 7″. You get the purple vinyl limited to 900, the yellow vinyl limited to 350 and the super limited black at only 150 copies.

Lockin’ Out ‘Raw Life’ LP on gold vinyl limited to 300 and on black vinly limited to 700. This one is funny to me because its exactly the same colors as the Slapshot ‘Digital Warfare’ LP, but in the opposit numbers. B9 did 700 gold and only 300 black for the Slappy record.

A few months ago on one of my weekly trips to Armageddon Shop in Providence Chris (one of the owners) recomended a 7″ they had recently gotten in by a Boston band called Battle Ruins. Since Chris had suggested a bunch of awesome stuff in the past I was going to buy it, but then he realized that it was sold out. The following week I headed back in and this time Ben (the other owner) was working and without knowing that Chris had already mentioned it, Ben suggested that I pick up the Battle Ruins single which was now back in stock! He put it on and the combo of Boston style hardcore, American OI and Motorhead style metal was awesome so I grabbed it that day!

Not long after that I found a review for the record up at www.emptyhandspvd.com/2010/05/battle-ruins-7-review.html and the person that wrote it had exactly the same experience with Chris recomending it and he loved it as well.

The moral of this story is that… 1 you should check out the review, 2 you should buy this record. 2, you should shop at Armageddon Shop in Providence, RI (and coming to soon to Harvard Square in Boston)
