SUPERBOWL SUNDAY: Under the Knife

Continuing with the theme of Superbowl Sunday: Here is the classic 1996 7″ from Hatebreed currently offered the minuscule price of $3.99 from huntermass. Here is another record that if it isn’t already in your collection, you probably won’t get another chance to add it this cheap.

Who would win in a fight, Hatebreed or Integrity?

Here is an oldie but a goodie from recordgraveyard. This green vinyl from Stillborn records is a real trip down memory lane. I’ve seen both of these bands a bunch of times, but its been years and years for both of them. Yet I still remember when this record came out.

I Won’t Live My Life…..without this 7-inch.

Man. Forget current reality and what this band’s done since the late 90′s. This 7″ and “Satisfaction…” are some mean, mean jams. I still listen to them probably a lot more than a man my age should. If you like HEAVY metal at all you can’t hate this. Just crushing! redscrollstore has the white vinyl pressing out of 500. It’s not the most rare but still pretty cool. I think Jamey Jasta once said that when starting Hatebreed they wanted to be like Negative Approach meets Obituary! Haha. You and many around the world are moshing.

Bonus story: I worked in an adult foster care facility for mentally ill people for almost 4 years and we had a resident, a kid that could be described as “nu metal”, and he would listen to “Satisfaction…” on his walkman all the time and sing along out loud while doing finger points. He seemed pretty surprised when he found out I knew what he was listening to.

Integrihate BIN + Strife bonus BIN

I ALMOST wanna say $20 is too much for this but maybe not since I recently sold the black version of it at a store I work at to someone for $12. I don’t know. But, I think this looks pretty on green vinyl and you gotta give props to the sellers username big_takeover

He also has this cool Strife – ‘My Fire Burns’ BIN for $8. Limited to 175, he says. I am satisfied with my version of this on black, but if you don’t have one, I think it could be a deal!

Satisfaction Is The Start Of Test Press Tuesday.

We saw a ton of Victory test presses from seller repjack111 a couple Test Press Tuesday’s ago, and there was a notable exception: no Satisfaction Is The Death of Desire test press. That’s been resolved, but alas Test Press Tuesday only came in for the last few hours…

Jasta 14. Sans Jasta.

You’d think redbeard6 would mention the most important factoid about this record:

That factoid of course is that this was Jamey’s band before Hatebreed, hence the long standing sobriquet of Jamey Jasta. Of course, Jamey didn’t sing on this, and I don’t think it’s good as the demo he DID sing on, but still, if you’re gonna include Hatebreed in your title, then it’s probably worth a mention.

Does anyone collect cassettes anymore?

Ahh the poor cassette. It seems that she has gone the way of the BetaMax and VHS. Hopefully a few of you still have a tape deck in your car and can give these a good home.
Hatebreed “Under The Knife” demo

Sick Of It All “Just Look Around” cassette

Youth Of Today “CCME” cassette

Biohazard demo(with a song called “Master Race”) Yikes.

Western Mass Hardcore

Seller buyyvinyl outta Italy has a shit-ton of random hardcore 7″s for sale, looks like a little something for everyone. Here are a couple I’m sure no one is familiar with (except Bob Shedd and the Alert guys if they are reading this).

Back in the late 80′s/early 90′s, my friend Mark ran a label called Community Chest Records out of Southwick, Mass. If you look at a map of Massachusetts, Southwick is a little pimple on the butt of MA that sticks into northern Connecticut. I’m from the next town north Westfield (aka the Bestfield) and we always considered Southwick to be the Shelbyville to our Springfield, and hoped that one day Southwick would be annexed to CT. But I digress…

There was very little punk/hc vinyl coming out of Western Mass up to this point (you can count all the early 80s records on one hand), then Community Chest came along and put out 10 or so records. Unfortunately the seller does not have the first CCR release, Wishful Thinking’s Rise To Surprise 7″, which is my personal favorite, but here are #’s 2 and 3.

Back Again compilation 7″
Nine(!) bands on one 7″… G-Man start things off with a youthy sxe number, followed by Wishful Thinking who did a great mix of ’82-core and youth crew stuff, pretty standard hardcore tracks from 4C Club, PCP (pre-Pushbutton Warfare), Anal Fist (great song, don’t let the name fool you) and Malcontent, a hard mosher from Bloodbath (seemingly everyone’s favorite band on this record, total Breakdown/Raw Deal style moshingcore, singer Bruce went on to 100 Demons, bassist Paul is in Shadows Fall, and drummer Jamie did a short stint in Hatebreed), and a couple of not so great weirdocore tracks from Rumblepuppy (freaturing Colin Sears from Dag Nasty on drums) and Last Breath. Unfortunately Bloodbath never released the 7″ that was mentioned in the insert, but they did reissue the 7″ tracks on the end of a Pushbutton Warfare cd about 10 years ago, so all is not lost. Maybe someday guitarist Karl will come out of his cranky old man cave and let me press the demos on an LP. Probably not though.

Useless trivia: the cover shot is taken in an alley in downtown Northampton, MA. In the background is a piece of graffiti that proclaims “ANARCY”, which everyone LOL’d at EVERY time you saw it. I remember there was a Dinosaur Jr interview in Rolling Stone that said something to the effect of the band being from “Northampton, Mass, where the graffiti artists need to learn how to spell”. I think the last time I was home it was covered, I was slightly heartbroken.

G-Man Youth Shock Brigade 7″
The third CCR release after the comp is G-Man’s very own ep, which came on black and clear vinyl. I think black was first press and clear was second, but don’t quote me on that. Four songs of good youth crewey hardcore verging on the post youth crew thing — Pressure Release is a good point of comparison imo. I believe the singer Noah did some time in that band Prema that had an ep on EVR.

Under The Knife

Under The Knife is one of those seminal albums from Connecticut. Like the X Marks The Spot comp, the Join The Fight ep and the Can’t Close My Eyes ep, this album was above and beyond anything else that was coming out at the time. It stood out. It was different. And unlike the records I mentioned previously, this one was HARD. Seriously hard. Smash Your Enemies, Kill An Addict, Under The Knife & Filth. All ragers. All hard hitting. Connecticut would never look back to those crucial youth, Anthrax moments. After this EP dropped, CT got hard. And that’s not all terrible …

Peep the BIN from vinyl-n-more13. And if that BIN isn’t for you, grab the more expensive one. Not sure why you would want to do that, but the option is yours.

Hatebreed Splits!

trashamericanstyle is still pumping out vinyl gems like crazy! I never went to the store when it was open, but damn I’m sorry I didnt!!

Heres a couple of SUPER rare Hatebreed split 7″s

first up, a split with Neglect on yellow vinyl that is hand numbered on the labels saying “AUTHENTICALLY DAMAGED #2/10″. Usually the yellow vinyl is a clear yellow and is said to be of 102 copies. In addition to having the hand writing on the labels this one is a solid opaque yellow. Anyone got any more info?

Next we have a split with Integrity on purple vinyl. The auction says they remember Jamie bringing these into the store to sell and saying there were only 15 done on purple vinyl. Someone at the store tucked them away and over the years the Hatebreed discography has said that the purple vinyl was limited to only 11 copies. Perhaps they forgot the ones that Jamie brought to Trash American Style? Well the folks at Trash wrote up the story and numbered each addition insert of 4 so this is either 1 of 4 or 1 of 15, but its an REALLY rare Hatebreed/Integrity record either way!

Clevo Sucks

The Right Brigade EP. Great little album here. It came in a few different pressings from Stillborn Records (that’d be Jamey Jasta’s label, yo). Some on pink, some on white. This one is on white wax has the limited edition “Clevo Sucks” cover, numbered 38 of 38.

Say what you want, but Clevo is a pretty cool guy.

“Clevo Sucks” chants are funny**, but you know it, and I know it, he’s a good egg.

To this day, I still have never listened to the LP.
