Today, I learned something new. Death By Stereo is still a band. Apparently they just signed a new contract with a new label. Who’d have guessed? Thank you GlueHC for fulfilling my hardcore news void. Wow. Death By Stereo. I haven’t seen them play a gig in over 10 years. Think about that. I got to shows pretty frequently (for an old man). Maybe 2-3 a month, on a slow month. And I can’t say I even have HEARD of any Death By Stereo gigs in the area. Weird. This EP being sold by bexxdacatt probably came out right as I stopped seeing them. Double weird.

Collateral Damage
itsxdead says “band f’n rules so bid hard” and I think he is right. Band was, among others, at the time past, present and future members of Blackspot, Farside, Gameface and John Henry Holiday. An early Indecision Records release from ’94 (IND03) that gets overlooked I think. Hard driving nyhc… from SoCal, similar to xChorusx. This is the blue wax out of 271. Good lyrics too, esp. “Nation”. They went on to release another 7″ on New Age.
This reminds me, I should watch the Arnold movie by the same name, because I love Ahhnold.
Count Yourself In
Yo, OK so shorestyle00 used a shitty stock picture, but I’ve dealt with him before and shit was dope. Here he has a pretty good deal, I think. The Count Me Out “110″ LP for $17 bucks BIN. There is really no reason why you shouldn’t spend $17 on this LP if you like this band and don’t have it. That’s like about the price of one pizza, and this is better. Someone just buy this.
Kill, this pain….
No, I’m not referring to over-eating at Thanksgiving, but I do hope everyone had a good holiday! I’m talking about this Undertow 7″ on Indecision. This was my first Undertow record, it was the record that got me into the band and it continues to still be my favorite Undertow record. Even though this is not a “real” record in the sense that it’s a collection of comp tracks, I think it happens to be some of their best songs musically as well as lyrically (esp. ‘Kill’ and ‘Everything’) and they come together really well on this EP. “Kill” is monumental, the Embrace cover sounds really natural, and fits it really well lyrically too, “Everything” and “Never” are great songs, can’t lose here! I forget where each song is from, but ‘Building’ is from “Words To Live By”, the Embrace covers LP, which was Trustkill Record’s first release (co-released with Watermark).
This version is the orange out of 345 and is the only colored variant, yeggin is offering a decent BIN with a bidding option.
No Runners XXX
I remember getting this back when it came out and being super into it, and I still love it. It was also one of the first records I bought at Extreme Noise when I moved to Minneapolis to go to the U of M. I think this is their best release. Really good lyrics here too, “Drug Free Adult” is a great song. Also, love the Faith cover, and I still have never heard the Sex Pistols (!) cover, since I never owned the CD version of this (yeah I know, the internets). Some of the best straight edge hardcore from the 2000′s. Although their post-Rob Moran LP fell short.
Make an offer to jakenotrake and get a deal on this!
The Purple Dawn
I was working at our record store back when this came out and Karl from Holding On came in, grabbed it and was like “dude you gotta listen to this”. The rest was history. SF quickly became one of my favorite bands and I still love them. For me this ties with their farewell 7″ as their best release. This is the ltd. version on purple. Even the regular version goes for money these days. This doesn’t have much time left, no dormir!
What kind of a name is deekymutombo ?
Boston / East Coast heads probably saw them dozens of times, but the only time I did was in Chicago with Bane and The Promise. It was in some bigger club, and I remember standing in the line outside and some younger kids behind us asked what Suicide File sounded like, I don’t remember exactly what I said but I am pretty my friend and I stumbled over ourselves trying to convince them that they’ll like it. Hope they did. Good times.
As a bonus, here is the first pressing (I’m pretty sure the 1st had red letters, the 2nd blue) of the No Reply 7″ rattownrex, a band Dave from SF was in beforehand, also very good! Give me real lyrics, not fucking abstracts! I want your guts!
Stay Gold
Stay Gold was a smooth hardcore band from Northwest US, mostly Seattle. They began when hardcore was in a full revival swing, 98 or 99. These were the years of Floorpunch, Reach The Sky, In My Eyes, Kid Dynamite, Saves The Day … Hardcore was back and was really taking names.
They released a few albums on smaller labels (like Aram’s Anchor Records, pre React Records!). And ended up signing to Indecision Records to sell a few EPs and LPs. They did some big tours, but at least on the east coast, they never got the fanfare they deserved. Oh sure, the Tanguays moshed like crazy bastards (or at least Kyle did), but for the most part, it felt like they slipped unnoticed through the east coast. I’m sure it was an all together different story in Seattle and Portland.
Also, lets not forget that one of the dudes in the band is named Eagle Barber. Great name. And a pretty chill dude too. He hooked me up with a big box of tees a while back for a VERY reasonable price. Big fan.
First up, their first release on Anchor Records. Later Anchor Records would release EPs from What Feeds The Fire and almost Verse. Then Aram got super busy touring the world 600 times over with Champion and had to put record labels on the back burner for a bit. But this Stay Gold EP is a fave. This is the regular release.
This is the same EP but with the limited edition record release cover. Limited to 75. Aram is obviously good with packaging, always has been. This one comes with an acetate sleeve AND a vellum sleeve. Clear vinyl too!
Up next is the Caught Up In The Moment EP from Indecision Records. This one dropped in 2001 and was really when Stay Gold seemed to shine. This was the record that kids really wanted. Sadly, most of those kids wanted the record in 2006, instead of when it originally dropped in 2001. Like Van Gogh, they seemed to have got more popular post break up.
If you never got down with Stay Gold, I suggest picking these up. They are worth the listen. Continue reading
