Everyone knows and loves Jaybird, so I’ll leave that one alone (side note, this is an original on Hawker, and not the repress). Weight Of The World was the first TE record I ever owned, I found a used radio station copy at a record shop in western Mass in high school. I was pretty amped, until I took it home and listened to it. Even at the tender age of 16 I knew this one was a real stinker. I’m still waiting for the day when people try to spin this around as a good record, not unlike the way people are into the third WarZone LP these days (which baffles my mind). Until then, I’ll just pretend this record doesn’t exist.

MURPHYS LAW Bong Blast LP

Here’s Murphy’s Law’s Bong Blast demo tape pressed to vinyl. I don’t remember the exact year this was released, but it was at some point in the mid 90s because I remember buying it at Newbury Comics when I was in college. The demo was recorded live at CBGB’s by the late Jerry Williams (aka Jay Dublee on the lp credits) back in 1983, and has the earliest lineup of the band with Harley Flanagan on drums. Only 1000 were pressed and this thing has been tough to find for quite some time.

Jerry Williams RIP

Just read in a couple of places that Jerry Williams died. For those of you not familiar, Jerry was a key figure in the burgeoning early 80s NYHC scene, recording bands at his 171A studio and doing sound at CBGB, as well as playing guitar in Bloodclot (with a pre-Cro-Mags John Joseph) and later on with Irate (with a post-Straight Ahead Tommy Carroll). He produced records for the Bad Brains, Cro-Mags, Murphy’s Law, Token Entry and a ton more, including the slightly important cassette below…
