The Nothing from Trixz Sly

It’s not everyday that the son of Trixz Sly hits us up about ebay auctions. Apparently, he’s selling his copy of the Uniformz EP. It’s pretty amusing to read this, “It is the one I would play when I was a child. It is still in playable condition, but needs to be cleaned. (I will have it cleaned upon request.) It was recently found -stashed away in a box- and I think it should find a better home. I am afraid if it stays with me, it will never be appreciated.” I’m not sure how that compares to Goldmine grading, but the history lesson is nice. Also, an interesting bonus, “I will provide special gifts with purchase to verify authenticity.” Very curious what those bonus items could be. Old photos would be my guess. The starting bid is a bit high, but perhaps, like Jeff Nelson’s auctions the name will pull the money. We shall see.

Stop The Jap

What a treat for those who can afford it. The auction doesn’t say, but I assume this is the original pressing on Climax Records, since I don’t think any of the boots come with the flexi. Maybe cooch knows. The Stalin are my favorite Japanese punk band, but I could not ever get around to owning any of their originals, and given my current money situation this isn’t about to change unfortunately. On bloody red, Stalinist vinyl too!

kazun0503 has this for a BIN of $120 w/ free shipping, seems like a decent deal to me, but you might wanna ask him about the pressing info before you buy just to be sure.

Big Boys Lullabies Make The Brain Grow TPT

Oh shit, thedanceofdays just threw his hat in the ring for champion of Test Press Tuesday. I think he’s a lock. And it takes only one record. The Big Boys Lullabies Make The Brain Grow. This is classic hardcore straight out of Texas. They were pioneers of many things, that’s for sure. The horn section? Dunno. But damn, some of these jams are just awesome. Grab this great test press from Movement Productions. Not sure how many are out there, but I haven’t seen one pop up before. The LP has dropped in price over the years, but I don’t suspect the test press will. Have at it.

Sterling Death

I really enjoy watching huge money records that I have no interest in buying, just to see what some maniac is willing to shell out for them. Last week’s Opus Good Procedures 45 may have taken the cake in that “spectator” category as the most expensive non-Misfits, non-Sex Pistols punk record I’ve seen sold on ebay.

So while everyone else is sweating pre618‘s Dischord singles, I’m standing by to see what this fine Gentlemen of Horror Sterling Death 7″ sells for. For the uninitiated, this is the absolute top Canadian punk rarity, with only 200 pressed and 50 of those copies being left on a bus in Vancouver by a friend of the band. Check out the tunes here.

My prediction on this one is that it could go for more than the rest of the seller’s listings combined. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Suss Suspect Device

Sure they’re a bunch of dickheads and I personally think Alternative Ulster is a better single, but there’s no denying that this is one of the true classics of punk rock. dancingcatuk brings us the real first pressing of Suspect Device. The band hand glued and stamped the first 500 of this single before having it reissued with printed sleeves and selling another 20,000+ copies. How many of those 500 survived the punk pubs and IRA bombings of Belfast in 1978 and made it to today is anyones guess and makes me wonder why this record doesnt go for alot more when it pops up.

Slash Your Face

The Dogs’ Slash Your Face single is probably top 3 of all time imo, one of the greatest of all time. The title track is years ahead of its time — proto-HARDcore at its finest. Do yourself a favor and track down some mp3′s if you’ve never heard it.

I remember the first time Mentally Ill Gacy’s Place sold on ebay, it hit a mind blowing $1200! The price has settled down now to about 10% of that figure, but the tunes are still classic deranged punk fitting of the band’s name. They have a pretty cool collection reissue on Alternative Tentacles, which I highly recommend if you’ve never heard these guys.

Can’t Stand The Midwest

Back in the mid 90s, a long running underground music writer decided to comp together all of his regional favorites from the USA in the form of the Bloodstains Across… bootleg series. Following Texas and California volumes, was my personal favorite, the Midwest. Seller deathtothesickoids gives us a nice little dose of these Midwest classics, with the first two records here actually being the lead-off tracks on the Bloodstains comp. Even if you don’t want to drop serious cash on the originals, I highly suggest picking up the comp, which should be easily found. Is there really a better song about aliens invading Milwaukee than “Taking The City By Storm”?

Death on the other hand, have only come into the spotlight in the past few years. This 7″ is pretty awesome, but the media hype over their recently released lost LP was a bit much for me. Cool record? Yes. Monumental release in the history of punk? Not quite. They have a new record coming out soon of more old found material, but from what I heard it’s not that hot. We’ll see…

Coca Cola, We Don’t Drink No Booze!

I suspect many of you came to this post expecting a Last Rights EP. Not the case this time around. This time, I’m actually blogging about Coca Cola. That’s right, the carbonated cola that we all love. That other soft drink doesn’t stack up, not even close. What you see here from israeli-records, is a box set of 6 EPs from 1979. That’d be 31 (almost 32) years ago. Quite some time, no doubt. And the contents are super varied. From new wave punk to Bob Marley reggae to traditional French tunes to KBD punk. KDB punk? That’s right. Starshooter’s Betsy Party is the b-side of one of these EPs. They were a punk group from France in the late 70s. Their EP Pin Up Blonde was released in 1977 to some fanfare. That’s probably how they landed on this EP boxset. The song featured actually went to #1 on the French Pop charts. Crazy. So if you are down with KBD or Coca Cola, this boxset has your name on it. Get into it.

Another big ‘un from creeper_ohio…

The Pagans pressed 200 copies of their debut Six & Change single back in ’77, and the story goes the boxes got buried under a snowbank outside of Mike Hudson’s house after being delivered by the pressing plant, so it’s a tough record to get and even harder to get in nice shape. IMO their next single is better, but this one’s a real raw and nasty slice of primal punk trash.

Just Head cause I’m in a rush…

Some cool dude out of Boston is selling a bunch of crud on ebay, and this one’s the crown jewel…

IMHO this is the greatest American (and Bostonian) punk 45 ever released, just edging out the 2nd and 3rd Pagans singles. Both sides are killer stuff — driving punk with a real wild edge that they never really replicated on their other releases.

No one knows for sure how many of these sleeves were made, but common assumption is somewhere around 100 or 200, with the rest of the pressing issued sleeveless. I remember passing one of these for $350 about 6-7 years ago, and the price has steadily climbed up to the $700-800 range since then (and since then I ended up with 3 copes :) ).

Wipers – Better Off Dead 7″

Seller velotis outta Noo Yawk has come cool killed by death type punk singles for sale…

Here’s a great looking copy of the first Wipers single, for a cheap starting price (ten bucks). It’s raining right now in Boston, and I was just spinning their first two LP’s at work — perfect dreary rainy day music. My friend and I were talking about how a TON of people have been aping this band in recent years, which has resulted in a lot of “sounds like the Wipers” descriptions for bands, but ultimately none of them ever capture the sound of the band and especially not Greg Sage’s signature guitar tone.

STAINS – Feel Guilty 7″

One of only 2-3 early early punk releases from Maine (what up B Murphy), the Stains released this 4-songer back in 1980 on their own Gutterworst label. I believe the singer was from the UK, and the the tunes have a pretty strong UK punk influence (including Damned and Sex Pistols covers on side B).

I always thought the splatter vinyl on this one was super cool, i’ve seen copies ranging from completely clear to half clear/half splatter to solid black (that was a test though).

The Absentee Concept

brodies is selling a bunch of cool stuff, but this is the definite gem of his auctions.

The Absentee Concept formed in California in 1978 playing a songs that perfectly fit the time period between late 70′s punk and early 80′s hardcore. In 1981 they shortened their name to the Absentees and pressed just a little over 100 copies of their tryin to mess with me 7″. The band broke up in 1983 and were lost in obscurity until about 10 years later when one of their songs showed up on the Killed By Death volume 7 comp. The band kind of got back together played some shows and Artifix Records put out a CD discography compiling 37 tracks from 1979 to 2000.

If you have some money to spend and your looking for some rare early US punk/hardcore then this is for you!!

DV8 7″

To be honest, I had never heard of this record until the B-side, “Guns On The Right”, was booted as the opening track on the great KBD-styled No One Left To Blame LP back in 2001. The A-side, “Learn To Say Goodbye”, teeters somewhere between Clash-esque reggae influenced punk and off kilter post punk. Still a great song, but nowhere near as blazing as the B-side. “Guns” is a great blast of almost-hardcore, and leads off the NOLTB comp with a bang—I was immediately floored and needed to find a copy. A year later I got a one from my friend Jeff in Chicago, which he paid 25¢ for, and gave to me in return for burning some old NYHC cassettes of his onto CDR’s (which literally took 5 years, sorry dude). Unbeknownst to me at the time, this record comes in a (highly-elusive and extremely cool looking) screen printed picture sleeve, which was missing from the copy I got. Still, not a bad deal on my end, but I’d still love to have a sleeve. Check out both songs here.

Expect this one to hit the $1,000 mark with ease.
