Kilslug were sort of Boston’s answer to Flipper—drugged-out anti-punk that was there to rain on everyone’s parade. They started back in ’81 as The Sickness, releasing a 7″ (the pink one below), then Larry Lifeless and Rico Petroleum from Sickness formed Kilslug. Kilslug released two self released 7″ and a cassette, then an LP on Taang Records. Their laundry list of sit-in members includes Thrasher magazine main man Jake Phelps, Kenny Chambers of the Moving Targets, Steve Risteen of Slap Shot, and tons more. A great story I heard was they were booked on a show on a Sunday in the late 80′s at TT The Bear’s, and when they were about to play, Larry was nowhere to be found. They band played the entire set without him, and about a minute before they ended he walked in the door with a brown bag under his arm and grabbed the mic and said “Thanks, we’re Kilslug” and walked off. Apparently he had driven all the way up to New Hampshire to buy beer (see: MA blue laws) and made it back just in time to end off the set.
On to the wax:
1. Kilslug first 7″ aka Warlocks, Witches & Demons – never issued in a sleeve, some are stamped but this one is not. 500 made, doesn’t turn up much.
2. Kilslug second 7″ aka Necktie Party – also 500 pressed, turns up slightly more than the first 7″
3. Sickness Corpsemonger 7″ – some of these have a yellow front panel on the sleeve, this one comes as originally issued with just a pink piece of paper with some graffiti on it. I heard there were copies that also came with fake vomit but I’ve never seen one. Also released on the best named label ever, Stinky Bike Records. Probably the rarest of the three to find as a complete copy, I’m guessing 500 made.
