The Power of Test Press Tuesday.

Ah, Lard. Lard, if you are unaware, is (was? they are one of those projects that always do the “we’re done, but we’re trying to do stuff still” thing) Jello Biafra and Al Jourgensen’s wacky industrial/hardcore mash up band. It pretty much sounds EXACTLY like what you’d think it would: Dead Kennedys songs done by an industrial band. What we have here is a test of their first release: The Power Of Lard, the title track of which not only sounds like Ministry covering Dead Kennedys, but has an intro I always found reminiscent of Faith No More.

singer, songwriter, public speaker & politician

I’m not an very political person, partially because I dont pay attention so I don’t understand much and partially becaues I feel like it doesnt really matter that much. I guess if I had to classify myself I would be pretty liberal, but I also dont really wanna pay anymore taxes!

All that being said I do enjoy some good spoken word from Eric Reed Boucher, better know as Jello Biafra, but also know as ‘Occupant’, ‘Count Ringworm’, ‘Osama McDonald’ & ‘J Lo’, from time to time. I remember getting a copy of ‘No More Cocoons’ on vinyl with all the crazy newspaper inserts around 1990 and listening to it over and over even though at that point I understood even less of it than I do now. I also bought the follow up ‘High Priest of Harmful Matter’ and then the spoken word 7″ ‘Die For Oil Sucker’.

The 2 LPs are some of the only records I ever let someone borrow and I never got them back! I dont know if I would go back and listen again, but it would be nice to have them. I do still have my ‘Die For Oil Sucker’ 7″ and having listened to it again about a year ago I can say that its still pretty relivent… well the parts that I understand at least!

In addition to Jellos spoken word I have been known to enjoy his musical side projects/post Dead Kennedys stuff also. I think that his work with the Melvins (Jelvins) is my favorite, but I do really like most of the Lard stuff also. the 70′s Rock Must Die ep is great, but you cant forget where it all started!

Its Jello… Its Lard… Its Both!

The guy selling the SOA 7″ is also selling a test press of the Power of Lard ep by (duh!) LARD!

Lard was the first ‘industrial’ band that I ever heard and I’ll admit it, I liked it. I could be heard rockin out ‘Jesus Built My Hotrod’ in 91 and I even saw Ministry twice back in the day. What does this have to do with Lard? Well Lard was a project led by Jello Biafra and Al Jourgensen along with 2 other members of Ministry. They put out 2 LPs and 3 EPs and then called it a day. I’m not even sure if they ever toured.

This is a test press of the first Lard EP and I really hope that I win it.
