Mental – End of an Era

I really like the name of seller thisisourstruggle . I hope it makes reference to the song by a band from California that I discovered when those initial Radio Silence gigs were happening. The band is called Amenity. In any case, I’ll vouch for this seller, and 9 times out of 10 I’m very impressed with speedy delivery from the UK. Never had a problem.

About two weeks ago I was at a Stick Together show in a suburb of Toronto, and a discussion about hardcore broke out. The conversation seemed pretty meta. I hope I used the term correctly. Matt Laforge introduced it to me a few months ago when we were talking about certain hc bands. So in talking with Hoodrack about recent happenings, I mentioned that I had been playing the Planet Mental record recently and I was deep in thought how those songs, more specifically the tune Desperate Measures really represented the end of an era, and moreover marked the end of bebsdom for me.

This one is the limited white vinyl edition, and with a current bid value of less than the price of a coffee.

With that being said, the end gave way to a new beginning…a New Scene, if you will.

Even More Mental.

As promised, we wrap up out our series of LOC auctions from barfight with his run of Planet Mental lp’s. Gonna be real, real real with y’all here: this would have made for a better ep than an lp. I’m sure that will get me kicked off the planet, but it’s just how I feel. By now means am I saying it’s bad or anything, in fact it’s really good, but at the end of the day, only an handful of the songs have stuck with me since this came out. Definitely a record those guys should still be proud of, just one that I personally don’t find myself putting on as much. That’s just me tho.

Lockin Out Lockin Out Lockin Out.

Before we get to the various Planet Mental lp’s that barfight is selling, I thought a quick check in with some of the other LOC big names would be appropriate… Stop and Think Straight Ahead rip off sleeve? Check.

Rage of Discipline on red (a way better look than the gold vinyl)? Check.

Annnnd The Wrong Side… of the Grave on toothpaste green, sans insert (because for some reason more than half never had inserts inserted)? Check!

These are arguably the big 3 of LOC lp’s. And I say arguably, because I’d rather have Rampage’s Limit of Destruction than TWS up there any day. But alas, the seller’s auctions don’t have a copy available…

So Much Mental.

More good records for sale from Tre’s buddy barfight, and ones that all you LOC fans are sure to be eager for. Lots and lots of Mental records up from him. For openers, let’s take a look at a few of the ep’s… there are Planet Mental lp’s up to be sure, but those are for later…

Cold World Wednesday

A nice grouping here from our friend barfight. This time it’s an almost complete Cold World Lockin’ Out collection and three limited cover versions of the band’s first 7″ on Walk All Night  records.  2 different Polo covers, and a Biggie cover.  Real stoked on the new Cold World LP that is in the works right now. Do you know how the gods chill?   2012 will be a great year.

A Lion of Judah test press twofer!

Here’s a couple more test presses from leewayyy down in Baltimore.

First up, their 7″ on Lockin Out, Soul Power. Not sure how many of these are out there, neither is leewayyy actually. I like his auctions. Short descriptions, to the point, and all caps.

Next up is this Love and Rockets test press… wait. Ignore the cover, it’s a test press of the LOJ “Soul Power +4″ LP. He says there’s only 3 or 4, so perhaps this is a situation where “you won’t see this again” is actually pretty true.

File oh three… hours left! Heyo!

The time left in these auctions gave me the inspiration for this title. I was just sitting on these posts all weekend, lacking clever title inspiration. Regardless, here’s a few auctions ending shortly from negativexcreep so get in there and scoop!

The Hope Conspiracy – File 03 7″ from Bridge 9. This is the “standard” edition of the record, black vinyl, with a b-side etching. There were a good amount of these (1500) but this is looooong gone now.

Deathwish Singles Collection. Something we whipped together for Posi Numbers 2004. Smashing success. Some Girls – The Rains on white, Hope Con / Suicide File split on grey, and Horror Show – Our Design on clear. Numbered 229 out of 500!

Lockin Out classic comp, Sweet Vision, with Righteous Jams, Get Real, SOS, Say No More, The Wrong Side, Mental, Jaguarz. On rare clear vinyl. Oh word?

Tre Is Mental, Yo.

Tre’s record glut continues. He doesn’t sleep, he just keeps selling records. This current round appears to be items that were unsold or not purchased (and some heavy hitters). In this go, we’ll just focus on these Mental jams. Love the YO EP. Solid from start to finish.

Get An Oxygen Tank. Yes please. Released on Bridge 9 records. During the LOC infancy.

And You Know This, Man! No color vinyl or crazy sleeves, but this one is a keeper.

Sike. Not Mental. Crunch Time. Good shit.
