The Beastie Boys got me into hardcore. From age 13 to age 16 they were my favorite band (I still like them). I got into them from seeing the “Sabotage” video, but once I got “Ill Communication”, I was instantly blown away by the hardcore songs, “it’s like Sabotage but way faster” I thought, I loved it. So later when I read that Ad-Rock was actually in an band that sounds like Beastie Boy’s hardcore songs, I had to check it out. DFL went on to release a few albums but Adam didn’t stick around in the band very long. I have a couple of their 7″‘s and I think these are the same songs as on the ‘My Crazy Life’ EP, but I always thought this was a cool record, a split 10″ with Beastie Boy’s DJ through most of the 1990′s, DJ Hurricane. Hardcore and hip-hop, together, and not in a shitty way (cough cough, lots of resurgent-trendy bands and kids, cough cough).

I’d jump on this record but I just came back from sort of a mini-record tour of the NY/PA area, I visited Double Decker(Allentown), Generation Records (NYC) and Long In The Tooth (Philly), and I came back with tons of records, and enormous credit card bills, nothing cooch-level but I did get a one-of-a-kind, colored In Your Face-The Grub 7″ from Double Decker that Jamie, the owner bought from Vinnie Value. It looks sick as heck. I also saw the Abused jacket, Jamie said the last offer he had was $1000, but he’s just going to keep it around for now. Ha! Overall I’d say Double Decker and Long In The Tooth were my favorites out of the three. Although Generation Records was great too, and TTD heads might appreciate it more since they had a superb collection of hc/punk/metal t-shirts, that probably beats their vinyl collection (although no Running Wild t-shirts, darn!).
