Melvins LP Box Set

I don’t know anything about the Melvins. Well, that’s not entirely true. I know a little about them. But probably only as much as the average person who is not into them knows. Truth is I have never been interested in this band. A combination of thinking their name was bad when I was about 17, and regularly seeing records with what I considered to be bad cover art in the early 90s just cemented their place in my brain as a band I was not interested in. And now I’m kinda curious about them but don’t really want to get into them because they have about a million records out there. However, seeing the funny character on the front of this ‘Endless Residency’ box set grabs my attention. If I were a Melvins fan, I would definitely want this item. It just looks nice. If you owned it, you would have to have it out & on display rather than on a shelf or in a fridge. There are three of them on ebay right now, and there seems to be a direct correlation between picture quality and price on these things.

modmaniac05 has one with nice pictures and a BIN:

seacow_hunter99sk has one with one not so nice picture but a slightly lower BIN to compensate:

And finally, bnysklz has one with a really bad picture but his price is lowest of the three:

MELVINS 12 x 7

I’m very curious do see what this set of Melvins 7″s being sold by envenda65 go for because I have a complete set too. No granted he has zero feedback and hes in Spain, but hopefully they still sell. The last full set I remember seeing went for close to $1100 and around that time I was offered a Yout of Today CCME orange vinyl ‘Batman’ 7″ for the set and I turned it down. I love the Melvins so even if these don’t sell I’ll still be happy to have my set.

I remember I was working at the Newbury Comics warehouse when this series started. It would be really exciting every time a package came from AmRep because we were all waiting for the next instalment of the monthly Melvins 7″ series!

Heres some info about the records since the seller offers very little…

Melvins – AmRep singles collection – # 1 of 12 January 1996 Lexicon Devil/Pigtro (red vinyl) [of 800]
Melvins – AmRep singles collection – # 2 of 12 February 1996 In The Rain/Spread Eagle Beagle (blue vinyl) [of 800]
Melvins – AmRep singles collection – # 3 of 12 March 1996 Leech/Queen (orange vinyl) [of 800]
Melvins – AmRep singles collection – # 4 of 12 April 1996 Way of the World/Theme (green vinyl) [of 800]
Melvins – AmRep singles collection – # 5 of 12 May 1996 It’s Shoved/Forgotten Principles (clear vinyl) [of 800]
Melvins – AmRep singles collection – # 6 of 12 June 1996 GGIIBBYY/Theresa Screams (pink vinyl) [of 800]
Melvins – AmRep singles collection – # 7 of 12 July 1996 Poison/Double Troubled (red vinyl) [of 800]

MELVINS

occultrecords is selling a set of Melvins 7″s from 2003 on Ipecac Records. I’m not sure if these came out once per month like the AmRep singles did in 1996, but they did all come out in one calander year.

the BIN is kinda high, but the minimum bid is pretty decent. There is actually a set of these at Armageddon Shop that are all for sale as single records and to buy all 7 would be about the same as this auction.

1. Black Stooges/Foaming (Fast Version)
2. Dr. Geek/Return Of The Spiders
3. Little Judas Chongo/Jerkin’ Krokus
4. The Fool, The Meddling Idiot/Promise Me
5. The Brain Center At Whipples/Today Your Love, Tomorrow
6. The World Foaming/Arnie
7. The Anti-Vermin Seed

Buzz and Dale and Joe

I’ve been a HUGE fan of KISS since I was about 5 years old so when I got into punk and first saw that the Melvins had put out a set of solo albums the same way that Gene, Paul, Ace & Peter had in the 70′s I thought they were awesome! Unfortunantly I never actually bought the records. I had the songs on mix tapes that friends made me back in the day and now I have them on my iPod, but I dont actually have the vinyl.

When I saw this auction I was going to send the seller and offer slightly lower than the BIN price, but then I read the description and sadly sunra2000818 says that the LPs dont include the posters that they originally came with.

The 4 KISS solo albums each came with a poster and the 4 of them connected side by side to make a big KISS mural. The Melvins did their own take on this, but they made their posters connect going vertically. The records are awesome, but if I’m gonna drop the money on them I want them to be complete with the posters.

Such great cover art!!!

Even the labels are awesome!!

Murder Screamed the Bride!

The Melvins ‘The Bride Screamed Murder’ came out on CD earlier this year, but I dont think that its come out on vinyl yet, but ox-op seems to have a test press that you can own for the right price!

This auction is actually a lot higher than I would have guessed it would go, but there are a lot of Melvins superfans out there! Its in a cool handmade sleeve and numbered 2 of only 5…. it also ends very soon so jump on it quick!

MELVINS.

When I was in high school, I was friends with an older kid who would have loved these two records that unfoldtheinside has up for auction…

Dude seriously LOVED the Melvins, like to the point that he had a button of that Misfits Fiend Club knock off they did, and wore it every single day. This is the same dude once bought a GIANT Burn sticker at Newbury Comics out from under me, because he said I wasn’t old enough to appreciate how good they were yet. And you know what? He was right.

the long awaited MELVINS box set…

There have been rumblings about a Melvins box set for a few years now and I think most people hoped it was a vinyl box, but unfortunantly it wasnt. Actually as much as I love the Melvins, when the box set finally came out its kind of disapointing.

Its a 13 CD set that includes the albums… The Bride Screamed Murder, Nude with Boots, Senile Animal, Maggot, Bootlicker, Hostile Ambient Takeover, Pigs of the Roman Empire, Colossus of Destiny, 26 Songs, Gluey Porch Treatments, Houdini Live, Electro Retard & Mangled Demos.

The process that went into printing each CD sleeve was really labor intensive and it looks nice, but the fact that it was letterpress printed on a treadle powered hand fed antique press from the 1890s doesnt justify the price for me. In typical Melvins fashoin its super limited! Originally they were suposed to make 300 of them, but it looks like they didnt even make it that far because this one is #129 out of 222.

Not sure if holdendiane picked this up at one of the shows or if there were some left over and sold online, but I would assume that he is trying to at least double his money.

Melvins – Isis – Split – 12″

As part of comemorating the final ISIS tour the Hydrahead folks whipped up a split between ISIS and the Melvins.

The Melvins side consists of remixes of 2 songs from The Bride Screamed Murder album, ‘Pig House’ & ‘I’ll Finish You Off’.The ISIS side is 2 previously unreleased songs from the Wavering Radiant recording sessions.

I know that the record came on at least 4 color vinyls (black, white, clear pink & opaque pink) but there could be more and I dont know the pressing numbers on any of them.

Here is a TEST PRESS if your a Melvins or ISIS super collector…

This ones for you if you like your records on plain jane BLACK vinyl…

Heres a PINK copy you can get your girlfriend for Christmas…

And lastly if you wanna take your chances, here is a SEALED one…

so you wanna sound like a rock star?

Ever wonder why your band sounds like crap and other bands sound so awesome? Its clearly because you dont have enough effects pedals!

If you want the sound that King Buzzo has been blasting ear drums with for years you gotta pay for it! Grab this copy of his ‘solo’ album which doesnt apear to come with the awesome poster it originally came with and then pick up the DOD BUZZ BOX which is a special distortion and octave pedal that Buzzo designed and then you can sound like a rock star!

Maybe youre more of a metal guy… well have no fear because I still got the answer to your guitar solo woes! Screw all that Dimebag bullshit, you wanna sound like DIAMOND Darrell, the Darrell we all grew to love on the Cowboys From Hell record? Well grab yourself a new 180 gram CFH LP and then get the Dunlop DB01 CFH signature Cry Baby Wah pedal and you will be nailing that solo from Cemetary Gates in no time!

Ok this is the last one I got for you, for now! I cant promise you that the Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress Analog Flange Pedal will get you that exact Sam Black Church sound, but a couple of years ago I talked to Zack Andrien who did time with both Maelstrom & Sam Black Church and he said that the Electric Mistress was a staple in getting that SBC sound! Now Zack didnt play on any of the SBC records, but he was in the band for awhile at the end so I think he is a trustable source. I suggest you grab this copy of Let It In along with the Mistress pedal and you start twisting knobs to tweak your sound till its just right!

PINK ON THE OUTSIDE!

I’ve read that records pressed on black vinyl are of a better quality than color vinyl and that when it comes to colored vinyl the more colors mixed the lower the sound quality, but I dont know if any of that is true or not. I’m a sucker for colored vinyl of all kinds! I love a nice clear vinyl, I like blue vinyl a lot, I love a lot of the fancy paterns and color mixes that Bridge 9 does, but for this post I’m gonna focus on PINK!

Here is a copy of the Melvins ‘Stoner Witch’ on a nice bright pink vinyl. The seller says its limited to 5000 copies, but I’m not sure if thats 5000 on pink or 5000 total. Either way Melvins vinyl is always a big hit on eBay!

Green Days breakthrough album ‘Dookie’ was the last album they releasd that I had any real interest in and its far from my favorite, but watching this pink vinyl copy spin on a turntable would make it a little better!

Heres a copy of the ‘My Fire Burns’ 7″ from Strife on New Age Records limited to 175 copies and the seller has 3 of them to sell! I wonder if New Age got a deal on pink vinyl since this is a very similar color to the super limited Outspoken 7″ they also put out.

I think that Sliver is my favorite Nirvana song. Its very possible that the lyrics are a lot deeper than I understand, but the whole ‘grandma take me home’ part reminds me of being a little kid at my grandmas and wanting to go home. This copy is once again, on pink vinyl!

Last but not least we have Twisted Sisters classic ‘Stay Hungry’ LP on pink vinyl. The color matches Dee Sniders outfit perfectly… whats more metal than that!?!?

MELVINS.MELVINS.MELVINS.MELVINS.

Heres a couple of semi-recent Melvins collectibles. The first one I am really into and have actually never seen until now. Its a super limited version of the (A) Senile Animal 4 x LP set.

I’m not sure what color vinyl the box set version is on, but I know that there were 4 colors for the regular (non box set) version. A copy with all 4 LPs on black vinyl version limited to 100, a copy with all 4 LPs on blue/yellow mix vinyl limited to about 1000, a version with a 1 each LP on pink, blue, yellow & green vinyl limited to about 1000 and a copy with all 4 LPs on solid blue vinyl limited to 600.

This box set contains the 4 LPs (which are all etched on the B sides) along with a comic book and a belt buckle in a cool screen printed box limited to only 300.

Next up is a copy of the Hurray for Me Fuk You 12″ which was sold at the Amphetamine Reptile Records 25th anniversary party in Minneapolis, MN. There were only 100 copies and this one is numbered #45 out of 100.

Matt, Dale & Buzzo

scapulawings is clearing out a Melvins record that I really want. I’m not gonna buy it right now because I cant afford it, but someday I hope to own it!

I’m actually surprised that the BIN on this isnt higher. I dont know exactly what its worth, but this is an original 6 song 7″ from 1986 on C/Z Records. With the insane prices that more recent Melvins vinyl comands it seems like this should be higher.

MELVINS vs. SNIVLEM

There are over 300 records for sale by sunra2000818 in Japan so browse & combine shipping!

The ‘Prick’ LP by SNIVLEM is not the most musical record, but its pretty cool and theres a good story or two behind it. I’ve heard 2 different stories about why this record exists…

#1 The Melvins signed to Atlantic and released ‘Houdini’. Aparently it was a multi-Record deal (3 records I believe), but Atlantic didnt want to put out much money for each record. The band had a plan for what they wanted to do, but not enough money to do it. Being locked into an exclusive contract with Atlantic, they recorded a very ‘experimental’ record, even by Melvins standards, and released it through Amphetamine Reptile. Since “The Melvins” had an exclusive contract with Atlantic, they released the record as “SNIVLEM” and called it “Prick”, possibly a reference to their A&R guy or to Atlantic Records as a whole. The money raised by the release of this record was used to help fund the recordings of ‘Stoner Witch’.

#2 Atlantic signed the Melvins to a multi-record deal and released Houdini. When the Melvins recorded the follow up record and submitted it the lable refused to release it and said it was crap. The Melvins who never seem to hesitate on releasing something handed it off to Amphetamine Reptile who released it as a record by ‘Snivlem’ since the ‘Melvins’ had an exclusive contract with Atlantic.

and thus, Grunge was born…

dilaudid is selling a lot of records and they all seem to have low starting prices which is nice!

The Deep Six compilation was released March 1986. It was the very first release by C/Z Records, a few months before the release of the “Sub Pop 100″ compilation. It is considered one of the first records to influence the later “Seattle sound” aka grunge. The first ‘Grunge’ record is probably Green River’s ‘Come on Down’ EP. The album was reissued as a joint C/Z Records/A&M Records release on April 6, 1994.

Track listing
Green River – 10,000 Things
The Melvins – Scared
The Melvins – Blessing the Operation
Malfunkshun – With Yo’ Heart (Not Yo’ Hands)
Skin Yard – Throb
Soundgarden – Heretic
Soundgarden – Tears to Forget
Malfunkshun – Stars-N-You
The Melvins – Grinding Process
The Melvins – She Waits
Skin Yard – The Birds
Soundgarden – All Your Lies
Green River – Your Own Best Friend
The U-Men – They

MELVINS!

The Melvins are like the kings of putting out limited vinyl that everyone wants! I would love to see a collection of everything they have put out, but I dont think I’ve ever seen a Melvins ‘super collection’ at all.

First up is a set of 7 singles that came out 1 every month or so over the course of a year. This set was the second time they did the ‘single a month’ thing so its not worth as much as the original set, but its still pretty rare and tough to get a full set. I believe that the photo on each cover is a halloween mask from Buzzos collection.

next is a book record package from 1995. It was released between the stoner wtich and stag lp’s. It chronicles their trials and tribulations on their arena tours dealing with the fans of the larger bands they were touring with. PRICELESS
