Melvins – Isis – Split – 12″

As part of comemorating the final ISIS tour the Hydrahead folks whipped up a split between ISIS and the Melvins.

The Melvins side consists of remixes of 2 songs from The Bride Screamed Murder album, ‘Pig House’ & ‘I’ll Finish You Off’.The ISIS side is 2 previously unreleased songs from the Wavering Radiant recording sessions.

I know that the record came on at least 4 color vinyls (black, white, clear pink & opaque pink) but there could be more and I dont know the pressing numbers on any of them.

Here is a TEST PRESS if your a Melvins or ISIS super collector…

This ones for you if you like your records on plain jane BLACK vinyl…

Heres a PINK copy you can get your girlfriend for Christmas…

And lastly if you wanna take your chances, here is a SEALED one…

so you wanna sound like a rock star?

Ever wonder why your band sounds like crap and other bands sound so awesome? Its clearly because you dont have enough effects pedals!

If you want the sound that King Buzzo has been blasting ear drums with for years you gotta pay for it! Grab this copy of his ‘solo’ album which doesnt apear to come with the awesome poster it originally came with and then pick up the DOD BUZZ BOX which is a special distortion and octave pedal that Buzzo designed and then you can sound like a rock star!

Maybe youre more of a metal guy… well have no fear because I still got the answer to your guitar solo woes! Screw all that Dimebag bullshit, you wanna sound like DIAMOND Darrell, the Darrell we all grew to love on the Cowboys From Hell record? Well grab yourself a new 180 gram CFH LP and then get the Dunlop DB01 CFH signature Cry Baby Wah pedal and you will be nailing that solo from Cemetary Gates in no time!

Ok this is the last one I got for you, for now! I cant promise you that the Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress Analog Flange Pedal will get you that exact Sam Black Church sound, but a couple of years ago I talked to Zack Andrien who did time with both Maelstrom & Sam Black Church and he said that the Electric Mistress was a staple in getting that SBC sound! Now Zack didnt play on any of the SBC records, but he was in the band for awhile at the end so I think he is a trustable source. I suggest you grab this copy of Let It In along with the Mistress pedal and you start twisting knobs to tweak your sound till its just right!

PINK ON THE OUTSIDE!

I’ve read that records pressed on black vinyl are of a better quality than color vinyl and that when it comes to colored vinyl the more colors mixed the lower the sound quality, but I dont know if any of that is true or not. I’m a sucker for colored vinyl of all kinds! I love a nice clear vinyl, I like blue vinyl a lot, I love a lot of the fancy paterns and color mixes that Bridge 9 does, but for this post I’m gonna focus on PINK!

Here is a copy of the Melvins ‘Stoner Witch’ on a nice bright pink vinyl. The seller says its limited to 5000 copies, but I’m not sure if thats 5000 on pink or 5000 total. Either way Melvins vinyl is always a big hit on eBay!

Green Days breakthrough album ‘Dookie’ was the last album they releasd that I had any real interest in and its far from my favorite, but watching this pink vinyl copy spin on a turntable would make it a little better!

Heres a copy of the ‘My Fire Burns’ 7″ from Strife on New Age Records limited to 175 copies and the seller has 3 of them to sell! I wonder if New Age got a deal on pink vinyl since this is a very similar color to the super limited Outspoken 7″ they also put out.

I think that Sliver is my favorite Nirvana song. Its very possible that the lyrics are a lot deeper than I understand, but the whole ‘grandma take me home’ part reminds me of being a little kid at my grandmas and wanting to go home. This copy is once again, on pink vinyl!

Last but not least we have Twisted Sisters classic ‘Stay Hungry’ LP on pink vinyl. The color matches Dee Sniders outfit perfectly… whats more metal than that!?!?

MELVINS.MELVINS.MELVINS.MELVINS.

Heres a couple of semi-recent Melvins collectibles. The first one I am really into and have actually never seen until now. Its a super limited version of the (A) Senile Animal 4 x LP set.

I’m not sure what color vinyl the box set version is on, but I know that there were 4 colors for the regular (non box set) version. A copy with all 4 LPs on black vinyl version limited to 100, a copy with all 4 LPs on blue/yellow mix vinyl limited to about 1000, a version with a 1 each LP on pink, blue, yellow & green vinyl limited to about 1000 and a copy with all 4 LPs on solid blue vinyl limited to 600.

This box set contains the 4 LPs (which are all etched on the B sides) along with a comic book and a belt buckle in a cool screen printed box limited to only 300.

Next up is a copy of the Hurray for Me Fuk You 12″ which was sold at the Amphetamine Reptile Records 25th anniversary party in Minneapolis, MN. There were only 100 copies and this one is numbered #45 out of 100.

Matt, Dale & Buzzo

scapulawings is clearing out a Melvins record that I really want. I’m not gonna buy it right now because I cant afford it, but someday I hope to own it!

I’m actually surprised that the BIN on this isnt higher. I dont know exactly what its worth, but this is an original 6 song 7″ from 1986 on C/Z Records. With the insane prices that more recent Melvins vinyl comands it seems like this should be higher.

MELVINS vs. SNIVLEM

There are over 300 records for sale by sunra2000818 in Japan so browse & combine shipping!

The ‘Prick’ LP by SNIVLEM is not the most musical record, but its pretty cool and theres a good story or two behind it. I’ve heard 2 different stories about why this record exists…

#1 The Melvins signed to Atlantic and released ‘Houdini’. Aparently it was a multi-Record deal (3 records I believe), but Atlantic didnt want to put out much money for each record. The band had a plan for what they wanted to do, but not enough money to do it. Being locked into an exclusive contract with Atlantic, they recorded a very ‘experimental’ record, even by Melvins standards, and released it through Amphetamine Reptile. Since “The Melvins” had an exclusive contract with Atlantic, they released the record as “SNIVLEM” and called it “Prick”, possibly a reference to their A&R guy or to Atlantic Records as a whole. The money raised by the release of this record was used to help fund the recordings of ‘Stoner Witch’.

#2 Atlantic signed the Melvins to a multi-record deal and released Houdini. When the Melvins recorded the follow up record and submitted it the lable refused to release it and said it was crap. The Melvins who never seem to hesitate on releasing something handed it off to Amphetamine Reptile who released it as a record by ‘Snivlem’ since the ‘Melvins’ had an exclusive contract with Atlantic.

and thus, Grunge was born…

dilaudid is selling a lot of records and they all seem to have low starting prices which is nice!

The Deep Six compilation was released March 1986. It was the very first release by C/Z Records, a few months before the release of the “Sub Pop 100″ compilation. It is considered one of the first records to influence the later “Seattle sound” aka grunge. The first ‘Grunge’ record is probably Green River’s ‘Come on Down’ EP. The album was reissued as a joint C/Z Records/A&M Records release on April 6, 1994.

Track listing
Green River – 10,000 Things
The Melvins – Scared
The Melvins – Blessing the Operation
Malfunkshun – With Yo’ Heart (Not Yo’ Hands)
Skin Yard – Throb
Soundgarden – Heretic
Soundgarden – Tears to Forget
Malfunkshun – Stars-N-You
The Melvins – Grinding Process
The Melvins – She Waits
Skin Yard – The Birds
Soundgarden – All Your Lies
Green River – Your Own Best Friend
The U-Men – They

MELVINS!

The Melvins are like the kings of putting out limited vinyl that everyone wants! I would love to see a collection of everything they have put out, but I dont think I’ve ever seen a Melvins ‘super collection’ at all.

First up is a set of 7 singles that came out 1 every month or so over the course of a year. This set was the second time they did the ‘single a month’ thing so its not worth as much as the original set, but its still pretty rare and tough to get a full set. I believe that the photo on each cover is a halloween mask from Buzzos collection.

next is a book record package from 1995. It was released between the stoner wtich and stag lp’s. It chronicles their trials and tribulations on their arena tours dealing with the fans of the larger bands they were touring with. PRICELESS
