Here is an auction by stab_and_kill for Mental’s first 7″ AND YOU KNOW THIS. The record is on clear vinyl (limited to 200) and comes with a painkiller insert.
It’s a classic. What more is there to say. Also 10% of the proceeds are going to charity – SFSPCA Search for more by Mental
Thanks to the seller negativexcreep it’s a great day to be an earthling. You can be sure that Marvin the Martian (the real MTM) already has this joint, and who knows if this thing will ever touch down into the Earth’s atmosphere again, so in order to prevent this thing from remaining an unidentified flying object on your want list forever, you better set up the coordinates on your tractor beam to Jan 23, 2012 17:43:28 EST.
I, like most of you all, am also waiting on an official discography from the LOC. I wonder how many other PM tests there are out there in the universe?
Doctor xxxevilxxx666 must have reached his goal of raising “1 million dollars” in Japanese relief monies because I no longer see the related message in his auctions.
Have you ever thought about the strength that was the Mental comp song? You have right? Well, I’ll summarize a few points. There was the song featured on the Stab To Kill comp “Straight Jacket Mosh”, “History 101″ as featured on the TOWN OF HARDCORE COMP, and then there was “Get A Life” on the SWEET VISION COMPILATION of Various Artists. Those songs were awesome. Definitely stand out tracks for their vibe, context, and message.
Can anyone tell me who coined the name of the comp SWEET VISION?
If you need a track listing for the Stab To Kill comp, look no further: http://www.allmusic.com/album/stab-to-kill-vol-1-the-stab-to-kill-compilation-r691108. The comp is very MASS heavy (big PUN) but in case you didn’t know the band AS THEY FALL that is here, is actually from a small town in Quebec called Jonquière. These guys were pretty cool. They didn’t play Montrèal too often, but when they did they came with their heavy duty crew, the right gear, and ready with great covers. I think the last time I saw them play was at a show I did that was Have Heart’s first show in Canada. Demo era Look Alive was supposed to play but something happened last minute I’m afraid, and I heard second hand that Desperate Measures were en route but turned back when they hit the border or something along those lines. Pretty weird. Was still a great show.
And if you are interested in the Posi Numbers press of the Stab To Kill 2003 Sampler, well, you can get one of those. You’ll have to keep digging for the comp though …
I really like the name of seller thisisourstruggle . I hope it makes reference to the song by a band from California that I discovered when those initial Radio Silence gigs were happening. The band is called Amenity. In any case, I’ll vouch for this seller, and 9 times out of 10 I’m very impressed with speedy delivery from the UK. Never had a problem.
About two weeks ago I was at a Stick Together show in a suburb of Toronto, and a discussion about hardcore broke out. The conversation seemed pretty meta. I hope I used the term correctly. Matt Laforge introduced it to me a few months ago when we were talking about certain hc bands. So in talking with Hoodrack about recent happenings, I mentioned that I had been playing the Planet Mental record recently and I was deep in thought how those songs, more specifically the tune Desperate Measures really represented the end of an era, and moreover marked the end of bebsdom for me.
This one is the limited white vinyl edition, and with a current bid value of less than the price of a coffee.
With that being said, the end gave way to a new beginning…a New Scene, if you will.
Daylight savings has me all messed up. At like 5:30 last night, my brain felt like it was time to leave work. So I got myself ready, and then looked at a clock, and realized that it was far too early to be done for the day. So I decided that I would run some DW related errands. I ran over to Liberated Images, and pick up some new Deafheaven merch that we got printed up, then headed into Boston to meet up with Jeff from Run For Cover in a police station parking lot to pick up some new RFC titles for our distro. Since I was in Boston, I decided to treat myself to breakfast for dinner, and had some pancakes, and while peacefully enjoying my meal Whitlow starts blowing up my phone. Apparently he felt he wasn’t getting enough VN coverage this time around, and was hassling me to post up some of his stuff. So since we go way back, I told him I would do this for him. Move quick, these all end tonight!!!

That Right Brigade LP that I think everyone still hates
As promised, we wrap up out our series of LOC auctions from barfight with his run of Planet Mental lp’s. Gonna be real, real real with y’all here: this would have made for a better ep than an lp. I’m sure that will get me kicked off the planet, but it’s just how I feel. By now means am I saying it’s bad or anything, in fact it’s really good, but at the end of the day, only an handful of the songs have stuck with me since this came out. Definitely a record those guys should still be proud of, just one that I personally don’t find myself putting on as much. That’s just me tho.
More good records for sale from Tre’s buddy barfight, and ones that all you LOC fans are sure to be eager for. Lots and lots of Mental records up from him. For openers, let’s take a look at a few of the ep’s… there are Planet Mental lp’s up to be sure, but those are for later…
Here’s an interesting situation that oft occurs on eBay. You find a dude selling a few nice records, spot a couple of things you want, and then… BANG… you notice the seller’s feedback is beyond low. You read the feedback to discover that the dude has a bit of a shady past and seems to have not sent out items he has sold. So you sit there and think “well maybe the feedback will put everyone off, so if I bid I can score it at a low price” combined with “but if I score it at a low price, dude is even less likely to want to send it out”. It’s an interesting dilemma no doubt.
For those of you who like mind games, epitomeoffreewill10 is clearing out his Mental collection, which includes a couple of the rarer tour pressings:
Maybe you’ll score some bargains, maybe you’ll end up in a lifetime of paypal disputes. He is offering shipping confirmation free of charge though if that helps. Give it some thought…
Well, almost every limited Mental EP. Much like Morgado’s post on TTD about “Every Mental tshirt” (incidentally, the seller relisted most of those tees if you are interested), this one is short a few. But mikeylizard brings the heat in this one. There are record release covers (solid rasta paint job, 01.25.03 AYKTM), limited color vinyl, tour sleeves (10.17.02), … The works. These are some of the hottest Mental EPs out there. Check the list.

The time left in these auctions gave me the inspiration for this title. I was just sitting on these posts all weekend, lacking clever title inspiration. Regardless, here’s a few auctions ending shortly from negativexcreep so get in there and scoop!
The Hope Conspiracy – File 03 7″ from Bridge 9. This is the “standard” edition of the record, black vinyl, with a b-side etching. There were a good amount of these (1500) but this is looooong gone now.
Deathwish Singles Collection. Something we whipped together for Posi Numbers 2004. Smashing success. Some Girls – The Rains on white, Hope Con / Suicide File split on grey, and Horror Show – Our Design on clear. Numbered 229 out of 500!
Lockin Out classic comp, Sweet Vision, with Righteous Jams, Get Real, SOS, Say No More, The Wrong Side, Mental, Jaguarz. On rare clear vinyl. Oh word?
Tre’s record glut continues. He doesn’t sleep, he just keeps selling records. This current round appears to be items that were unsold or not purchased (and some heavyhitters). In this go, we’ll just focus on these Mental jams. Love the YO EP. Solid from start to finish.
Get An Oxygen Tank. Yes please. Released on Bridge 9 records. During the LOC infancy.
And You Know This, Man! No color vinyl or crazy sleeves, but this one is a keeper.
Ebay seller everyonerage26 has listed up some pretty reasonable BINS which I don’t expect to be there in the morning. Most of the auctions are for Boston area bands, so get your bid on!
We start this week’s Test Press Tuesday off overseas, with what’s sure to be a big money item. Seller ianxwiles has what is probably a holy grail to a lot of LOC super fans: a Mental “And You Know This” test press. I was actually supposed to get one of these, because at one point Greg was planning to make covers for them using the picture of me from the insert, but neither thing happened… I’ll give you one guess which one not happening bums me out more.
Having taken a look through seller pleasexdie’s darkly lit auctions, it occurred to me that it’s been a little while since we had an edition of Cassette Noize here on Vinyl Noize. So let’s kick off this third edition with a couple Rival Mob tapes, one the Raw Life promo and the other a live tape I’ve never heard of…
…from there we move on to a pair of great, Brotherhood inspired Straight Edge bands: No Tolerance and Stick Together…
…and finally we have the real gem in the crown: the Mental demo. Not the one with the rap, that was Demo #2. This is the FIRST Mental demo, open which appears the legendary song Blue In The Face, which was never played live until that fateful day when Dookie sang it with Crunch Time…
Seller thisisourstruggle is another one with a crap load of demos for sale, and many of them have connections to the almighty LOC, be they actual LOC released demos or demos from bands who went on to put their records on LOC. Yes I wrote all that just so I could say “put their records on LOC”. I’ll take my bad puns where I can get ‘em.
And of course, you can’t have a series of LOC related demos without this one…
