Hardcore essentials

A couple of top shelf rippers courtesy of robase

I saw these in person at the WFMU fair last month and I have to say that while these records are second pressings, I would throw down on them without question (if I didn’t have them already), as both are CLEAN AS FUCK — especially the SOA.

Also it’s cool that NA always cited SOA as a major influence, so you can grab one of the best HC 7″s ever and the record behind the record in one fell swoop.

Toxic Reasons

adversewind brings us a pair from a band who these days are overshadowed in popularity by their Midwest peers but still rate high on the classic USHC list. I have a soft spot for bands who mixed 70′s UK punk with early hardcore sounds — DOA, Kraut, the Canuck Subhumans, Toxic Reasons, Personality Crisis, etc — and these two singles are some of the best of the best. To the best of my knowledge neither of these 7″s have been booted or reissued (though they show up on other records rerecorded) so get to bidding if you want to lay your ears on these tasty platters.

Fix Vengeance test press

Here’s a real corker from seller hypstr66

People have been discussing the authenticity of this record on a message board I read, and the consensus seems to be a solid “not sure”. Some third party experts have been called to the situation, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see where this one goes. If it’s real, expect this one to hit a pretty astronomical price.

BIN’d Down

BIN-priced first press copy of NA’s lp (with free shipping!) courtesy of my favorite seller of hardcore records and vintage porno mags, mr. krypt-of-kool. I never really paid much attention to the cover on this LP until recently, and I realized it might be one of the worst record covers of all time.

Vengeance again

Another top shelf barnstormer from what77fuk. I can’t believe this is on ebay AGAIN, but I feel like I’m obligated to post it every time it shows up. Go ahead…

Die Cruisin’

SIDE STORY: A few years ago there was a brief period where any high end punk records on ebay were won by one of two bidders: lpman13 or romarocket. If you were after an auction these two were bidding on, forget it. Worse, if they were bidding against each other, it was world war three. Lpman13 ended up being some sort of investor type that flipped his purchases a few years later for big profits and dropped out of the game, but romarocket still pops up once in a while (and you can sample his fine Italian cooking if you’re ever in Portland, OR).

Anyways, to get back on track here… I’ve posted this LP here before, but I’ve never heard the story that Mr. rocket presents in his auction listing:

This was a mistake pressing on Touch and Go Records that was meant for the Butthole Surfers 12″ “Rembrandt Pussyhorse”..but obviously T&G sold a few instead of sending them all back to the plant. Around 1000 made but most were destroyed. Approximately 100–200 are around today.

I’ve heard the 100–200 figure before, but I also heard that they were made for the band to give out to friends, so who knows. Either way, this record smokes, so someone should buy it since I already have one.

Die Cruisin’

I always thought it was a little weird that this LP existed, as Touch & Go didn’t do color vinyl pressings of any of their early records. I have to assume it was one of those deals where the plant just had some color around and they got pressed up in a rush or something, but who knows. I’ve heard as little as 200-300 were made, and many were given to friends. At any rate, this is one of the best American hardcore records ever made, and the little color vinyl quirk only adds to the package.

Vengeance the IVth

Unfuckingbelievable, sk82dth has listed the FOURTH copy of Vengeance to be up on ebay this year! I don’t know where these things are coming from (well actually I do with the other three), but it’s pretty insane to think that these things used to pop up, at best, once every two years… and here we have four since this summer. Normally I don’t like posting the same records over and over, but this guy deserves it. Cool graffiti on the labels too.

$ Vengeance $

More big baller action from Mr. creeper_ohio.

Again like the Necros 7″, it’s pretty wild that this is the THIRD copy of this record on ebay this year. I think prior to 2010, there were 3 copies listed over the past 5 years, if that. 200 pressed, and possibly the greatest American hardcore 7″ ever made, so expect this one to hit the $3 grand mark with ease.

$$$ex Drive

Seller creeper_ohio is opening up the heavy artillery on the ‘bay…

It’s kinda crazy this record has come up twice this year, considering there are only 100 copies out there. This one’s nice too, complete with insert and looking VERY crisp in condition. So either get that credit card ready, or just sit back with some popcorn and watch the action unfold.

NA ep

My buddy Jay from Providence is unloading some stuff, mostly of the powerpop and synthpunk variety (ie, stuff people here aren’t interested in), but he has this cheap first press copy of the NA ep up…

Looks like the vinyl isn’t in tip-top shape, but you get some sound clips to see what’s up, so if you’re not super anal about condition this might slip by pretty cheap. I’ll vouch for the quality of his grading, so if someone here wins this and isn’t happy with it, I’ll let you punch Morgado in the arm.

INMATES – A-holes Unanimous LP

More from mnl_studios… he ain’t just sellin NYHC.

OK, I gotta admit I’m partial to this LP because I put it out. My friend Mike originally released it around 2002, but he only did 300 so a few years later we (Painkiller) took his stampers and did another 900 LP, with 600 black and 300 pink marble.

This LP is a total scorcher, with 18 tracks of early-US-meets-UK82-hardcore bliss. And for all you Norman Coremans out there, you get 3/5 of the For Those Who Fear Tomorrow era Integrity lineup, and a member of Meanstreak (!). I played a show with them once at a bowling alley in the Clevo burbs, and pretty much anything that wasn’t bolted down was flying during their set — bowling balls, paint, garbage barrels, broomsticks — you name it.

I saw these guys play a couple of weekends ago in NYC, their 3rd and 2nd to last shows ever, and they f’n killed it both times. Coincidentally their last show ever is tonight in New Orleans, kind of a weird place to send it off but whatever!

Jan’s Rooms

I saw Steve Miller from The Fix belt out 3 or 4 songs with Tesco Vee’s band a month or two ago in NYC, and let me tell you, it was pretty eff’n awesome. It was one of those situations where it was over as soon as it started, and I was left standing there scratching my head and thinking “wtf just happened?” His voice is still raw as hell, and these are still some of the best HC songs ever recorded.

This copy of Jan’s Rooms looks really nice, though I’m not sure if there’s an insert. I shot the guy a message to find out… either way still one of the best American HC records ever.

BORN WITHOUT A FACE 7″

Very cool and very under the radar ep from this mid 80′s Detroit area band. They had a couple of 7″s and some demo material, all of which has a great dark and disfigured HC sound lying somewhere between early COC and United Mutation. This is their 2nd ep, from ’86, and I think there were 1000 made. It doesn’t turn up a lot but it usually stays cheap so it’s a cool way to check out some good obscure 80′s core. I guess there was going to be a reissue LP a year or two ago, but it fell to the wayside due to band member disagreements with the label. Hopefully that will happen some day soon.

PS if anyone has a copy of the first 7″ for sale/trade, hit me up!

Die Kreuzen LP

Nice looking copy of this classic lp, going way cheap with a day and a half left. I’m surprised the price of this record hasn’t spiked hard with all the bands claiming them and Void as their influences these days, but I guess that could be the result of the recent reissue. Either way, this record rips and no band has ever sounded like them since, so poseurs be damned.
