Turban-head wants you dead

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and is looking forward to New Year’s! Jaybil didn’t post “Fuck Christmas” and I couldn’t find SSD’s “Jolly Old St. Nick”, so I kind of gave up on a themed post and decided to just post a good, solid record, something that works in every season!

Here itsxdead has Leeway’s “Born To Expire”. This is something you just can’t go wrong with. The riffs, the mosh, it hasn’t been matched since, even though this sort of NYHC-crossover style seems pretty en-vogue these days. I am not sure this can ever be re-captured. Everything about this LP is just perfect, well for the genre anyway, you need this!

jud jud jud… jud jud whaaa… judd-judd

thedarkesthills has not one, but two copies of the Jud Jud “X DEMOS X” on green vinyl with the red sleeve that you can purchase for a low BIN price!

Most of the people I work with are older (40′s-50′s) but even the few younger guys dont really know what to make of me and the stuff I like. Things like a shirt that says Gorilla Biscuits cracks them up and they think its the craziest thing ever! The other day I was listening to Jud Jud when one of the guys came in my office. He started talking and then just stopped and was staring at the speakers on my desk just listening. It felt like hours, but I guess after about a minute he finally asked what the hell I was listening to. I tried to explain it, but I think it was kind of lost in translation… and this is one of the guys thats already walked in on me listening to Caninus and had that explained to him!

Anyway, this is a great record, an awesome conversation piece and damn funny. I like the artwork on the No Tolerance for Instruments 7″ better but they are both worth adding to your collection! If youre not familiar with them at all please check them out here www.myspace.com/judjud

Under The Knife

Under The Knife is one of those seminal albums from Connecticut. Like the X Marks The Spot comp, the Join The Fight ep and the Can’t Close My Eyes ep, this album was above and beyond anything else that was coming out at the time. It stood out. It was different. And unlike the records I mentioned previously, this one was HARD. Seriously hard. Smash Your Enemies, Kill An Addict, Under The Knife & Filth. All ragers. All hard hitting. Connecticut would never look back to those crucial youth, Anthrax moments. After this EP dropped, CT got hard. And that’s not all terrible …

Peep the BIN from vinyl-n-more13. And if that BIN isn’t for you, grab the more expensive one. Not sure why you would want to do that, but the option is yours.

Mosh Camp

If there was ever a time to bust open that piggy bank, now is the time. What you are looking at here is an American Nightmare Mosh Camp EP. I honestly can’t figure out who the seller is (based on their location and the depth of their collection) but you can tell it’s the legit shit. Some serious big time records here.

Do you know the Mosh Camp story? It’s pretty simple. It started with a crew of dudes looking to hang out, up their game some. Boston Straight Edge. Dudes would roll to Joey Cs house or up to Mullets in the Valley on hot summer days. They’d hang and dive into pools for hours. There were also many night time missions cruising around BU looking for the best track and field pits to dive into. I went on a few of those, but missed out on the pool times. When it came time for AN to release some EPs, the dudes set 24 aside. They printed up some obviously chill covers and wrote accolades for whomever was receiving the EP. This particular one appears to be for Clevo (of Ten Yard Fight, In The Red, Stop And Think, Right Brigade, …). But I’m 99% certain that Clevo is NOT the seller. Very interesting.

Good luck folks. I was tempted to make a big opening bid, but am going to sit back and wait. I never got one of these. And I’m probably the worst off for it. If you’ve seen my stage dives, you’d agree.

I’m Sorry I’m Leaving

Funny story:

When this ep dropped, kids weren’t super into it. I remember Saves The Day played a few gigs where they sold this EP. It was not an immediate success.

But kids still wanted it pretty bad. One of my friends really wanted it. So she got a 2nd friend to pick it up for her. For some reason, she couldn’t make that gig. He grabbed it for her and all seemed well.

The next day happened to be particularly sunny. And WHOOPS, my friend forgot to remove it from his car. By the time he gave my friend her new Saves The Day EP, it was essentially a hipster ashtray. Bummer.

Good gig, though.

CLUTCH – 12″ Test Press

Clutch formed when I was in 10th grade… I can honestly say that back then I was completly unaware of them. As much as I like them now they are one of the bands that at first listen I just couldnt get into. It took some years and a slight bit of maturing for me to ‘get’ Clutch and really enjoy them. Two other bands that I didnt really get into until I got a bit older…. Tool and Motorhead (I feel like an ass for not immediatly loving Motorhead!)

This is a test press of Earache Records – Mosh 74T, ‘Passive restraints’ a 12″ ep from 1992. I don’t think I’ve seen very many Earache test presses, but this is already bid up pretty high considering it started at $9.99 and its not a full LP.
