another Rock & Roll fatality….

This is kind of old news now, but I dont think it got much publicity so maybe you havent heard yet. I believe this was originally posted on Blabbermouth or BrooklynVegan…..

It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Basil, frontdog of death-grind legends Caninus. Noisecreep is reporting that Basil was put to sleep last Wednesday after being diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Caninus is the side-project of Most Precious Blood’s Justin Brannan and Rachel Rosen. The band was fronted by two pit bulls, Budgie and the now-deceased Basil. Charred Walls of the Damned / Howard Stern sidekick Richard Christy played drums on a few of their tracks and plans to contribute to a final Caninus record dedicated to Basil, due later this year. When asked whether he planned to continue on under the Caninus moniker after this next record without his best buddy Basil, Budgie simply said, “woof.”

No, but seriously… we know how pets can touch peoples’ lives and we’re sincerely sorry to hear about Basil’s passing. R.I.P., and our condolences to Justin and Rachel

The Animals Have A Voice!

Caninus – Now the Animals Have a Voice promo CD. Caninus is a side project by members of Most Precious Blood. Guitarist Justin Brannan, Guitarist Rachel Rosen & drummer Colin Thundercurry along with two singers, Budgie and Basil who both happen to be pit-bull terriers. They’ve put out 3 releases, a split with Cattle Depacitaion, a split with Hatebeak and this CD. I can promise you that with a BIN this low, its worth getting!!

Hatebeak is the side project of Blake Harrison from Pig Destroyer along with Waldo, a 19 year old Congo African Grey Parrot handeling the vocal duties. Hatebeak has released 3 split 7″s with Caninus, Birdflesh and this one with Longmont Potion Castle. I already have the Caninus record, but I will most likely be bidding on this one!
