Naked Raygun – Flammable Solid

I completely forgot this record existed until I saw this auction from pre618. I was never really a big Naked Raygun fan but my old roommate used to blast them 24/7. It rubbed off me a little bit, enough to where i picked up this record at one point. The seller is in Philly so this could very well be my old copy as i sold it to someone a long time ago when i lived there. The price is still pretty reasonable. I think i sold it for way more and that was almost 10 years ago.

Raygun… Naked Raygun

Naked Raygun is one of my favorite bands of all time, and fallofuruk (great username btw) has up some meat ‘n potatoes LPs up that I think everyone needs to own… maybe these should be a “stock collection” post?

One glaringly obvious trait with NR is that they loved to open their records with the big hits, and you couldn’t ask for a better 1-2-3 punch of Rat Patrol/Home Of The Brave/Soldier’s Requiem with these three LPs, respectively. These are all under 5 bucks each with no bids, so I suggest grabbing these if you are a fan of quality tunes.

DV8 7″

To be honest, I had never heard of this record until the B-side, “Guns On The Right”, was booted as the opening track on the great KBD-styled No One Left To Blame LP back in 2001. The A-side, “Learn To Say Goodbye”, teeters somewhere between Clash-esque reggae influenced punk and off kilter post punk. Still a great song, but nowhere near as blazing as the B-side. “Guns” is a great blast of almost-hardcore, and leads off the NOLTB comp with a bang—I was immediately floored and needed to find a copy. A year later I got a one from my friend Jeff in Chicago, which he paid 25¢ for, and gave to me in return for burning some old NYHC cassettes of his onto CDR’s (which literally took 5 years, sorry dude). Unbeknownst to me at the time, this record comes in a (highly-elusive and extremely cool looking) screen printed picture sleeve, which was missing from the copy I got. Still, not a bad deal on my end, but I’d still love to have a sleeve. Check out both songs here.

Expect this one to hit the $1,000 mark with ease.

Trivia: drummer Eric Spicer played drums for most of Naked Raygun’s existence
