Negative Approach EP hand colored cover

Remember the Mullet Board debates on whether Negative Approach or Antidote was the best 7″ of all time? Those were the days. And its been about that long since I’ve seen one of these. The NA 7″ is known to have hand colored sleeves, most of which also have messages written inside. Every one ive ever seen is different. Some just have the logo colored, some just the eyes, some the hair. I have two myself, one with a green face and one with a fully colored cover. Rumors of 100 being colored persist but gearstrip says there are 33 of them. I dont know where he got that number. Bottom line is its cool as fuck. The starting price is a bit high but this is where the big dogz play.

Hardcore essentials

A couple of top shelf rippers courtesy of robase

I saw these in person at the WFMU fair last month and I have to say that while these records are second pressings, I would throw down on them without question (if I didn’t have them already), as both are CLEAN AS FUCK — especially the SOA.

Also it’s cool that NA always cited SOA as a major influence, so you can grab one of the best HC 7″s ever and the record behind the record in one fell swoop.

Flyer Noize: Misfits Michigan Madness

Looks like if you wanted to catch the Misfits on a regular basis between 1981 and 1983 then Michigan was the place to be. Of course most of us werent around then for it but luckily rickyball was and saved some of these gems. Some are fairly “common” if you collect Misfits flyers and others are real rarities. I think this is the first time ive seen the Bookies flyer for sale. My personal fav is the Oct 29th 1983 flyer which is for the last Misfits show. Its not the best shape but its the rarer orange paper which is +1 level up if youre trying to catch em all.

Negative Approach 1st press – Touch And Go Tuesday

Another fine Touch & Go release from rickyball. This time its the best of the lot. The Negative Approach s/t 7″ 1st pressing with black labels. This is in my top 3 7″s for old hardcore along with Antidote and MT Filler. There is pretty much nothing cooler than owning one of these (except maybe a colored in cover or rejected test).

On the flip side i cant think of anything worse than the reissue of this 7″ as seen here from recordgraveyard.

Worst cover art ever? Wait no how about this?

I feel like I’ve been here before…

It’s like deja vu up in here. I feel like I have written about this awesome LP that deekymutombo is selling before… Have I?  Yes yes.  And not that long ago, but it is such an awesome record.  Hell, even the reunions haven’t ruined this record for me.  Maybe I am just let down that there were no comments calling me out on preferring this to the Negative Approach 7″.  I was kinda hoping for an argument.  Oh well.  Bid hard.

And if you disagree with me, bid harder!

Touch And Go (And Dischord)

Some more heavy hitters from pterosonus. These are some classic records from Touch And Go Records. You know you can’t go wrong with the Negative Approach EP. First press, black ink labels, limited to 1000. Very hot. Check Kyle’s seekingthesimple for more relevant pics (he is also selling vinyl now too, check his list).

And then there is the Necros EP. This was a split release on Touch And Go and Dischord Records. Imagine having both the labels on your dust sleeve. I can’t even imagine what the modern day equivalent would be. Maybe Schism / … for the 80s? I don’t think it can be done. I.Q. 32. Pretty sure this one is first press, green labels and all. Get into it.

BIN’d Down

BIN-priced first press copy of NA’s lp (with free shipping!) courtesy of my favorite seller of hardcore records and vintage porno mags, mr. krypt-of-kool. I never really paid much attention to the cover on this LP until recently, and I realized it might be one of the worst record covers of all time.

NA/Pick Your King.

Another pair of high priced, “questionable” items from xundergroundx

Now when I say “questionable”, I mean you should ask him a million questions, because he has a tendency to leave out need to know information until someone asks for it. He did it with the Pay To Cum he was trying to sell, he did it with Cause For Alarm ep we showed you yesterday, and if someone asks him about the NA 7 inch I bet that’s when he’ll finally mention that it’s 2nd press. The Pick Your King seems to have all the relevant info tho.

taking a Positive Approach to Negative Approach collecting!

lets be honest, well all love Negative Approach! I know there are some people out there that don’t really like Youth of Today or maybe they just can’t get into the Bad Brains, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say they didn’t like Negative Approach! I was super psyched because when I went to the Tesco Vee book signing/talk for the Touch & Go book John Brannon was there and I got him to sign the cover of my book… bonus!

Now, I may have a signed Touch & Go book, but I still don’t have an original NA 7″ yet. I’m holding out for a 1st press, but the problem is they are all out of my price range. I did recently pick up a copy of the Touch & Go reissue version and the Taang! 7″ of unreleased material and both are awesome. I actually talked to John about the cover of the reissue and he just said that they couldnt use the original because they would have gotten sued so he just had a friend redraw it. I didnt want to push my opinion on the cover (its pretty shitty!) so I just shut up, but I really wish they would have just put it in a plain black sleeve insted of what they did!

More Jeff Nelson…

Another batch of treats from Jeff Nelson, this time of the paper goods variety. I know I’ve said it before, but it’s amazing the amount of stuff this guy hung on to, and how detailed his notes are about everything he sells. Also, everything is typically in perfect shape — I’ve bought copies of both of these flyers from him and they were in absolutely flawless condition.

This show is pretty legendary, I know there are bootlegs of both the Minor Threat and SSD sets kicking around on vinyl (the SSD one looks like a 7″ sized Kids Will Have Their Say and has great stage banter) and I’m pretty sure the insert pics from Out of Step were taken at this show.

OK, I gotta admit that as big of a Pushead fan that I am, his early work is pretty hit or miss and this one definitely falls more to the miss side (though a humorous miss). Killer lineup though.

4 To Give Thanks For.

It’s Thanksgiving. No words are necessary.

(kind of a high BIN, but it’s not like these don’t get pricey so I’ll let it slide.)

Negative Approach for One of Our Own

If you follow this site, you know that our very own Josh has been dying to get his hands on this EP. Thanks to deathtothesickoids, he now has his opportunity, I think. You see, Josh has been holding out for that first press EP. Lately, we’ve only been seeing 2nd presses (or that 2010 press … shiver…). But this one appears to be the real deal first press. Have at it, Josh. Alas, the a-side isn’t pictured, so I may have to eat my words …

NA ep

My buddy Jay from Providence is unloading some stuff, mostly of the powerpop and synthpunk variety (ie, stuff people here aren’t interested in), but he has this cheap first press copy of the NA ep up…

Looks like the vinyl isn’t in tip-top shape, but you get some sound clips to see what’s up, so if you’re not super anal about condition this might slip by pretty cheap. I’ll vouch for the quality of his grading, so if someone here wins this and isn’t happy with it, I’ll let you punch Morgado in the arm.

ENDING IN SIX HOURS!

What cheese-borger has for sale here is one of my top (non Boston Hardcore) record wants. I’m being really picky about it becuase I’m holding out for a 1st press which means I may never have one, but thats okay for now. A while ago I found out that Choke from Slapshot used to have a colored cover one… I would kill for that!

Since most of us will never have a 1st press and we will definitly not have a colored cover version, we can check out this auction from England. This is the official Touch & Go reissue of the Negative Approach 7″. In all honesty this 7″ isnt out yet, it comes out on October 12th so just head over to www.TGRec.com and order one when it comes out.

I’m really not a huge fan of the cover art redrawn like this. It was done by Craig Halloway who has done a ton of hardcore art in the last few years including the Agnostic Front ‘Warriors’ LP and the recent Negative Approach 7″ of ‘lost tracks’ on Taang! As far as I know the 7″ cover is going to be in black and white, but Craig also did a color versions that I found on his Myspace page so I put that below too. I think it looks better in color, but I would really have prefered they just left it the way it was.
