Thou Shalt Not Blow The Entire Month’s Grocery Budget

Time for the heavy hitters to come out! redscrollstore has an absolute rager of NYHC up for grabs.

Thou Shalt Not Kill is considered more of a museum piece than a hardcore record these days. Rare as hell. Even rarer to find it in good condition as most of the covers yellow and curl with time. It’s been bootlegged and reissued and still the original keeps going up in value.

This auction started yesterday at $1 and turned into $100 in a hurry. You have got to like the balls of a seller who can start low and let the market dictate the value.

It will be fun to see how much this ends up selling for. Half a mortgage payment? Family of four grocery bill?
I’m only asking because I’m thinking of taking a run at it and want to see how much trouble I will be in.

This life is just a game

I love this comp. The problem is most of the time it takes me like 5 tries to get past the first song because I keep rewinding to the beginning when its over. dolo74 is selling the double LP version of this famous tape cassette compilation.

Gorilla Biscuits – At The Matinee

Seller prepareforbattle has a really nice copy of the Gorilla Biscuits “At The Matinee” 7″ up right now.

The record coincided with, and was sold on, the Gorilla Biscuits 2006 reunion tour. 1000 were pressed, all on grey vinyl. It was originally supposed to be released on Revelation Records, but something happened as the band ended up doing it themselves. It must have been last minute as the vinyl matrix has REV141 etched in.

1000 pressed seems like a lot, but these things just keep getting more and more expensive. With a couple days left, this one is holding steady at a reasonable price. We will see how long that lasts.

If you are Brazilian or Italian, sorry guys you might as well move on. prepareforbattle has no love for your postal systems and would rather sell to the rest of the planet. Better luck next time.

TPT: Drunk at the youth of today reunion

Well this is the second test pressing that stab_and_kill has put up in the past 24 hours. This is not only a test press, but also features a limited edition cover, and hand numbered #11. This record came out towards the end of the Slumlords era, but featured the very popular song “Drunk at the Youth of Today reunion”

We all love a good YOT reunion.

Judge (not) Chung King!

Have you ever scrolled too quickly through ebay only to hurriedly jump back up because you thought you saw a holy grail? Happened to me with this Judge record being sold by kfcforlife. The picture sucked me (just like I’m hoping the title of this blog did …). Of course, it’s the 10″ bootleg. Surprised he didn’t mention what number it was … LOL.

Want more Judge merch? Peep this link.

PS. You can get it for ONE CENT cheaper from japa70 over here.

Our Gang demos

Couple of great tapes here from my man adversewind, ending tonight and still both under $10 as I write this.

First up is Our Gang’s classic Uprising demo from ’88, nine songs of ripping hardcore that always stood out to me because of the sheer speed, something that wasn’t as prevalent in this era of NYHC. Guitarist Lew told me they were heavily influenced by NYC Mayhem early on, and it really shows here.

The second tape is kind of an odd duck in that it was released after the band broke up, primarily sold via the classified section in MRR. Some of the tracks were intended to be on a 7″ on Smorgasbord, but for whatever reasons that record never saw the light of day. The 7″ tracks aren’t quite the HC rippers that the Uprising demo is chock full of, but are more melodic and remind me of LP-era Turning Point. Cool stuff but far from my favorite style of hardcore.

If you’re not a tape guy/gal, there’s a nice collection that has tracks from both of these tapes on one handy LP, released a couple years ago by Jack Roy Records. Look it up (or download it here direct from the label).

cXa !Citizens Arrest! cXa

I’m taking a stroll down memory lane this week. I posted some Slapshot (Duh!), Jerry’s Kids and The Inflatable Children LP and now I present to you some Citizens Arrest! I saw these guys a ton of times back in the day in Providence, but sadly I haven’t gotten to see them since they got back together.

This isn’t a classic cXa release, but its still cool. Dead End Records did this nice gatefold of Light in the Darkness + 2 comp tracks. The total pressing was 600 copies and they are numbered out of 600, but there was actually 200 of each color.I cant remember exactly when this came out, but it was in the last year or two and you can find all three versions in the record graveyard

DYNAMO – Police State, not for free

I kick myself every time I see this Dynamo 7″ which is being sold here by coldstares. I remember getting out of shows at CBGB (might have been CroMags shows?) and these were being given away for free outside to exiting concert goers. I didnt take one, because I am stupid. This record is really cool and under appreciated. Also kind of hard to find and fetches a decent penny. Do yourself a favor and bid.

AF – VICTIM IN Shrinkwrap

Heres a lesson for anyone putting out records. If you want your records to still be looking nice a long time after they come out, DON’T give them a solid white or black cover. No matter what you do, even if you keep it in plastic its going to get dirty looking. Its fucking annoying. That’s why i love that this Victim In Pain is still in its original shrinkwrap, keeps it nice and classy. Yeah its the 86 repress with the pussy cover (the first pussy cover not the new version pussy cover) but still highly desirable in my book, especially given that it has no wear. chainxcrew does it again

CRO MAGS Near Death Experience

Hey hardcore, this record sucks. I realize some of you want to sound cool and tell all your friends you like it, but it sucks. That said, I’m sure chainxcrew will get decent money for it from some poor soul.

Rest In Pieces – I before E, except after C

straightray is not letting up on the crucial hardcore vinyl. When I first heard the name Rest In Pieces, I wasn’t immediately drawn to the band, or itching to hear them. Later I found out Armand sang for them and the line up was basically the Alleyway Crew in some form backing him up. With each layer of this bands history that I peeled back there was always something cooler beneath the surface. As someone who knew Roadrunner Records very well in the late 90s I was surprised to learn of the connection there as well. The promo pic on the back of that LP? Somethin’ else! The song titles on this album are some of the best. Top shelf hilarity. Something for perspective…Pound for Pound I like RIP more than I do SOIA. I only really get into the demo/ep/lp for SOIA, but for RIP I celebrate their whole catalogue beginning with The Nose Demo.

heres a good clip:

How NOT To Sell Records Vol. ?

Every once in a while someone here posts about what NOT to do when selling records on eBay. Today I found a GREAT example:

RARE 80S PUNK 7″ EP KBD REV RECORDS W INSERT with BIN: $200

Take a wild guess what this is. I will tell you that it’s a record that usually sells like fresh croissants in the morning. Not for the asking $200 but yeah, it’s something you all want.

I am actually astonished at how modernist65 managed to amass a whooping 6000+ feedbacks with auctions as poorly titled and as unreasonably priced as this one. One would think this is an exception but there are tons of gems in there if you want to waste few minutes to browse through the 3,653 auctions you can find a lot more. I am sure lads at Tee Till Death would have a go at few things there as well, like this or this for example but let’s get back to out mystery auction.

The seller seems to be a very thorough person because he went into trouble of taking 6 very decent photos of the record and the description is very informative but what on earth was he thinking typing this idiotic auction title?

Where The Red Things Are

straightray continues to offload his collection this week, and this one has only 5 hours or so left and it sitting pretty at only $20… although the reserve has not been met. This is the red vinyl pressing of the ‘New York Hardcore – Where The Wild Things Are’ compilation. This was put out by Blackout Records circa 1989, and is at least the second or third best NY hardcore comp made. Some great bands and great jams on this. You get Outburst, Raw Deal, Sheer Terror, Norman Bates And the Showerheads, and a cheeky Gorilla Biscuits song tucked on the end. I’ve never actually seen a red vinyl copy in real life, but I’ve heard from plenty of people that the red ones are all really thin vinyl and most were warped. Not sure if this is true or not, but this copy looks to be in pretty good shape to me, and I’d be all over this thing if I didn’t have bigger fish to fry this month.

“It belongs in a musuem!” – New Breed Tape Comp

Seller gametworecords has this lovely compilation that was first released back in ’89 by Fred Alva & Chaka Malik. I am not fully aware of the roles and responsibilities that each person undertook in putting this whole package together, but from what I can tell Feddy has taken charge recently in re-releasing this thing of his, on vinyl. Its a double vinyl package, with ultimately the same artwork/booklet included. There’s a small write up included for added context. It’s a top notch product.

I know some demo tapes can have a final auction price of say 30-80 bucks…if you really think about it, thats about 10 bucks a song. sometimes twice that. This compilation has more than 20 songs from the nude breed. That’s a lot of bang for your (uncle) buck.

With that being said, here is the original artifact (“it belongs in a museum!”) up for sale. If I recall correctly, one year when Cold World was playing the FU fest in Toronto, Alex introduced one of their songs the same way Outburst did Controlled on that tape. Asking the crowd why they don’t seem to mosh for a particular song, cuz he really liked it. It was pretty funny. As well if you’ve never seen the NB Book, you might want to attach your monocle so you can see how cool the back page is of the book which shows an Outburst ad with MJ23 jamming THE HARDWAY.

**Please take note that you can buy the Double LP Version directly from Freddy from the revived Wardance Records bigcartel store: http://wardancerecords.bigcartel.com/product/pre-order-new-breed-tape-compilation-lp
