Shall be tickled pink

Seller pwktn has a record for us that does no wrong. For the past few years of Hallowe’en I’ve wanted to make paper maché masks as featured on the back of the sleeve.

Who the heck wouldn’t be tickled pink to receive this record. Does Morgodo have this record yet? The colours in this picture are poppin’. I first heard this record in my early 20′s at a record store in Montreal purely because it was on REV. This wasn’t the first time I heard the band though. I had picked up a used copy of the cleanse cd in hikeschool. Kinda funny being exposed to this band through that release. The cover of this ep is so weird. It almost looks like a photo was taken of a 5th generation vhs live set while being played on someone’s tv. I often wonder who the BURN heads are. You gotta understand I come from the Canadian Shield so we don’t really cross paths too often. I’ve always thought that BURN has gotta be for the well versed hc types. Those a bit more schooled, and developed palates of aiche see. The photo insert and design therein, is pretty tight. A very brooding urban setting.

** For those really into HC minutiae I read in a zine a while back that REV 21 & 22 were released on the very same day…imagine that.

Thankful For This Gig: 10-30-99

Since it’s Thanksgiving, I’ll give you a run down on a gig I’m thankful for. Hell, I’m thankful on the whole month of gigs, but this one gig was just stupendous. The It All Comes Down To This record release at the Worcester Palladium on October 30th, 1999. Keep in mind, this was less than two weeks after the “last” Ten Yard Fight gig (National Edge Day). I had also just got back from a week long vacation in New Orleans. Solid end of the month.

This particular gig was Bane (of course), Converge, Reach The Sky and Dillinger Escape Plan. Talk about a stacked lineup. And like I said, just weeks after the first Nat’l Edge Day gig. Crazy, to say the least. The joint was PACKED. Crazy packed. For a lineup like that, I’d expect nothing else. Every band seemed to play perfect sets. Nothing super long, just action packed. The pit never seemed to slow down. Solid gig.

You can pick up the limited record release merch from neal_taflinger (why is that name ringing a bell?). I’m tempted to pop on this auction myself. My size medium tee has shrunk over the years (no, it wasn’t me getting fat …), and it wouldn’t hurt to have an extra copy on pink vinyl. Pink is what you get when your attempt to swirl red and white go sour. Whoops. Limited to 100.

* It was a toss up on whether I should post this here or on TTD. Tell your shirt friends about this one, as it’s a great tshirt. First time the skull was used in the A…

Shall Be Judged

I keep a list of every show I’ve ever attended. Yes, that’s how I roll. Detail oriented. But for a while in 2000 and 2001, I fell off. I stopped updating it. And there is this one Bane gig in Philly that will forever elude me. I just can’t remember where or when it was, and I can’t find anyone who knows what I’m talking about. So I asked a few older Philly dudes, and they listed off some likely venues. Killtime, 4040, Rotunda … But one of the dudes also pointed out some youtube clips that might jog my memory better. One of the videos he pointed out was for the Burn reunion in 2001 at the Rotunda. Watch it.

Am I crazy, or is this crowd populated by mannequins and wallflowers? Holy fucking shit. When Godhead is played, you mosh. That should be the first rule of hardcore. I’m judging this crowd, and I think they could do better. I see that Tim, Traci and Brett know the rule. Plus a few others. Then compare it to this Marquee show in 91. These guys know the rules.

Or hell, what about this Twisters show in 98?

Grab this from handsomephantom.

Ps. Is Brett Beach in ALL of those videos? Crazy

Strife – Begin To Care

I’ve been sitting on this second pic for WAY too long, just waiting for the right Strife item to appear on ebay. Thanks to in_vinyl_we_trust, my wish has come true. This pink EP is the 2010 repress. Not the full blast Sound And Fury press, but still dope. The second pic, however, so good. Rick telling you how it is, Andrew with a disapproving glare. This is a good one. I laughed when I stumbled across it on The Hundreds. No idea what the event was, but the pic is great. Not sure how caring Rick is in the pic though …

Stock Collection – Brotherhood LP

I think this particular color wax copy of this record would qualify as “sexy”. That is one dope looking slab of wax. statement-of-pride may be a little dyslexic though as he typed out the pressing info twice as being out of 25 but its out of 52 according to Crucial Responses web page.
I think there is a eenough of these though to be able to pick one up on black wax. Youll be glad you did. It always looks dope in anyones collection and dont lie cause if you own this you know you probably spent way too much time over the years just staring at that cover photo!

1st press: 807 black vinyl, 273 green vinyl (a few are on solid green vinyl*). Comes with live photo insert. The back edge of the sleeve is white.
2nd press: 1569 black vinyl, 375 pink vinyl, 52 swirled vinyl. Comes with a Brotherhood Seattle Hardcore insert. The back edge of the sleeve is black.
3rd press: 1523 black vinyl, 101 of the black vinyl come with silkscreen sleeves (raw data No. 14), 320 white vinyl. White vinyl version has poster as bonus. Third press has different backcover and labels. Plus, the lyrics are printed on a seperate sheet

Rev Collection – Burn

Maybe my favorite Rev release depending on the day. Def my #1 or #2 live bands ive seen(i was LUCKY enough to catch them 8 times). This record is great and the price always exceeds the “last great sea” ep which confuses me a bit. This is out of 1000 on pink while the “last great sea” is out of 300ish and both records are arguably tied in greatness but in terms of selling price wise no one seems to give a shit about “last great sea”. More for me I guess :)

My Fire Burns On

While packing up some items for Naidoo, I recalled how much fun I had at the last Strife show in Proivdence. It really was a blast. Of course, I’m packing up a few items which Naidoo was afraid would never hit the e-store. So he’s getting a tshirt and a 2XL hood. Of course, lots of these items can now be had on their e-store. All good. Glad to support the band while they rolled through town. Of course, they had tees but no vinyl. If you want vinyl, you’ll have to check with sixfeetunderrecords or in_vinyl_we_trust. SFU has the limited Sound And Fury press, while the other has the slightly more available pink vinyl repress. Both are ill and good grabs. Do it up.

(Tee) Till Death

Till Death rolled out of Redding, Cali like gang busters. Before Set It Straight, there was Till Death. This EP dropped on Phantom Records back in 2004 and includes a Cro-Mags cover. I generally frown on recorded Cro-Mags covers (see the American Nightmare cover for more information). I can’t recall how this one sounds so whoever wins this ep from warm_jets, please let me know. Big fan of the individually sprayed cover. Limited to 50. Collector scum, get it on!

One Stop Shopping – The Nerve Agents

Seller punk_n_disorderly24 has a bit of a bargain going on right now. It’s one big old lot full of Nerve Agent goodies. You get the 1998 self titled LP on grey vinyl (limited to 222), the 2002 Final Press of the self titled LP on grey vinyl (limited to 407). You also get the Days Of The White Owl LP from 2000 on pink vinyl (limited to 338). And finally, the Mankind Records split EP with Kill Your Idols on clear green vinyl. That’s one stop shopping for the goods (minus the Butterfly Collection of 2001 from Hellcat Records … Did this even come on vinyl??). The buy it now is pretty reasonable and with free shipping from the UK, you could scoop a bargain. Have at it.

And if you just want the one LP on grey vinyl, go hit up thevonroyale. He ALSO has free shipping. Or is this the guy Cooch hates?? Continue reading »

Strife Sound And Fury 2010 EP

Honestly, I’m surprised it took this long for one of these to pop up on ebay. I wonder how andrewbaker123 held out so long. It’s been almost two weeks since this dropped.

Regardless, this EP came out pretty dope. The boys of Strife really should get a pat on the back for this one. Lots of love went into it. You can read Andrew Kline’s full description over on Tradition Shop Blog. He gives the full description on the Eyeone redesign. Kudos to those boys …

If you don’t fee like spending the loot on this record on ebay, keep your eyes peeled on this blog going forward. You may see an interesting contest or two coming your way …

I Told You Verse …

… wouldn’t be collecting records this year.

All of these come directly from Eric of Verse. Obviously, if provenance is your thing, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Get into it. And help a brother out.

This one is limited to 23. You can’t beat that!

It’s a Malfunction!

Malfunction Records was this dope little label out of Washington DC. They released a ton of great albums from DC/ Virginia based bands.

After a few years, they ended up merging with Deathwish Inc. You can still get the full back catalog from Deathwish Inc.

But here are a few great gap fillers for you Malfunction Record completists. Some excellent test presses and great tour presses for Worn Thin and Count Me Out. Count Me Out … So good.

Rev Collection – Burn on pink

Maybe my favorite rev release? Love everything about this record. Chaka is def in my list of top frontmen ever. I was lucky enough to see Burn about 8 times and each time they killed!
