Poison Idea – Darby Crash Repress TEST

Before you get too excited, no this isn’t the original Poison Idea Darby Crash Rides Again 7″ on American Leather Records. Actually it isn’t even close. For starters it’s a 12″…

However, it is a very nice looking test for the expanded repress released last year on TKO Records. This version contains the Darby demo, Boner’s Kitchen demo, a live radio show and some “Record Collectors” outtakes.

According to the description from seller scummie-66 this was personalized to, and comes right from, singer Jerry A.’s collection. It is number 5 of 25 total pressed.

The Darby demos are some of the very earliest material the band ever recorded. Seriously, not a bad pickup for a decent price. Plus, it’s Poison Idea. It’s all good.

Poison Idea – Pick Your King on Clear

Poison Idea – Pick Your King. One of the best hardcore punk 7″‘s to ever be released. I know that fellow poster Cooch can attest to that. No need to dive to deep into the tracks on this one, this release has been covered enough on this website. Taken from this blog about the “First Press” on clear. These were technically pressed second after the black vinyl copies due to a mix up at the pressing plant, but they were released to the public first. Seller 2wussy2‘s auction includes both inserts one was a sticker one was a lyric sheet. Check it out!

Pick your Pick Your King

It’s no secret that this is basically my favorite hardcore record ever. I think everyone should own a copy or six, and here are a couple to choose from:

Seller butchcass0 brings us THE version to own, for true ballers only. I’m sure I’ve posted this before a hundred times (too lazy to check) but Malcolm from Fatal Erection told me him and Pig bought a big bag of blow and stayed up all weekend putting these sleeves together. Better email that seller first though and see if there are any inserts.

And for you budget-minded buyers, ship.wreck over on the other side of the pond brings us a third press on blue wax. These were issued in 1985 by Pig himself without the help of Mr. Malcolm. Hopefully an American buyer will do us all a favor and bring this back home where it belongs. Please and thank you.

PICK YOUR KING

Another baller status platter that matters from record_lover, and pretty much the best hardcore record ever in my humble opinion. The price on these things has been freakin skyrocketing lately, and unfortunately this one doesn’t show any signs of going cheap.

Funny thing most people don’t know about this record is that the black vinyl was actually pressed first, but the clear was released to the public first (due to a pressing plant screw-up). So technically clear is the second press, but no one really cares because it’s definitely the cooler looking version.

Get Your Wallets Out.

If you want to bid on any of these test’s from scummie-66, you’re gonna have to have your wallet handy. They’re all started high, due to the fact that the bands whose names adorn these tests are mostly legends. We’ve got Poison Idea, Dead Kennedys, Adolescents… I think it’s gonna be a good Test Press Tuesday.

Flyer Noize On Vinyl Noize!

All these old NYHC/NY show flyers and ads from sellers matthewlooney and gernblandsten are ending today, so I figured that meant we were due for an installment of Flyer Noize. Many of these don’t have any bids, so hopefully you can scoop some up for cheap, leaving enough left over for some frames.

Don’t be afraid to come party down with us over on Tee Till Death, where we have even more flyers and ads from these two stellar sellers!

Poison Idea TPT

Lots of cool shit up this week from misfou over in Germany, including a TON of test presses.

Here are a couple of Poison Idea test presses on Bitzcore (also from Germany). They were the first label to reissue Record Collectors Are Pretentious Assholes, and this is a rare case of the reissue actually being better than the original — you get 4 extra songs (recorded for comps) and the mix is markedly better than the original Fatal Erection pressing. Not sure how many of these were made, but I’m guessing it’s a little higher than the usual 8-10 that labels normally get.

Dutch Courage was released in 1991 to thwart a bootleg of the same show, and isn’t the most exciting live release ever, but it’s still a cool addition to a PI collection. Nice that it comes with a cover as well.

Feel The Darkness

Here’s a real corker from artpunkfool over on the other side of the pond…

I know this LP seems to be the status quo favorite Poison Idea record, but I’d have to rank it third behind War All The Time and Kings Of Punk. Probably the most big hits on this one though.

I feel like there have to be a ton of these tests out there, everything on Vinyl Solution was promo’d with them (even mentioned by the seller in the listing) and I’ve personally owned three copies. But still, it’s a test press of one of the best hardcore records ever, so have at it.

War All The Time

A couple of years ago I decided to make a blog to document every Poison Idea pressing I could find and I started scanning records like crazy, but it all fell the wayside for whatever reasons. The other night I got the idea to actually put the thing together, and the (beginning) results can be seen here.

Anyways, here’s my favorite PI lp… I’m not sure how popular of an opinion that is, but fuck it, it’s the best. Here’s a copy for a measly five bucks, someone better buy this thing.

The seller, valutunes, has a lot of other cool shit up too, but unfortunately it’s not genre specific so you need to wade through 3,500+ auctions to find what you’re looking for. Have at it.

Poison Idea/Necros.

The last time I posted about these two records, Cooch and I went back and forth over whether or not I was picking on the seller. Well, I have nothing to pick on state-children for, because he does everything I like. Clear pictures, low starts, etc. All the stuff that, to me, makes for well done, and from the looks of things, deservedly successful auctions.

Tapes, Tapes & More Tapes!

This is another one of those tape collections that looks like it could have been mine with the exception of the Rollins tape because I had that on CD.

I actually got a promo of that Rollins Band album from Henry when he came to the Newbury Comics warehouse for a visit/promotion stop. His record label bought everyone in the warehouse pizza and we got to hang out with Hank. I got a copy of “Get In The Van” signed by him that day which I still have.

Two best things I remember about that day:
1. When we walked into the big conference room where all the pizza was someone said “The vegan pizza is at this end of the table” and Henry said “Yeah for all the pussys”

2. Usually when someone ‘famous’ came to the warehouse they would let them look around and if they found something they wanted they could have it free. I remember Henry being super psyched and taking 3-4 Wesley Willis CDs that he said he had been looking for.

barfight has a few more cassette lots up so if you’re into that check them out!

NA/Pick Your King.

Another pair of high priced, “questionable” items from xundergroundx

Now when I say “questionable”, I mean you should ask him a million questions, because he has a tendency to leave out need to know information until someone asks for it. He did it with the Pay To Cum he was trying to sell, he did it with Cause For Alarm ep we showed you yesterday, and if someone asks him about the NA 7 inch I bet that’s when he’ll finally mention that it’s 2nd press. The Pick Your King seems to have all the relevant info tho.

Punk staples

Seller odder7 has a nice assortment of stuff up at the moment, and these are four LPs I think everyone should own… and you can’t go wrong with those 99 cent opening bids.

1. Poison Idea – Kings Of Punk
Maybe my favorite PI LP, so much so that I own at least 7-8 versions of it. A steamroller of an LP, the opening bass lick of Lifestyles is one of the most destructive sounding things ever. Original pressing on Pusmort.

2. Zero Boys – Vicious Circle LP
Increasingly-hard-to-find orig Nimrod Records pressing of this punkcore classic, if you can’t tap your toes to this record you probably don’t have a pulse.

3. Subhumans – Incorrect Thoughts LP
Like the Zero Boys, this one’s a great slab of tuneful punk just on the verge of hardcore (see also: DOA, Kraut, Personality Crisis). IMO the better of the two Subhumans.

4. TSOL – s/t 12″
Never really got into anything else by this band, but I really love this record. I saw them live maybe 4-5 years ago in Berkeley, CA and they still tore it up, I distinctly remember the bass player ripping his own shirt off Hulk Hogan style in the middle of the set without missing a note.

Get Loaded and Fuck

Two of my favorite Poison Idea collectibles… the band released these themselves around ’89, and I believe there are only 200 or 250 made of each.

The Plastic Bomb/We Got The Beat cassingle has the insanely raging alternate version of Plastic Bomb that didn’t make it to the Feel The Darkness LP, I always wondered why they chose to include the lesser version on the LP. The cassette was then bootlegged on a 7″ by some unscrupulous Euros and then the band retaliated with the Official Bootleg double 7″ (which included the tape and two extra tracks).

Get Loaded and Fuck is a band-released version of the Ian Mackaye 12″, which includes 3/4 of the Filthkick 7″ plus the two songs from the Getting The Fear 12″ and one unreleased song (Burned For The Last Time). Contrary to the auction write-up, I’m pretty sure this tape came out after Filthkick (but before Ian Mackaye). Essential listening and an essential piece for a complete PI collection.
