Le Cyanide a partir de l’Angleterre

One of my most favourite bands from the 70s. There was a time when I would listen to the Fireball track off the Back Stage Pass comp about 600 times a day on average. What’s amazing about CYANIDE is that unlike many of their contemporaries that released 2-3 great records and then “changed direction”, they knew when to break up and ended their carrier with a record that in my humble opinion was their best.

keefaz1 here has a lovely Vive La French pressing of their only LP. keefaz1 says the record/cover are in MINT- condition and in the very same line he states “seam split / wear on upper edge”.. So what is it??? Is it MINT? or does it have seam splits? Skipping on the fact that there are no MINT records from 1978 unless they have been kept in a hermetically sealed box for 34 years far from any life forms. Otherwise they are at best in good shape. I want to know who was the first to come up with this grading nonsense that “in record collection good means bad”

I have never heard a bigger load of shite. Anything that has splits to the spine is automaticalli in “fair” or “poor” condition. “Mint” means “new”. I really hope that the 98798675329675239476523 ebay sellers who think they’re vinyl experts and put record with seam splits into the “mint” category would have that branded on their mongoloid foreheads.

Anyway, if you are not a perfectionist pick this one up because it is well worth adding to any collection.

BLITZ test pressing limited to around 15,000-20,000

Since it’s Test Press Tuesday why not post a test press?
After last time I posted a BLITZ test pressing that turned out to be a shitty boot maybe this time around things will turn out a bit better
xundergroundx has a very rare and way OOP! TEST PRESSING of the 1st Blitz 7″.

One may think that at a $100 BIN this would be a bargain you would be stupid not to jump on until you realize that hypstr66 has the same record (slightly mis-described as the 1st press which it isn’t) sitting at 4 quid with some 2+ days to go

Since there were 25,000 of All Out Attack pressed in total and we know for sure there was 1000 of the 1st press with stamped labels that leaves us with 24,000 to split between the 2nd and 3rd press. Since the 3rd pressing is fairly hard to come by and the 2nd pops up on ebay just about every day for breakfast I’d say 15,000-20,000 of the blank labels 2nd press vs. 4,000-9,000 of the printed labels 3rd pressing with me personally leaning toward the 2nd 20,000 and 3rd 4,000 estimate, only because I see the blank labels version all the time and the 3rd press not all that often. I wonder if I’m far off in this estimate?

What I really want is the 2nd pressing with pinkish labels. Someone please sell/trade me one!!

The Nipple Erectors vs. The Nips

In the Slaughter post I mentioned Shane and Shanne which made me want to look if there were any Nipple Erectors / Nips records on right now. Quick search later and I bring you the 1st 7″ being sold by popclassics

and from the same seller the 2nd 7″ after they had shortened the name to The Nips:

Be quick on those as you don’t reall have ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD to win them auctions. I’d say about 5 hrs tops…
I’m way too young for this but I’d love to hear some teds vs. punk stories. If anyone has some please share. I always wondered how the Nips managed to pull this rockabilly sound/teddy boys look and still be accepted in the scene that wasn’t very teds friendly. It just shows how wide and open was the scene right at the very beginning before it became all uniformized.

SLAUGHTER AND THE DOGS will tear you apart!

Does anyone remember Don Letts The Punk Rock Movie? I used to have a VHS copy of the movie that was beat to shit and I would take photos of the bands straight off the TV screen with my mom’s old Russian LOMO CMEHA cam. I still had some of them in my dorm room in the 1st grade of high school along with a photocopy of some UK magazine page on which there was a photo of a dude with the hand made jacket that said SLAUGHTER AND THE DOGS WILL TEAR YOU APART.
The Slaughter footage from the Letts’ movie is beyond amazing. Trench coat covered with flour? Backed.. Check out young Shane MacGowan aka Shane O’Hooligan (back then the editor of the Bondage zine) pogoing in the opening sequence with the tit flashing bird who I think could be Shanne from The Nipple Erectors (anyone out there can confirm/deny this?)

After you have seen the video there’s absolutely no reason why you wouldn’t want to pick up this reasonably priced single from conflict6.
If your vinyl nerd meter is set to high you can enquire with the seller as to which version he’s selling as there were four different ones. Check for the comparison here.

Another state of mind

I don’t know who tgorder2012 is, but they have a gem on their hands. 1982 Social Distortion 1945 7″ on under my thumb records. I can’t even tell how rare this thing is because most of them were probably destroyed by shitty socal punkers living in craptastic apartments. I don’t know why I think that, but whatever. This was back when Mike Ness was going for that “sympathetic look.” This record is probably worth over $100 bucks or so, and the bid is only $40

Am I too late for Test Press Tuesday?

That’s too bad. I have just stumbled upon this lovely BLITZ Moscow/Propaganda test being sold by multichamp123. Supposedly only 2 of these exist which makes the $199 BIN quite appealing. If I am correct this is the last one of the REAL Blitz records before half of the band quit and the other half turned into a horrible new wave moany rubbish. I wish I could UNlisten that outrageous Telecommunication record… ugh..
This one on the other hand is packed with two classic street anthems that for some reason aren’t as popular as the songs from first three 7″s. Weird because these are great. Have I had the spare $200 I would be buying this instead of writing about it. Oh well… can’t have them all.

GERMS Lexicon Devil? Take your pick

Looks like our new resident poster chainxcrew is going to make out fairly well on this one. Already up to $600 in the first day. Maybe its due to the fact that he is giving the buyer the option to choose which of the TWO mint condition copies they want from him. The word mint is often thrown around and abused when it shouldnt be, but this dude knows his stuff and these are top copies. Go big or go home.

The History of No Future??? Does that even make sense?

In punk it just might. In those ancient times before music looked like this: 01000100111100011000111110001100011 you needed to make a tad bit of effort to look up new bands. It was the time when compilations actually served a purpose, giving you a nice summary of what this or that band was all about and as far as good comps go this one is right up there near the top of the pile. It’s got everything you could ever want from a good comp: great bands with amazing songs, cool looking cover and to top that it’s on colour vinyl. Seller robotarm brings you the lesson in the history of the future that never happened. Pink vinyl limited to 500 or so they say.

If you feel there’s no room for you and you hate the cozzers…

…then this is for you.
DEMOB is one of those bands that break up after a couple of 7″s and make you wish there was an LP. Well, there isn’t one so here we are stuck with 2 little records that are well beyond a “must have”. It’s more like a “must MUST have”.
Back in 1979 the band somehow convinced the authorities to let them play some sort of a carnival(?) in Gloucester which ended in a bit of a mayhem between the punks in attendance and the bikers. Of course there was the old bill intervention and the whole carnival parade had to be shut down. No wonder why the first release (1st pressing with a fold out poster cover in EXCELLENT shape brought to you by misericordkid) has a slight hint of an anti-cozzer vibe.

The first time I actually heard DEMOB was when I was in maybe 3rd or 4th grade. Someone bootlegged the “Punk And Disorderly” LP and you could buy them boot tapes at every music street vendor for virtually pennies. Me and EVERYONE I knew at the time, we all was listening to that “Punk And Disorderly” tape from the moment we woke up to the moment we went to sleep. And that was where I first heard “No Room For You”.
I couldn’t get a hold of the whole 7″ recording until years years later but that one song was a permanent part of the soundtrack to me growing up.

geoff4e2011 here will be happy to hook you up with a nice looking copy of the record.

Nothing sells like disaster, LET IT BE : Scab Aid

Back in 1985 Bobby G., scratch that, Sir Bobby G. organized a gig at the Wembley Stadium in London in order to scrap some cash together to send sandwiches and some used clothes to Ethiopia. He’s a lovely lad Sir Bobby, he is. Bless him. I will not get into politics here, everybody knows that we’ve been arse raping Africa for centuries and a wagon of sandwiches won’t solve the problem but people do enjoy the flare. Just look at Paul here. Sorry, scratch that again. Just look at Sir Paul here:

Fortunately, some people can see through the ton of shite thrown at you by the media and name things for what they are. penger2 brings you a little Chumbawamba record adressing the issue of Africa and the involvement of the world’s music creme de la creme.

Nothing bleeds like the hearts of the millionaires…

And this is Steve Wright, we hope that those that lost relatives in this terrible disaster may be able to have a better life as a result of this great record
This great record
This great record
(repeat)
Watchers pray in times of trouble
Restless by the harbor wall
Waiting for the stormy winds to fall
With microphone and TV camera
Money and tears and a song to sing
This is where the buy and sell begins
For media and for industry
Consumers of the world agree
Nothing sells like disaster, let it be
This manufactured sympathy, drowing in hypocrisy
Smiles to clinch the deals to boost the sales
All the owners of the printing presses
And popstars crying phony tears
Nothing bleeds like the hearts of the millionaires
For the charts and the state machine
Consumers of the world agree
Nothing sells like disaster, let it be
Greed and lies and economics
A captains’ crew to make the rules
And a band to play the waltz on this ship of fools
Media sales
Media sales
For profit, stars, and company
Consumers of the world agree
Nothing sells like disaster, let it be
Nothing sells like disaster, let it be

God Save the Digital Era

We live in the times when your fridge magnets come with in-built 9 Mega Pixel digital cameras but mrbpaxwell2 finds an excuse to not post photos of the $11,000 (Reserve price not met) record he is selling. Maybe it’s because he lives in a fascist regime and is ruled by a no human being? Or maybe because they made him a moron? Who knows.. Or maybe it’s just because he doesn’t care either way because there obviously is in NO FUTURE?

In any case, if your daddy owns at least 30% of the Chevron stock feel free to meet the reserve and pick this up

On a side note, you always hear them uber boring stories like “My wife was a secretary at A&M and her boss gave her 3 copies. I sold one in the 80s. And then I sold one in the 90s. And I am now selling my last one” etc.. What a load of cobblers.
I always wondered what happened to the box Steve Jones nicked from the A&M warehouse before they destroyed the lot? Where did they go? Why no one ever sells this with the story like: “This one I got off Steve when we were down the pub one night. He threw it at me as I was passing by carrying 6 pints of the black stuff and mumbled something about frogs or pelicans, can’t remember… I saw him minutes later passed out in the bog with this bird under him.”

Buy Hank’s favourite record

steve280308, amongst few other cool things is selling Henry’s favourite record. You have about 6 hrs to jump on it. It is NOT the 1st pressing of this EP (that one would set you back some $120-$150) but still a very cool record to own and your pocket won’t even feel it as it is still at £0.99.

I pulled it out of the box and looked at the name “The Ruts”. Ooooh, I like that name… that’s smart. And I looked at the A-side: “In A Rut” by “The Ruts”. I was like “Ooh, they know me! Because I’m in a rut!”.

If you’re late for the auction above fear nothing because lucapaulpunk08 will be more than happy to accomodate you just as well

Inflammable material is planted in my head

1978 wasn’t a very good year for punks in Belfast. It was the time when a number of anti-punk gangs sprung up around the city. One of them called the Friendly Society, formed by members of a Loyalist paramilitary organization, stated that its specific aim was “to do as much damage to as many punks as possible”.
Another one, the Holywood Ulster Defence Association, threatened to attend a Rudi gig at the Strathearn Hotel in 1977 and kill the punks in attendance.

In the midst of all this, on St. Patricks Day in 1978, the Suspect Device single came out. Pioneering what later on became the Dischord Records well known standard they pressed 500 singles and hand-glued covers at home. Contrary to the popular opinion that ALL the covers were hand stamped, my mate Roland, who wrote a very cool book on SLF, says there was a stamped master which they later on colour photocopied.
My copy of the single (that is a confirmed OG looks like it could be a colour photocopy, even though I was always convinced it was an actual stamp). However, if you look at popsike, as our own Dave S. once pointed out, the placement of the stamp slightly differs on few different covers. This could suggest that
a) there were more than 1 masters used to make covers (if they really were colour copied)
or
b) it was heavily bootlegged (which is also highly likely)

Another interesting piece of information about this release is that some of the original hand glued sleeves have the band’s take away orders scribbled inside them. They wrote what they wanted to eat, someone fetched it and then they realised they didn’t have enough sleeves, so used those as well. I’d like to get one of those one day.
There are two copies on eBay right now and as far as I can tell they have been hanging in there for quite some time which is weird because both are very reasonably priced.

Here’s one with an under $200 BIN

and here’s another that works out at around $230 with free postage

Slightly annoying is the fact that both sellers are lazy knobs that didn’t bother to take actual photos of the records they’re selling and used exactly the same stock image they found somewhere on the internet. If I were buying this I would email for the actual photos of the record.

Since most of you are probably skint after Xmas here’s the much cheaper 2nd pressing with proper printed cover and yellow labels

or later repress with red labels (again with lazy stock photo)

or the final pressing on ROUGH TRADE records (with an actual photo of the item so bad that makes you wish it was a stock photo)

TPT – Boston vs Atlanta Oi

Man the streetpunk scene was HUGE in the late 90s. It pretty much peaked in 1998 right around the time of this record. The Anti Heros hadnt been broken up by Condemned 84 yet and Dropkick still had Mike singing and hadn’t put out an album yet. I always preferred the Anti Heros half of this with two of my favorite songs from them on it. I think the pressing info is a bit of a clusterfuck since its a double 7″ and colors got mixed up and what not, but necroscollector has here a test press out of 6. TKO Records knocked it out of the park with this one.
