Criminally Insane Perfector Protector

Recently someone sold a metal/hard rock collection to the record store I work at, and I copped some stuff and this has put me in a metal state of mood for a good while now. Since then a funny thing happened. I pulled out what I thought was my Dutch pressing of Slayer’s “Show No Mercy” (my favorite Slayer LP), the one that says “Bonus track: Agressive Protector” (sic) on the cover. Great! AP, one of my favorite songs! Now, I haven’t listened to my favorite Slayer LP for some time at this point (I know, I know), and I start playing it, and suddenly realize that the extra track is in fact not on the record, at all. I check and re-check, re-listen, re-count the tracks, it’s not there. How I did not notice this before I do not know, maybe because I was so used to the CD version I had since high school that didn’t have it? I snoop around and I guess Roadrunner is notorious for mix-ups like this, and what might have happened here is they used an American version of the LP and slapped the Dutch cover and labels on it. I should sue for false advertising!

So now I am faced with the fact that I don’t have “Agressive Perfector” on vinyl, at all. That makes me sad, so I am trying to remedy the situation. I could just buy another copy of “Show No Mercy”, one with the extra track that’s actually there, but AP also showed up on a few singles that I think would be more fun. The “fast” version of it is found here for example, the “Criminally Insane” single, this is for the 12″ version.

Aptly named ozzy1sabbath has one here starting @ $20:

Another thing I could do is buy the recent re-issue of “Haunting The Chapel” which has the original version of AP here from black-plastik:

Which, since I already have the original verison of this EP doesn’t seem like as cool of an idea. However if you have the same problem as me, I think this might help you out.

STOOGES – Funhouse

In recent years, The Stooges have hit a level of hipster fanboy-ism that rivals only the Clash (and probably the Velvet Underground) in terms of every douchebag and his brother claiming them as the greatest thing since sliced bread. But unlike the Clash, who have been officially ruined by their current fanbase, no matter how many hipster d-bags foam at the mouth just at the thought of the Stooges, the band and especially this record can never be tarnished. I saw Ron Asheton and some other old Detroit heads blow through all of this record at a show in NYC a few years before the real band got back together, and let me tell you, no one will ever shred a guitar like that again. RIP Ron.

Funny side story: The Stooges were in town this week, and I overheard a funny conversation at the local record emporium the other night. This 30-something Richie Cunningham looking “music fan” guy is buying a huge stack of soul 45s (another cool thing for current “music fans” to get into), and mentions he’s in town as a road tech for the Stooges. The old dude behind the counter chimes in, and it goes something like this:
Old dude: “Oh man, the Stooges… they were so killer when I saw them on the last tour”
Hipster guy: “Yeah we had a good time on that one”
Old dude: “Nah I meant the last REAL tour in ’74″
Hipster guy: :(
Me: LOL PWNED!

Boston Came Around One Night…

Push came to shove, Boston won.

Shutdown covered that song at a SOIA/TYF gig they opened up at the gym in Clinton MA, and that’s what my then roommate Dayton yelled into the mic when the time came. It was a good laugh, and this is another good auction from cristinad: the classic Schism press of the Judge NY Crew 7 inch. Like she says in the auction, there shouldn’t be anything else you need to ask.
