I don’t know if there’s really a lot of interest in a pair of Ramones UK presses, but what the hell. It’s Test Press Thursday, and I think kanadianinja90 would appreciate his auction getting the attention. Plus Howling At The Moon and Something To Believe In are two of my (admittedly many) favorite Ramones songs.

Rocket To Test Press Tuesday.
Seller 00torsion00 doesn’t have a lot of info about this Ramones “Rocket To Russia” test press, but that’s ok. And while I’m sure there were a bunch of different pressings of that record for there to be a test pressing of, so more info would probably be appreciated, it’s still ok. Because the Ramones are one of those bands that when you put them on, you can’t help but be happy. So posting a Ramones Test Press on Test Press Tuesday is not only ok with me, it also makes me happy. Ok?

who was the first punk band?
Earlier this week on the Thorp Records message board there was a thread asking “Who was the first punk band?”. Some people said that its the kind of question that there is no actual correct answer to, some people made a case for the band they feel is the ‘right’ answer and a few people made wise cracks, but overall these are the debut albums from the bands we came up with.
The 1965 full length debut from THE WHO! It was actually the Reverend Paul Bearer who made the best argument for the Who being the first ‘punk’ band. Here is what he said…
“They were the first band to claim a subculture…Yes, they “expanded”, or “grew”, later… But, they were the mugs that not only LIVED it, but CLAIMED IT…MOD. It’s about subculture…and, that includes FASHION and ATTITUDE. AND TELLING THE REST TO GO FUCK THEMSELVES… Yeah, it IS a young man’s game…As well it SHOULD BE. But, these “changing times”. whereas are necessary – Only destroy the innocence and glory of THE SEARCH… The search for other’s that feel like you do. The search for records that when you crank ‘em up REALLY FUCKING LOUD, make you feel like you can conquer the World. The search for a time .space, and feeling that’s not “exclusive”. but FAR FROM inviting. UNLESS,YOU GOT THE BALLS,YOU FUCKIN’ FUCKWAD!!! That’s my Two -cent’s worth…”

The 1969 debut from The Stooges. Its amazing to me that this record came out during the decade of the 60′s. I know it was 69 so it barely made it, but it just seems like it was So far a head of its time and its still relivent today and has actually been somewhere comercialized with the use of Stooges songs in comercials!

Another great band from Detroit and another great record that also came out in 1969, the MC5 “Kick Out The Jams” LP.

I’m not a huge fan of the New York Dolls, but I respect their place in the early days of punk rock. I also think its hysterical that they play ‘HOT HOT HOT’ by buster poindexter at most weddings and the people dancing have no idea about the meager beginings of David Johansen as a NY Doll!

I think that the 1976 debut from the Ramones is my favorite LP on this list, but its because when I got into punk the Ramones were one of the first bands I heard and one of the bands that inspired me to play an instrument. They have also been comercialized over the years. Not as bad as the Misfits, but you can go to the mall and buy a Joey Ramone action figure and a Ramones teddy bear.

Lots And Lots of Lots.
Seller lissareeder wants to help you build up your record collection quickly and efficiently, and as such she’s posted pretty much nothing but record lots:
You could build a whole collection off her auctions alone, be it a punk and hardcore collection or, as you will see soon enough, a metal collection…
Test to Ruin…
There seem to be a lot of test presses of some of the older punk records because they were pressed in a bunch of different countries but for me the be all end all of having a test press would be to have a test of the original first press.
I believe that in the case of friendsofsound’s Road to Ruin Sire Records test we have an original 1st OG test press.
Very fair opening bid in my opinion, but lets see where it goes from here!
Blitzkrieg Bop
Another heavy hitter from mikeslps…
Here’s a UK press of Blitzkrieg Bop — arguably the most collectible and consistently expensive Ramones record, and in general one of the coolest records ever made. Strangely, this record never came with a sleeve in the USA, but sleeves were issued in the UK, France and Japan.
Have you heard?
THE BIRD IS THE WORD! Surfin Bird by the Trashmen. What a simple but great song. The original version is good, but it was the Ramones version that first grabbed me. How can anyone forget how crazy Joey sounds when doing the ‘a bah bah bah bah bah bah bah’ part!
Next I encountered the song again in the movie ‘Back to the Beach’ which was always advertised as a Pee Wee Herman movie, but hes barely in it. Maybe its just because he sings Sufrin Bird and its awesome. Great movie and once again a great song!
Then I think it was last year that they did a reoccuring joke about the song on Family Guy. I love that show anyway, but it was hysterical to hear Peter sing it over and over and over and over in classic Family Guy overkill fashion. Peter singing Surfin Bird is actually the ring on my cell phone!
runarounddisks has a picture sleeve 45 of the Pee Wee Herman version from Back to the Beach that you should buy!
Hey.. Ho… Two More!
Here are a couple of wierd Ramones records… well one Ramones record at least!
First up is a live bootleg Ramones LP called ‘Live at the Roxy 1976′. The seller says he bought the LP and all its contents at a 2nd hand store in Seattle about 10 years ago and hes selling it as he got it so it also comes with a ticket to a Ramones show in Seattle February 3rd 1978 and a flyer for a Ramones show January 5th 1979 also in Seattle. The best part of the whole package is that the back of the flyer is signed by Marky, Joey, Johnny & Dee Dee! Four nice signatures that look legit and would be really nice framed up with an LP sleeve from your favorite Ramones record!

This is the really weird one. Its an LP ‘Frat House Party’ by The Mayfair All-Star Orchestra. Unless I’m missing something the record has nothing to do with The Ramones, but for some reason the front cover is signed ‘To Bud’ by Joey, Johnny, Marky & Dee Dee Ramone. If anyone has any insight into this one let me know!

Do you remember Rock & Roll Radio?
I dont know that much about Ramones vinyl other than I love listening to it, but sinbar has what could be an actual Ramones ‘End of the Century’ test pressing and not just a bootleg or import version.
Its got Capital Records lables so even if its a later pess that they did another test press I still think its cooler than an import test press. sinbar also has some Misfits vinyl and some other cool stuff (some others will be posted here) so check them out!
All RAMONES all the time
IMO, there is nothing cooler in the record collecting world than a good 45 picture sleeve single. I don’t give a shit if I have the songs on LP already, if I come across a good looking 7″ single, I’ll always buy it. 45′s sound better/louder, and you can DJ with them. 45′s ARE THE COOLEST, end of story.
Here’s a great trio that proves my point to a T. All three records have great songs on them, but look how fucking COOL they look. “Hi, we all dress the same and our photos always look the same, but we are 100 times cooler and tougher than you will ever be, because we are the Ramones.” If only there was a single for Judy Is A Punk, I would probably stop buying records.
ps, everyone stay away from the German Rockaway Beach single, I really need that one.
HEY HO! LETS BUY!
When I went out the morning or Record Store Day this year there 3 things on my ‘must find’ list. The Sick of it All clear 7″, the Beastie Boys mystery 12″ and Ramones Mania on green & blue split vinyl.
I was lucky enough to get all three thanks to my girlfriend helping me by going to one of the stores while I headed out to 3 others. I’ surprised that of the 3 records I wanted this is the one that people are trying to sell for the most money. I guess it is the first Ramones release (re-issue) in awhile and its limited to 1000 on a cool color vinyl, but I’m still surprised and even more psyched to have one! I’m also glad that I got to see the Ramones 3 (The Living Room, Rocky Point Park & Great Woods) times before they broke up!
awesomebutton has a ton of pins and other stuff for sale in addition to some other cool vinyl.
ready to start your Ramones tribute band?
Johnny Ramone is probably my favorite ‘punk’ guitar player of all time. I always wanted to play bass (and did) becuse I didnt think I was good enough to play guitar. Then I saw the Ramones and realized if I could play 3 chords at a decent speed I was good enough to play guitar! It kind of sucks that based on intereviews and documentary footage it seems like he was kind of an asshole.
Anyway, heres a guitar that I wish I could have… but would rather have in white even though the blue is much rarer.
Mosrite MKII Johnny Ramone Forever Fillmore, serial # JM005

Its… My… Game!
The Hanson Brothers are the alter egos of Rob & John Wright from No Means No. The band started as a fun side project where No Means No would play sets of Ramones covers and then morphed into them writing their own ‘Ramones songs’. This is their 3rd studio album and my personal favorite. Their other LP covers parodied The Ramones ‘Road to Ruin’, DOA ‘The Prisioner’ and The Ramones ‘Its Alive’ but this ‘My War’ parody is my favorite.
Definitly worth a listen and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it on vinyl before.
Posters, posters, posters!
The bass player from Heresy has some interesting posters for sale at the moment. Check out these babies…
