THE BIRD IS THE WORD! Surfin Bird by the Trashmen. What a simple but great song. The original version is good, but it was the Ramones version that first grabbed me. How can anyone forget how crazy Joey sounds when doing the ‘a bah bah bah bah bah bah bah’ part!

Next I encountered the song again in the movie ‘Back to the Beach’ which was always advertised as a Pee Wee Herman movie, but hes barely in it. Maybe its just because he sings Sufrin Bird and its awesome. Great movie and once again a great song!

Then I think it was last year that they did a reoccuring joke about the song on Family Guy. I love that show anyway, but it was hysterical to hear Peter sing it over and over and over and over in classic Family Guy overkill fashion. Peter singing Surfin Bird is actually the ring on my cell phone!

Hey.. Ho… Two More!

Here are a couple of wierd Ramones records… well one Ramones record at least!

First up is a live bootleg Ramones LP called ‘Live at the Roxy 1976′. The seller says he bought the LP and all its contents at a 2nd hand store in Seattle about 10 years ago and hes selling it as he got it so it also comes with a ticket to a Ramones show in Seattle February 3rd 1978 and a flyer for a Ramones show January 5th 1979 also in Seattle. The best part of the whole package is that the back of the flyer is signed by Marky, Joey, Johnny & Dee Dee! Four nice signatures that look legit and would be really nice framed up with an LP sleeve from your favorite Ramones record!

This is the really weird one. Its an LP ‘Frat House Party’ by The Mayfair All-Star Orchestra. Unless I’m missing something the record has nothing to do with The Ramones, but for some reason the front cover is signed ‘To Bud’ by Joey, Johnny, Marky & Dee Dee Ramone. If anyone has any insight into this one let me know!

Do you remember Rock & Roll Radio?

I dont know that much about Ramones vinyl other than I love listening to it, but sinbar has what could be an actual Ramones ‘End of the Century’ test pressing and not just a bootleg or import version.

Its got Capital Records lables so even if its a later pess that they did another test press I still think its cooler than an import test press. sinbar also has some Misfits vinyl and some other cool stuff (some others will be posted here) so check them out!

All RAMONES all the time

IMO, there is nothing cooler in the record collecting world than a good 45 picture sleeve single. I don’t give a shit if I have the songs on LP already, if I come across a good looking 7″ single, I’ll always buy it. 45′s sound better/louder, and you can DJ with them. 45′s ARE THE COOLEST, end of story.

Here’s a great trio that proves my point to a T. All three records have great songs on them, but look how fucking COOL they look. “Hi, we all dress the same and our photos always look the same, but we are 100 times cooler and tougher than you will ever be, because we are the Ramones.” If only there was a single for Judy Is A Punk, I would probably stop buying records.

ps, everyone stay away from the German Rockaway Beach single, I really need that one.

HEY HO! LETS BUY!

When I went out the morning or Record Store Day this year there 3 things on my ‘must find’ list. The Sick of it All clear 7″, the Beastie Boys mystery 12″ and Ramones Mania on green & blue split vinyl.

I was lucky enough to get all three thanks to my girlfriend helping me by going to one of the stores while I headed out to 3 others. I’ surprised that of the 3 records I wanted this is the one that people are trying to sell for the most money. I guess it is the first Ramones release (re-issue) in awhile and its limited to 1000 on a cool color vinyl, but I’m still surprised and even more psyched to have one! I’m also glad that I got to see the Ramones 3 (The Living Room, Rocky Point Park & Great Woods) times before they broke up!

ready to start your Ramones tribute band?

Johnny Ramone is probably my favorite ‘punk’ guitar player of all time. I always wanted to play bass (and did) becuse I didnt think I was good enough to play guitar. Then I saw the Ramones and realized if I could play 3 chords at a decent speed I was good enough to play guitar! It kind of sucks that based on intereviews and documentary footage it seems like he was kind of an asshole.

Anyway, heres a guitar that I wish I could have… but would rather have in white even though the blue is much rarer.

Its… My… Game!

The Hanson Brothers are the alter egos of Rob & John Wright from No Means No. The band started as a fun side project where No Means No would play sets of Ramones covers and then morphed into them writing their own ‘Ramones songs’. This is their 3rd studio album and my personal favorite. Their other LP covers parodied The Ramones ‘Road to Ruin’, DOA ‘The Prisioner’ and The Ramones ‘Its Alive’ but this ‘My War’ parody is my favorite.

Definitly worth a listen and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it on vinyl before.
