Ma, What Are They Givin’ Me?

The Beastie Boys were one of the first bands I got into, and were the band that got me into hardcore. I still like all their classic and older stuff, even though I don’t follow their new stuff too closely.

My first Beastie Boys album was “Ill Communication”, (I got it free from BMG Music, remember that shit?) I think that was a great era for the band, I kind of view “Check Your Head” and “Ill Communication” in one Beastie-era, you can call it the first half of the 1990′s I guess as well.

Anyway that’s my favorite era and that’s probably because that was when I got into them. “Ill Communication” had tons of hits on it, and “Sure Shot” was one of them, along with “Get It Together” and “Root Down” it was one of the best hip-hop songs on that LP. I was also really into “Allright Hear This” but I don’t think it ever came out as a single.  From the songs to the plethora of formats, to the graphic design, this single captures the 1990′s/Ill Communication era really well. There were a few versions of it, there is a burgundy vinyl 7″ that I have, but this is a 10″ version I have never seen before. I actually happen to like 10″s so I think this is cool. If this is not 1990′s enough for you, this features “Mullet Head”, the hardcore song that’s in the classic 1990′s movie (yeah) “Clueless”. Stop cringing, I love that fuckin’ movie. Alicia circa 1995? My my my. It’s a 90′s orgy in here. This song was also included on the Japanese version of the “Ill Communication” CD.

The 10″ version also has a different tracklist than the 7″ and CD versions, (the 12″ has all the songs on the 10″ plus more) it has 2 more songs than the 7″ version (logical), and those 2 songs are different than the extra songs on the CD version. Check out Beastie Mania for all sorts of meticulous info and then some.

This was a British release, so
allgoodmusic2011 is in England.

jump up, jump up & get down!

I was a fan of House of Pain back in the day and saw them play a few times. I saw them at E.M. Lowes in Worcester and there was a mixture of hardcore kids & rap fans that almost turned into a brawl! I saw them again at The Strand in Providence with Biohazard, Korn & Gravediggaz. I think that Danny Boy broke his ankle on stage at that show. The last time I saw them was at the Rocky Point Palladium in Warwick with Cypress Hill, Da Youngstas, Da Hooligans & Funkdoobiest. None of those shows were as good as seeing Everlast in a small Boston club before his first solo record came out. That was a great show.

Heres a 7″ with 2 different remixes of ‘Shamrocks and Shenanigans’ pressed on green vinyl and put out by SubPop

and the 2nd auction is a 12″ of my favorite House of Pain song ‘Legend’. I dont think it was ever on an LP actually. Its cheesy, but I love the chorus… a hero aint nothin’ but a sandwich
and a legend aint nothin’ but a car. So go blow out your brains like Kurt Cobain and maybe one day you’ll be a star!

Dee Dee… He Left Home…

This is a 12″ of the song ‘Funky Man’ from the great white hope… the original white rapper… DEE DEE KING, better known as Dee Dee Ramone.

In the mid 80′s after leaving the Ramones Dee Dee decided to become a rapper and this is his debut 12″ on Rock Hotel Records from 1987.

I have the ‘Standing in the Spotlight’ cassette somewhere and I used to listen to it a lot. Its good for a laugh and some of the songs are catchy. Who can forget ‘Poor Little Rich Girl’ & ‘Mashed Potato Time’.

Anyway, Dee Dee King stuff usually sells for a decent price. This one is still really low so maybe someone can scoop it cheap!
