For a band that had such a stigma (get it???) for being sketchy in the mid 80′s, Agnostic Front’s album covers sure didnt do anything to help squash the rumors of being Nazi’s. Cause For Alarm had that sweet Taggart painting of people hanging on meathooks with a Nazi officer that Combat rejected in favor of even the more awesome painting we are all familiar with (which was also censored).
And before any of that there was Victim In Pain with its photo of last jew in Vinnitsa (its famous, look it up). Combat reissued it with the plain black cover later. The lesson here? Censorship sucks and so does Combat Core.
fate_just_missed has a copy of the first pressing of Victim In Pain for sale right now. You can distinguish the first Ratcage pressing from the second by the second pressing having the “Important” logo on the back next to Ratcage. Id like to see a better picture of the cover here to see what kind of shape its in, but for the current price its not a bad deal.

NYHC 2nd stringers
My buddy Justin out in ‘Frisco has some cool shit up for sale as he sells through another friend’s collection, lots of nice hardcore records from around the world… check society_suckers for the goods.
Here’s Crucial Truth’s debut ep, Darkened Days, which was Ratcage Records #1. This band has sort of fallen to the wayside in the realm of early NYHC, overshadowed by the big dogs. I like this record a lot, as it predates the more standardized NYHC sound, throwing in some cool noisy guitar parts and a couple of darker, TSOL/Agent Orange sounding tunes. This would be a cool candidate for a reissue if they could dig up extra material, which I know is out there.
And one more early NYHC ep… the Misguided’s self released Bringing It Down 7″, being sold by hardcore-dinosaur aka Dave from Adrenalin OD (who always sells cool shit, check him out). Anyways, like Crucial Truth, this one sort of predates the typical NYHC sound, going for a more English inspired sound with some heavy political vibes. I always wondered if the title of the Judge LP was a happy coincidence or a direct lift, anyone know?
Why am I the one to blame…
Holy grail.
I know nothing more sacred than this record. I love this record. And here’s an original. Rat Cage Records. I wanted to say that despite lots of griping about the B9 reissues, I couldn’t think of a better label or approach to re-releasing the material. Do I think the original cover is awesome, for a record that came out in 1984? Yes. Do I know why in 2010 it feels a lot more “inappropriate” and a lot less “crazy” to use the original cover for the reissue? Yes. This is a record. Music. Not a political statement. So to preserve the music, I praise Chris and B9, as well as doing an archivist proud by actually including the orig art as well. Cannot wait for the Underdog discography.
Until then… what about this. Price is right people.
