RSD: Good Morning, Flippers

First off, happy Record Store Day! It’s a good one, for sure. Lots of great Rev releases, Rival Schools, Sonic Youth, … some gems. And of course, happy Flipping Day! It’s already begun. The east coast is barely 4 hours into RSD, but it’s already begun. You can thank xbestoneyetx and zork1212 for the first ups today (first EST ups, there’s already a few up in the UK).

Pale yellow or dark yellow? I’m guessing dark yellow. The pale is pretty pale. Update: Someone hit that $30 BIN, grab this one instead.

Weird. I haven’t found the Elliot EP yet. Hmmm.

The Early Bird Gets The Burn.

Seller skullsterac is making a pretty ballsy run for some money by selling all 4 of the Revelation Records’ Record Store Day pressings a week early…

A 75 buck start that someone has already jumped on? Somebody must be seriously busy next week. I’m not busy though, and by hook or by crook I’ll be getting at least a copy of the Burn ep on yellow that day. Hopefully without paying 75 bucks…

Miscellaneous Tre.

Just some mid-day miscellany from Mister Milloinaire himself, aka Tre:

Good call making the Terror connection clear via title, description, and year of Vogel.

Drop dead. ’nuff said.

Methinks SOMEONE has been seeing how well all the SOIA record release versions we’ve had up have been doing… or he just needs to raise money for a sweet lil’ dog who just had surgery.

And finally, we close with some wisdom from the seller himself, regarding this Rorschach/Neanderthal split:

There’s a decapitated head on the cover.

Yes. Yes, there is.

SOIA Record Store Day Press.

Like I said a couple hours ago, seller yo_baby_sup has a ton of records up, and we’re gonna showcase several of em this week, along with some more glorious sales from our bestest best pal Tre. But we’re gonna take things slow and space things out so that we don’t blow our wad too early. We want this to be an actual full week of posting, unlike last week when I got sick and flat lined on posting before the week was even half over. So to start, here’s the Record Store Day version of the Sick Of It All ep on Revelation. This one is one of the ones with the band name in black on the cover that were limited to 83, making it the second rarest version of the RSD editions.

Jersey Pride

I’m a big fan of ‘Record Store Day’ and I’m quite the sucker for a ‘limited edition’ of any kind, but even more so when it comes to records! Last year on RSD I went to 4 different stores and had my girlfriend go to one store for me so I could get all the records I convinced myself I needed. Well in my haze of record buying I ended up with a copy of this same Bouncing Souls picture disc 7″ that jwilson19 is selling.

I think I saw that it was hand numbered and limited to 500 and figured ‘I need to buy that’. Well, many months later I have never listened to it and the only reason I posted this one is because I’m hoping it sells and then maybe I’ll sell mine!

Rev COllection – Sick Of It All – RSD

When this came out I was bummed I missed out on the ordering window from Rev due to time difference and then being super stoked when I logged back in a few hours later for shits and giggles to see it back in stock due to cancelling of orders of people who ordered more than one(greedy jerks). Although it wasnt the most rare version I got the one I wanted the most(though I would have been happy with any copy) which was the gilman street cover. it just looks cooler :)
I dont really see a need to track down all the different cover variations of this one.

500 on clear

REV SOIA RSD 7″

Record store day has come and gone for 2010, but the records live on!
The Revelation re-press of the first SOIA 7″ was one of my biggest ‘wants’ on record store day and I was lucky enough to get one. If you didnt maybe you’re interested in this one which has the red logo on the sleeve.

The seller says that its 1 of only 29, but even with all the variations of it, I’m not sure thats correct.

Mystery 12″

bigwave2007 isnt selling to much stuff, but he does have this Beastie Boys Mystery 12″ which was a 2010 Record Store Day exclusive. I was able to get one that morning at Time Capsule Comics & Records in Seekonk, MA and I was psyched. Before the store had opened I saw some on eBay sold for over $100. I know those prices were total speculation and would never last, but I’m still surprised that it has fallen this low! I guess they either pressed way more than people originally thought or there are not as many Beastie Boys fans as theire used to be. Even with the shipping this record is still below retail!

HEY HO! LETS BUY!

When I went out the morning or Record Store Day this year there 3 things on my ‘must find’ list. The Sick of it All clear 7″, the Beastie Boys mystery 12″ and Ramones Mania on green & blue split vinyl.

I was lucky enough to get all three thanks to my girlfriend helping me by going to one of the stores while I headed out to 3 others. I’ surprised that of the 3 records I wanted this is the one that people are trying to sell for the most money. I guess it is the first Ramones release (re-issue) in awhile and its limited to 1000 on a cool color vinyl, but I’m still surprised and even more psyched to have one! I’m also glad that I got to see the Ramones 3 (The Living Room, Rocky Point Park & Great Woods) times before they broke up!

awesomebutton has a ton of pins and other stuff for sale in addition to some other cool vinyl.

Record Store Appreciation

Record Store Day has come and gone already this year, but it’s never to late to appreciate your local shop. However I had a sad record shopping day yesterday where I drove about an hour to hit this store, did a sweep… and found nothing of interest. Not like that’s a new story by any stretch, but it just was an especially big bummer. But this past record store day, it was not a bummer. It was bonanza (though obviously prearranged bonanza so nothing to really write home about) but my favorite record purchased was the Fucked Up “daytrotter” single with one of the alternate covers of some of their (read: singer Damian’s) favorite record stores from all over the place.

I managed to make it out to Waterloo Records in Austin, TX for this event, one of the ten or so stores featured, but ended up getting a disc exchange cover? Weird, but whatever. Big Fucked Up fan, so to get one was cool enough for me – not absolutely sure how many of each cover there were, but if memory serves each cover was limited to 100. Still… the price tag on this one seems high. But maybe your pockets are a little deeper than mine?

I’m a B-Boy, standin in my B-Boy stance!

rclark18 must have made the rounds on Record Store Day and now he’s trying to pay for his gas by reselling the Beastie Boys – Mystery white label 12″.

I have one and will admit that like most other people I didnt open it and probably never will. I did a little digging and found out what exactly is on it…

“One side is mostly turntable tricks and the other side is an original jam based on samples of “Da Funk” by Daft Punk. Although uncredited it is probably safe to assume that the turntable tricks side is care of Mixmaster Mike.”

SOIA RSD 7″

Apparently there are 4 different versions of the Sick of it All rerelease 7″ from Record Store Day this year.

293 old fold-over covers with band name in red and old insert
150 new glued, non-glossy covers and 1997 insert
83 old fold-over covers with band name in black and old insert
29 old glued, high-gloss covers and old insert

The total pressing was 500 copies and the seller has the black logo sleeve which is limited to only 83. Either way I think that $100 is way high for this record, but anyone that had a complete SOIA collection before Record Store Day might be willing to pay for it!

Adventures in Record Collecting

I just started a blog a few months ago that has been mostly my childhood stories so far. Topics so far have included the first time I saw Kiss, being a late 80′s ‘headbanger’, playing little league baseball, best friends that come & go and getting beat up in juinor high school.

I just posted a new one that is not a childhood story, but a reaccount of how I spent my Saturday this past week trying to track down all the Record Store Day gems that I hoped to find.

It includes all the stops I made, the records I found, sightings of 1st press Minor Threat & Underdog 7″s and watching a kid open a sealed Wishing Well Records copy of ‘Break Down The Walls’ to see if it was on red, blue or black vinyl.

You can check out the Record Store Day blog as well as all the past entries here…
