SUPERBOWL SUNDAY: Thou Shalt Not Kill (again?)

As is known to happen, I was about to post to an auction that someone else posted. So if you are interested in the original Antidote 7″, Check out Doug’s good post here.

But one of the things that I was going to touch on is that there are so many versions of this record. If you aren’t a committed collector, or maybe just aren’t THAT big of an antidote fan. Maybe you would prefer a repress of the original 7″, or there are even 12″ versions of the 7″.

Just for fun, I tried to find Mental covering Back to Back since it was at least on this record, but instead I found this gem, which isn’t on this record, but yeah. Featuring Scace bass lines and straightedge Greg.

In the peaceful snow…

I lived in Boston for a long time, and I never stepped foot inside the Man Ray. Until April of 2005 that is, when I went and saw Death in June, a band that I had only listened to a few times. It’s been seven years since then and DIJ haven’t played another show in the USA, so I’d consider it a good choice to have gone. Also because DIJ has become one of my favorite artists and listen to them all the time.

Also in attendance that night were members of The Hope Conspiracy, Downpour, and it’s possible that Boyd Rice was there as well.

Their newest record Peaceful Snow was a pleasant surprise, considering it didn’t feature their signature 12-string guitar. This 7″ record is a single off the LP on limited edition red vinyl.

7 Seconds New Wind on Red

I can’t deny it, I’m not really a big 7 Seconds fan. Tried to get into em a couple of time but just didn’t really ever get hooked. But I’m pretty sure someone out there is gonna be interested in this one. the1234gorecordsstore is selling a nice looking copy of the ‘New Wind’ LP on red vinyl. Flex says that there were circa 25,000 copies pressed, with only 200 on red. That’s less than one in a hundred. Only a few hours left and this one is only on $15.50. I didn’t find one of these on popsike so no idea if this will go high or if someone is gonna get a bargain.

Where The Red Things Are

straightray continues to offload his collection this week, and this one has only 5 hours or so left and it sitting pretty at only $20… although the reserve has not been met. This is the red vinyl pressing of the ‘New York Hardcore – Where The Wild Things Are’ compilation. This was put out by Blackout Records circa 1989, and is at least the second or third best NY hardcore comp made. Some great bands and great jams on this. You get Outburst, Raw Deal, Sheer Terror, Norman Bates And the Showerheads, and a cheeky Gorilla Biscuits song tucked on the end. I’ve never actually seen a red vinyl copy in real life, but I’ve heard from plenty of people that the red ones are all really thin vinyl and most were warped. Not sure if this is true or not, but this copy looks to be in pretty good shape to me, and I’d be all over this thing if I didn’t have bigger fish to fry this month.

Integrity 1st 7″ on Red

baosgarden brings one of the most saught after Integrity records there are, the ‘In Contrast Of Sin’ 7″ on Victory Records on red vinyl. Depending on who you believe, there are either only 100 or 200 of these out there. I personally would lean more toward 100 seeing as it does not pop up that often, and a lot of big collectors I have known over the years either didn’t have one or couldn’t get one. It’s a tough find and can go for a tidy sum. This one is sitting at $51 with slightly less than 24 hours to go, although the reserve has not been met. Who knows what the reserve might be or how much this could fetch, but you can bet someone has their eye on this bigtime.

Sick Of It All – Red 7″ (with some black in it)

A total Rev classic being offered here by straightray. There were lots of these, although somehow I still don’t own one in a regular sleeve. Sometimes you can get one of these for a decent price, unlike some other Rev color pressings. Perhaps because there are hundreds of these things out there, or maybe because SOIA are still going so they don’t have quite the same legendary status as Warzone or Chain? I don’t know, I’m only speculating. Anyway, this copy has a little bit of black in it too, which may or may not make it more desireable.

I’m still holding a spare one of these that comes in the rarely seen photocopied sleeve, which has some black specks all over it. You can see some pics on my blog. If you want to trade for it then get in touch.

Final Pressing insanity? We’ll see…

Only 4 hours left on these two ‘final pressings’ that Rev released circa 2001. I remember that when these things came out it seemed vinyl really was on it’s last legs. I guess Rev never figured that ten years later they could easily press hundreds more of these things to a new market. And since this year saw a post final press of the Youth Of Today 7″, I could imagine further pressings of both of these things could follow at some point. And if it happens, and history is anything to go by, then no doubt everyone will be trying to buy up ten copies so that in ten year’s time they can punt them on ebay for $300 each.

everythingmust321go looks set to do well from their current batch of auctions. Will be interesting to see how much these two go for given recent insane prices on these particular pressings:

The Red Truth

After seeing this red vinyl Half Off LP that infernopunx is selling, I thought I would check to see what Flex discography says about it. I’ve heard over the years that there were only 100 on red, so just thought I would check to see what Flex said. The result I found kinda funny…

Approx. 10.000 made altogether. #1 – Black vinyl, 150 on red vinyl. + poster insert. #2 – Black vinyl, blue lettering on cover. + lyric sheet. A few copies were mispressed with the PHC LP tracks, although cover & labels say Half Off. Pre-Haywire. Hardcore in the straight edge/NYHC vein; solid powerful stuff, but too many songs are clichéd and ultimately kind of boring. This album had an inexplicable popularity in the late 80s, maybe it hit a nerve back then. Not a bad record, but pretty uninventive.

This was released by New Beginning Records, probably best known for putting out the Crippled Youth and Underdog 7″s. I also THINK that the band Rain On The Parade took their name from a song on this album, but I don’t know that for sure, I’m just speculating.

Integrity’s 1st, 2nd or 3rd best record on red

There isn’t much new or exciting I can say about this one. Depending on your opinion, this is going to be 1st, 2nd or 3rd in your Integrity top 3 list. If you still need a red vinyl copy, this copy being sold by steveggs looks like a good one to grab, as it also includes the little booklet of spelling mistakes that only the first copies came with, as well as a large fold out poster.

Someone Is Seeing Black .. Errr Red

Earlier this week, we saw a Gorilla Biscuits Start Today final press LP sell for $350. Why? No fucking idea. It’s insane. It actually outsold many of the first press, purple vinyl LPs that have sold recently. That’s crazy. You know what happens next. Someone sees it sell for a lot of moolah, and dollar signs start flashing before their eyes. That’s what happened with chimpanzeeacme. Someone stop the madness on these Gorilla Biscuits LPs. I thought it was crazy when I sold mine for $50. Yikes.

Upset the System vs. Step Forward Vol. 234932

I don’t want to tap out adversewind‘s listings too fast, but he’s got a lot of rippers up this week so eff it.

Morgado and I like to joke on here as to which Mob 7″ is better — I say Upset The System and he says Step Forward — but I guess you really can’t go wrong with either record. Classic NYHC in its infancy… Upset The System has to be what, the second or third NYHC record ever?

Super nice looking copies here, I know the seller is VERY anal about condition. Ultimate keeper copies for sure.

When it comes to Absolution, you can’t go wrong with black vinyl or red vinyl. Seriously. Grab one of these from rock4light or body_piercer. Like I said, you can’t go wrong either way.

Color vinylz

Seller rock4light has some great records up this week, including these tasty treats…

This record to me is top 5 of the 90s, sometimes it’s my #1 favorite but sometimes I’ll rank Infest or No Comment ahead of them depending on the weather. Whatever, it’s a killer fuckin’ record everyone should own. And if you’re gonna own it, you need to own the original red vinyl version — only 200 made and most were given out to friends of the band and label, so there aren’t a ton out there “in the wild”. I’m always surprised this doesn’t command the price of other similar rarities (Neanderthal 7″ on purple, Infest 7″s on color, etc) given its rarity.

Everyone always complains about this record and it’s muddy recording, which I can’t really argue with, but I’ll be damned these songs are awesome on their own. Seek out some live recordings from ’88 (there are plenty floating around online) and see for yourself. Also, as much as I hate old reformed bands re-recording their material, I’m pretty psyched Absolution is taking a new stab at these songs. Should be great if the reunion shows are any indication.

One more… and one of my favorite bands of all time. IMO this 7″ is criminally underrated, as everyone seems to only care about the LPs. Hopefully someone will score this on the cheap, as it’s complete with the comic book (and ripping tunes).
