In Cold Blood – Hell On Earth LP – White Vinyl

A year after the last Melnick bros. last proper release through Integrity, a full length release by In Cold Blood surfaced through on Victory Records in 1998. Not too far of a stretch from the Melnick bros. Integrity material they met up with a few others including, Blaze from OLC and frontman Jason Popson to release a great LP’s worth of material. Jason Popson is better known as the singer of Mushroomhead but this material, needless to say is quite a bit different than his nu-metal outfit. There was definitely something in the water in Cleveland, because alongside Ringworm, Integrity and OLC, there were some pretty great heavy material coming out of their neck of the woods, and that’s not too mention any of the punkier stuff. earwax666hotmail has got the In Cold Blood – Hell On Earth LP on White Vinyl up for auction. If I just hadn’t picked up some more expensive records recently, this would be on my watch list and I would be trying to win it.

Voice Of Thousands comp LP

One more comp for this evening… the Voice Of Thousands on Conversion Records. Again on the Cleveland tip, this has good tracks from Integrity, Face Value and Force Of Habit. The rest is stuff I really don’t care much for these days (so much 90′s stuff has NOT aged well), though the Refuse song is cool youthful hardcore. They were Seattle’s answer to Crippled Youth and went on to form Undertow.

The highlight of this comp for me though is the Force Of Habit track, which features a pre-Ringworm Human Furnace and Frank 3-Gun. This is their only studio recorded track, and according to Frank they only ever played a couple of backyard party type shows (which I believe at least one of exists on video). The dark metal stylings of the ‘Worm hadn’t set in yet, and this one’s a good straightforward hardcore track in the early Integrity vein. If they had recorded a full demo or a record, I think it would probably sound a lot like For Those Who Fear Tomorrow.

Currently at a measly $2! Do yourself a favor and bid, and throw some money my friend Lui B‘s way.

RINGWORM – The Promise LP

Metal and hardcore—two great tastes that sometimes taste great together, but usually not. While Ringworm have gone on to much more metallic leanings since this record came out, this LP still remains one of the best ever examples of hardcore music based around metal riffs. Though it’s not quite as tight as the demo, I still get psyched every time I put this on and hear “There is no God” into that little opening guitar slide. I heard these guys were pretty hammed when they recorded this, which would explain why it’s a little “loose,” but at the same time it adds to the charm. And just for good measure, they decided to add a spot-on Angry Samoans cover, which probably left a lot of people scratching their heads. There’s just something in the water in Cleveland that consistently produces great, but fucked up, punk and hardcore bands.

This is one of those backwards pressing jobs where the color vinyl is actually the more common version. I’ve only ever seen it on black a handful of times, and when I asked a couple of the band members about it, they had never even heard of black copies existing aside from test pressings. I always assumed they pressed some black copies to fill overrun jackets…anyone know for sure?
