I left seller cody0341′s auctions alone for the longest time, because up until recently he had some super sketchy records up incognito (starts with Skrew, ends with driver, and all appear to have been pulled), and I know a lot of our readers don’t want to see that sort of thing up here. But I also have had some rabid NYHC completists ask me to keep my eyes open for any Youth Defense League, and this seller has a ton of it. Including a test press. And since I personally rank YDL pretty low on the sketchy list (especially in comparison to a band like Skrewdriver), I’m posting it up for Test Press Tuesday, but with full disclosure: this dude had some bonefide WP stuff up for awhile, so you might not want to send any money his way.

How’d I Know?
I had a feeling when I saw this YDL test press being sold by damfool, that if I went and took a look at his other auctions I’d find at least one super sketchy record (or another, if you count YDL, I know many people have varying mileage on that)…
…and low and behold, he did not disappoint me:
Doesn’t eBay usually pull Skrewdriver auctions? Curious to see how long this stays up for…
Anyways, back on point: it IS Test Press Tuesday, and while we’re speaking of YDL tests, there are still some hours left on monstersintheattic’s lot of YDL records, which includes 4 tests presses:
One Underdog, Hold The Slav.
Given the recent heavy early activity on the Underdog seven inches that have been up in the past month, it seems odd to find one that’s been up for a couple days that’s still unbid upon. If I had to guess on a reason for that, I’d wager that it’s because seller patrick166 is Tee Till Death’s favorite sketchy seller, the man once known as nerveagent, Slavko.
His inability to decide on whether this is first or second press (it’s first, second press was the blue vinyl) probably isn’t helping him either. As always, when it comes to Slavko, buyer beware; much as I want this record, I’m not prepared to risk it, but if you’re a taker, go nuts.
VILE – Solution LP original
There are lots of urban legends surrounding this band and this release, so I will just say that this record… 1. is rare (300-500 rumored to be made, many rumored to have been destroyed), and 2. has a lot of naughty words on it.
In all of my years living in Boston and collecting records (going on 16 of the former and 20+ of the latter), I have seen this record for sale in a store ONCE** and have heard of maybe 3-4 copies turning up “in the wild”. However, the band members started selling off deadstock copies a few years back, so there are a decent amount in circulation, and it’s been reissued by the bing bongs over at Parts Unknown.
But what about the tunes? Not so typical “Boston” sounding, at times it almost reminds me of a snottier version of the Cause For Alarm ep.
**Purchased by my friend Justin for $50 at Record Hog in Somerville, MA, then sold to me a couple months later for $50, which I then traded to someone in Detroit for a Fix Jan’s Rooms 7″ and a Deep Wound 7″. Years later I traded a pair of sneakers for a sealed copy. I win x2.
Not an April Fools Joke
Doesn’t this auction make you think of buying speakers out of the back of a van?
Or a VCR in a back alley?
It just seems weird to me.
Someone find out if EVR or Bane is missing a box of cds …
Ps. I LOVE this cd. The last song features Aaron’s friend from Worcester doing his noise thing. I once saw him live “in concert” at the Space in Worcester. During their set, the Tuba player was almost set on fire by the sheet metal grinder. Good times.
